TRUE DETECTIVE on hbo - Season Two

cursory research suggests it's a cartier ballon bleu (kate middleton wears one). in the picture the line of text below the hands says "automatic" and every self-winding version of the watch seems to have this. the watch in the shot is either a knockoff or (more likely) a quartz version, which of course would not have "automatic" printed on it.

basically propmaster not a watch guy (or gal)

little continuity problems like this support the theory that production was rushed

as does the failure to re-write 90% of Vaughn's dialogue ... I think he's doing pretty well considering how many of his lines are flat-out ridiculous

no i liked this episode. felt like we're finally going somewhere. just, the script could have used a few more drafts before they started shooting. and ian mcshane as frank.

Also bizarre True Detective / Silicon Valley crossover scene

i like how in the last episode they introduced the mysteriously poisoned land and then in this episode vince vaughan was like "oh yeah lol i poisoned that land"

The poisoned land was actually the very first thing introduced. First shot of season was land with flags on it. Which is probably the only sorta subtle thing they've done all year.

I feel like a lot of plot fell into place this episode. Good thing is, we know from last year, once the detectives figure out the shape of the crime, nothing of interest will happen afterwards!

yeah you're right they've been showing it throughout but i think last episode ray and ani drove up there and talked to the ranger guy about it

Yeah, def. I just kinda liked that opening shot, and that they brought it back. And since there's not a lot to like this season, I wanted to mention it.

I liked the getting the band back together scene. (Also love seeing Brianna Barksdale again.)

Pizzolatto needs to try reading his dialogue aloud before handing it to the cast

or maybe he does and that's actually the way he talks so it sounds fine to him

pizz has replaced the surreality of the supernatural elements of s1 with ppl not speaking like human beings. it certainly creates an effective sense of dislocation.

The pièce de résistance, of course, is Frank's grand declaration of frustration to Ray. "The enemy won't reveal itself, Raymond," he says, like a summer-stock Pacino in Godfather III. "Stymies my retribution. It's like, uh, blue balls in your heart." Blue balls in your heart, people. Blue. Balls. In. Your. Heart. Look, a simile makes connections in order to uncover meaning, not overwhelm it; "blue balls in your heart" does nothing to explain the unique rage of delayed revenge except bury it under a mountain of "Wait…what the hell did he just say?" It's enough to give you, uh, jock itch in your brain.

ha i love the mayor and his defense of power naps

vaughn and the mayor should have switched roles, maybe. or just have that guy playing every role, maybe. he's incredible.

need to watch this ep again. i liked it. NP is either really weird or attempting some consciously stylized dialogue of a type i dont think ive ever seen before. (maybe both)

there was some real strong stuff here imo. farrell wordlessly communicating an entire mental breakdown was impressive.
