Yeah, I've heard Alex say "we don't penalize for spelling" re: Final Jeopardy many times, and the guy clearly knew the answer. WTF?

iirc you can misspell but in this case he misspelled to the point of dropping a syllable and was disqualified for that reason

i made it to the Actual (but not really) Jeopardy stage, i think I was exposed as a very casual viewer and not the hardcore type they wanted

I'm almost certain that I would play Real Jeopardy! the way I play videogames. Click the buzzer a fraction of a second too late and mutter 'oh, fuck off' a little too loudly and that would be that.

Don't get discouraged by that percentage! Take the audition experience as a fun lark and story to tell on its own terms... You'll feel better about it if you don't make it, but also that kind of relaxed and having-fun attitude will come through in how you conduct yourself in Actual Jeopardy!, which may help you stand out as a contestant. I'm pretty sure this is what got me in to be honest.

Yeah the Final Jeopardy category choice was RIDICULOUS. In the best sense. And of course being me I was thinking "4AD? Merge?" And it turns out to be something I thought was easy, but clearly wasn't based on the other two.

haha i saw that one in the newspaper yesterday (you know how they run printed final jeopardies as an ad for the show) and got hung up on the pounds sterling aspect, thinking it had to be a clue. "Solid Gold Records???"
