<3 ouzo raki sambuca or whatever
i liked zuzu ramen too - it is maybe a little over priced for ramen - still not an expensive meal tho - good place to be overall
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 14:15 (fifteen years ago) link
Ouza is hell disguised as paint thinner. Retsina, however, is pretty good once you get used to it.

I dunno. I don't get sticker shock too often but I was surprised the Zuzu Ramen bowl was 14 bucks. That's Momofuku prices .... this place is on 4th Ave in Brooklyn and the food wasn't that good. hot & sour shrimp was not hot or sour .... it was like an italian dish ... shrimps and noodles in red sauce with tomatoes
wish I liked the place, I was excited about it opening
― dmr, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 18:49 (fifteen years ago) link
got the zuze ramen which was good if not amzing and this really nice japanese wheat beer - didnt try the hot n sour - they are def trying to do some sort of in between momofuku and traditional type thing - u can charge those prices when yr the only game in town - and i feel like thats a not uncommon occurrence w/foods that have more competition in manhattan - so i whole heartedly support the opening of more ramens in the greater downtown brooklyn area - especially menkui tei should def open a branch in ft greene - i totally recommend that

but yeah the price def makes it into an occasional place where if it was more like $8-9 a bowl id eat it all the time - judging on when i was there it doesnt look like theyll be hurting for customers tho

Super Taste on Eldridge, while justifiably known primarily for their excellent noodles, makes damn good dumplings.

i went to le grand dakar last week. it was friendly and nice, but a little fusiony? i've had more authentic senegalese on 116th, but maybe that's because i was with a wolof speaker? i am now curious whether yolele! recipes are authentic or not. dude has been winning mad awards for it.

Shanghai Cafe and Joe's Shanghai are the two classics, but I prefer the Caf for the surly punk-rock-haircut butch waitresses who bark at you. And for the seaweed soup.

Wow, doing the whole farmer's feast at Blue Hill Stone Barns is so totally totally amazing. Meal was even much better than the last one I had, and I liked the fact that they've gone strictly tasting menu so you just get a bunch of surprises. I wouldn't have thought I would want to eat asparagus more than once in the same meal or that it could be so good, or that raw fennel would make a delicious appetizer. I also liked what felt like an even heavier emphasis on vegetables than last time. At one point they shaved some sort of semi-preserved embryonic egg onto our food, which was a little strange and excessive for me but still tasty.

I'm kinda psyched for the Checkers since it's around the corner from school/home. Granted I haven't had Checkers in like 8 years so I don't know if it's as good as I remember.
Meanwhile, seeing as I practically work in Chinatown, any Chinatown recs for lunch? So far I've tried Excellent Dumpling House (very good) and Tasty Dumpling (meh), and I'm already a fan of Vegetarian Dim Sum House on Pell. I also tried some Pho shop that was meh.
