i was reading that this morning - he won't go short of a beer this evening if that happens. p tough on him though - £1.1m could make you for a long time, especially if this was a one-off.

doesn't look like dunne will have to worry about that prize money :(

call all destroyer, Monday, 20 July 2015 13:48 (ten years ago)

Dunne looks like he's headed for 78 or something. Even if he doesn't win, I hope he doesn't have one of these career-defining meltdowns.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 13:48 (ten years ago)

i guess he still loses prize money regardless of how low he sinks

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Monday, 20 July 2015 13:57 (ten years ago)

true and that does suck

call all destroyer, Monday, 20 July 2015 13:59 (ten years ago)

i mean i suppose for your sponsorship and all the other worries of a young amateur golfer, this is probably still great for his career.

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Monday, 20 July 2015 14:16 (ten years ago)

this is so exciting btw - so glad i'm working from home!

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Monday, 20 July 2015 14:18 (ten years ago)

Good bounce-back by Dunne.

The three amateurs up near the top are going to combine for a lot of money regardless. They ought to pass that on to some charity--do all the professionals really need to pocket an extra $50,000 or whatever?

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 14:20 (ten years ago)

xp work from home golfstream hi-5

call all destroyer, Monday, 20 July 2015 14:29 (ten years ago)

haha - hi-5 returned. i worked my ass off this morning to allow myself to do a particularly easy piece of work for the afternoon. my dad is texting me constantly, he has harrington at 110-1, oosthuizen at 50-1, and dunne at 7/1 to be leading amateur. #gamblor

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Monday, 20 July 2015 14:36 (ten years ago)

99 times out of a 100, your dad would have that last one locked up by now. But not today.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 14:41 (ten years ago)

Just going to complain again about how horribly busy my shift was today, when it should have been nice and quiet.

inside, skeletons are always inside, that's obvious. (dowd), Monday, 20 July 2015 14:44 (ten years ago)

double bogey padraig on the 6th :-(

xyzzzz__, Monday, 20 July 2015 14:50 (ten years ago)

How's the weather?

This Year's Model Victim (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 14:59 (ten years ago)

some rain and wind but seems manageable

call all destroyer, Monday, 20 July 2015 15:04 (ten years ago)

zach johnson has the bit between his teeth here

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Monday, 20 July 2015 15:06 (ten years ago)

double bogey spieth

xyzzzz__, Monday, 20 July 2015 15:32 (ten years ago)

The greens aren't looking their best after the rain

inside, skeletons are always inside, that's obvious. (dowd), Monday, 20 July 2015 15:43 (ten years ago)

Two birdies from spieth to recover.

aussie takeover at the mo.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 20 July 2015 15:57 (ten years ago)

not cool w/marc leishman winning this tbh

call all destroyer, Monday, 20 July 2015 16:01 (ten years ago)

What's up with him?

This Year's Model Victim (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 16:05 (ten years ago)

nothing in partic, i just have no thoughts about him where there are a lot of cool stories if other guys win

call all destroyer, Monday, 20 July 2015 16:30 (ten years ago)

wow huge putt from z johnson to be low in the clubhouse

wisdom be leakin out my louche douche truths (k3vin k.), Monday, 20 July 2015 16:38 (ten years ago)

Scott is done for the year.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 20 July 2015 16:39 (ten years ago)

Leishman hanging on..

xyzzzz__, Monday, 20 July 2015 16:43 (ten years ago)

Oops

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 16:44 (ten years ago)

Had to duck out for a dentist appointment...Double-bogey (four strokes from 100 feet?) and then two birdies--wow. The announcers seem to be indicating there just aren't enough scoring opportunities left for Spieth.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 16:46 (ten years ago)

Zach Johnson in pole position tbh

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 16:47 (ten years ago)

wow insane shot out of the bunker by leishman, ugh

wisdom be leakin out my louche douche truths (k3vin k.), Monday, 20 July 2015 16:48 (ten years ago)

yeah the front 9 is where most of the birdies are

wisdom be leakin out my louche douche truths (k3vin k.), Monday, 20 July 2015 16:49 (ten years ago)

Looking like a play-off right now.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:01 (ten years ago)

Yes--two to four guys.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:04 (ten years ago)

oh shit spieth

wisdom be leakin out my louche douche truths (k3vin k.), Monday, 20 July 2015 17:08 (ten years ago)

i just have no thoughts about him where there are a lot of cool stories if other guys win

I felt the same way, but it sounds like he has a good story too--what is the story with his wife they keep referring to?

Way to go Spieth!

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:08 (ten years ago)

She almost died apparently.

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 17:09 (ten years ago)

It's a pretty good story tbh.

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 17:10 (ten years ago)

Amazing what Spieth is up to.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:15 (ten years ago)

Not bad, but what a putt to have to stand over.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:24 (ten years ago)

Baseball analysts would have had a field day with the announcer there: "Statistically, this distance is not Spieth's strength, but he's such a clutch player, you can throw the stats out the window." And so he misses.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:29 (ten years ago)

Weird--if Spieth sticks his like Day did, and if Day spins his like Spieth did, they're both close.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:39 (ten years ago)

spieth gave that a good go

wisdom be leakin out my louche douche truths (k3vin k.), Monday, 20 July 2015 17:41 (ten years ago)

couple of painful shots for spieth in those last few holes

call all destroyer, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:42 (ten years ago)

Great try--I think Trevino passed Nicklaus much earlier in the round in '72. Contrary to the announcers, I think the pressure did get to him a little bit near the end, on the one putt and on the approach into 18. I'll root for Leishman now, but my interest has dwindled significantly.

clemenza, Monday, 20 July 2015 17:46 (ten years ago)

Should have put money on Oosthuizen today.

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 17:52 (ten years ago)

Most folks I know had money on Oosthuizen. Not sure why - they may well have had money on lots of people.

inside, skeletons are always inside, that's obvious. (dowd), Monday, 20 July 2015 18:13 (ten years ago)

wouldn't have wagered Zach would even be the highest-finishing Johnson tbqh

johnny crunch, Monday, 20 July 2015 18:33 (ten years ago)

Doh, Johnson, 2nd shot @ 17

Possibly Fingers (Tom D.), Monday, 20 July 2015 18:33 (ten years ago)

not the winner i wanted to see but zach is a good guy. actually worked at the last open in st andrews in another, now distant life, interviewed zach johnson and he was v generous with his time for a crappy kids' tv show.

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Monday, 20 July 2015 19:10 (ten years ago)

that's cool to know. i'm catching the end of the playoff now and his interview seems sincere and heartfelt. i totally forgot about him as a competitive golfer between his masters win and now but he beat the best in the game today.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 21 July 2015 03:24 (ten years ago)

gutted for louis but okay with zach winning. i like his old man game, punching most of his shots in, low wedges with hella spin, not much length off the tee.
