just sayin' deej has a better case than you, your request just comes off as either a joke or being butthurt

sarahell, Tuesday, 21 July 2015 22:55 (ten years ago)

sarahell, it almost seems like you really think our deej is anticon producer deej, tell me you're just being very dry.

someone asked about good vice videos above (whiney?):

www.vice.com/video/the-devil-tried-to-divide-us-full-length - about the war in CAR
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYqrflGpTRE - congo
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FDSdg09df8 - japanese suicide forest
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Nzm2CidMpM - nk/sk + kashmir borders
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRuSS0iiFyo - liberia warlords
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpIyaIHsJbc - the ongoing mexican / mormon war (these guys are related to mitt romney!)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUjHb4C7b94 - isis

these are all excellent. there are others that i couldn't find online clips of but are also great like the ep of the HBO show about transexuality in Iran

Mordy, Tuesday, 21 July 2015 22:57 (ten years ago)

I would say it's 25% serious, 25% joke, 25% butthurt and 25% boredom

But its a double standard so why not just do it?

lil dork (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 21 July 2015 22:57 (ten years ago)

saw another one recently about the illegal rhino horn market

as much as i like to zing you, whiney, i do appreciate that you are mostly honest about your motivations

sarahell, Tuesday, 21 July 2015 23:00 (ten years ago)

But its a double standard so why not just do it?

If I were a mod and that were all the more seriousness you brought to your request, I'd forego the pleasure of complying with it, too.

Aimless, Tuesday, 21 July 2015 23:01 (ten years ago)

this is the best of the web page i looked at with tons of vice stuff:

The Vice HBO shows Ive seen have been fantastic, and I loathe Vice historically as a publication. The one on illegal oil refining in Nigeria was horrifying.

they obviously pay for stuff that is better than it has to be. or pay for people to make stuff that is good. it's kinda like if maxim had started to give our genius grants to artists instead of living and dying by the boobage. pretty smart really.

scott seward, Tuesday, 21 July 2015 23:32 (ten years ago)

i like gawker and vice

only way forward is for editorial to hire a private detective to tail denton and expose him if he cheats on his husband

i nominate sterling for the role of detective, because nothing could honor the spirit of zuccotti park more than to shine the peoples' light on the sordid sex lives of rich people

thanks for the new dn j.

I'm slightly cynical about the *values of journalism* being so sacrosanct and separate from the values of the marketplace -- what journalists' instincts tell them is a "good story" is very much influenced by the marketplace, and this is a perfect example, except that it was kind of a misfire.

while this might be the most absurdly yucky example everyone attempting to drop this sick ass challop on us while simultaneously grandstanding abt gawkers morally reprehensibility lol your views are a desperate pastiche of dirty old rags and gristle soaked in skim milk

lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 02:49 (ten years ago)

also lol at this vice sideline, while i do find a lot of their travel stuff to p entertaining it is that way because its largely sensationalistic garbage made by ppl who have no idea what the heck theyre talking abt, its 90% lets drop a cool guy in a crazy ass third world country and let him paint the locals as lunatics

lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 02:51 (ten years ago)

Geeze, don't bring your damn skim milk hate in here too.

Jeff, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 02:52 (ten years ago)

also lif you think gakwers business opperation is cynical youre gonna want to pull out yr fainting couch before you research vices

lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 02:53 (ten years ago)

lol xp

I dunno about 90% but ya that weedy wite kid with the glasses gets dropped into Iraq and whatnot and freaks out when a bullet wizzes nearby which is kind of lol.

Honestly the most impressive thing at this point is lagoon maintaining his fake mid 90s slacker stoner idgaf persona while simultaneously going ballistic all over the place on this thread.

a strawman stuffed with their collection of 12 cds (jjjusten), Wednesday, 22 July 2015 03:06 (ten years ago)

that was like totally the first time i went ballistic actually feel like ive been pretty measured and thoughtful throughout this thread iirc

lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 03:11 (ten years ago)

cause while it might not be perfect the editorial/business firewall is an industry wide convention that is worth fighting for, there are constant internal beefs abt it up and down the line at places as serious and reputable as say the nytimes, ppl being all cynically dismissive of it just because it doesnt function perfectly are really not coming off as cooly knowledgable as they suspect

lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 03:12 (ten years ago)

i think that's otm you do want to give your reporters a high level of independence from the business side however like the wonkette post points out there's a huge difference between pulling a story because it criticized an advertiser who didn't like it and asked for it to be pulled (a real breach of the "firewall") and pulling a story because it was a piece of shit that should've never been published and served no purpose and you were afraid that leaving it up would bankrupt your company.

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 03:15 (ten years ago)

sure but i think in this case that prob they cldve pulled the story in such a way that went through the proper channels and didnt alienate their ppl so completely, its seems like what editorial took from it is that shd shit ever get deep management is just not serious abt the firewall and will crumble, and of course when shit gets deep is when u need ur principles

also imo redacting the story to strip out identifying personal details and appending and editors note wldve been a much more honest and transparent approach, its p clear management just flat out panicked

do people actually like her tone (the new wonkette)? It's this jargon-y smug "sassiness" that I find off-putting, like, please stop pandering with your second-lowest-common-denominator internet-isms and write like the articulate educated person you presumably are. If I wanted to read that kind of prose, I'd stick to the 20-somethings in my fb feed who provide it for free.

sarahell, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 03:24 (ten years ago)

Yeah no I think her tone is terrible, any points that article was trying to make are basically destroyed by it. Not to mention "dick wet in poo" is sub vice level

lol fair but those actual legal skill were 100% throwing silly ass garbage at the wall, which tbf is one of the key legal skills, but since were not concerned with billable hours here it did come off a lil obtuse and sophistic, also it was totally a digression so i feel like its unfair to paint me as riding for my gawk cru or whatever in that case, motion denied

imo trying to go for the essential nature zing is one of the hardest things to pull off and when ppl miss they just come off as kinda petty and insincere, i wldnt recommended it

im coming into this thread to say that lagoon is not a 90s stoner bc that is silly
