i think we're in a moment where sites of this style/method just aren't that different from each other; the ones to retain a character more local to themselves are a lot smaller and in the hands of their originators.

The Vice HBO shows Ive seen have been fantastic, and I loathe Vice historically as a publication. The one on illegal oil refining in Nigeria was horrifying.

they obviously pay for stuff that is better than it has to be. or pay for people to make stuff that is good. it's kinda like if maxim had started to give our genius grants to artists instead of living and dying by the boobage. pretty smart really.
