That Jezebel 15-year-old does seem to think she's doing something punk rock

unless she is literally 15 years old, you are a misogynist

Not everyone has to feel good about the truth. If it's true, you hit "Submit Post."
― Your Ribs are My Ladder, Friday, 17 July 2015 15:59 (ten years ago)
eh the gawker bros have already given enough justifications for why they do shit like this, ranging from weaselly "ethos" stuff to what basically amounts to "the game is the game *shrug*"again, don't see why they would bother repeating all the same stuff xps
― Trap Queenius (wins), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:00 (ten years ago)
(Actually, I genuinely do apologize to 15-year-olds everywhere for using them as a shorthand for jejune takes) x-post
― Your Ribs are My Ladder, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:03 (ten years ago)
yeah, the fact that they're not aggressively defending the piece here or on twitter makes me think there's a lot of scrambling around behind the scenes right now. but i guess when you point a humiliation laser at people every day, eventually you're gonna shoot yourself. that's not even karma, that's just an inevitability.
they've always been 2 of my fav people here and i've always rooted for them and hoped they'd change gawker more than it would change them, so this is difficult to watch tbh.
― some dude, Friday, July 17, 2015 3:42 PM (13 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
actually max has doubled down on defending this piece on twitter under the guise of "this man was fucking around on his wife tho!" as if he's holding the sanctity of hetero-normative marriage sacred which is even more gross and homophobic.
― Cory Sklar, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:04 (ten years ago)
The whole thing could just as easily (and really should've been) a blind item piece, if it had to be a piece at all. I just don't understand the impetus of dragging the subject of the story through the mud like this. He's not selling black market organs or whatever. He's a publishing exec who doesn't even play in editorial.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:04 (ten years ago)
it's true that the lasting impact has yet to be seen but i'm just speaking to my own response to the article, whiney. this has seriously damaged my own opinion of gawker as an outlet and i can't imagine i'm alone.
― gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:05 (ten years ago)
Seconded.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:05 (ten years ago)
chaki would you give that angle a rest thanks

yeah i saw that, i meant that after some initial tweets yesterday he'd gone uncharacteristically silent (xp)

no fuck you.

like idgaf about hulk hogan but recklessly outing ppl is gonna hit closer to home for way more people xp

HERE's why you should still interact with me on this message board. Don't feel weird
it is true that you should not personally trust journalists in general, especially when you only 'know' their information-gathering asses via your public posts on an interweb message board
their interests are opposed to yours
― j., Friday, 17 July 2015 16:08 (ten years ago)
like stop trying to silence how gross this all is from that VERY REAL perspective. sorry this isnt all poshboy inside jokes. take that shit to the londontown laugh factory imo. and since it hasn't been posted yet, check out jordan's "source" on this story.

this is so sordid it's not even fun to rail against.
― Treeship, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:10 (ten years ago)
Also there are people on this board more famous than Mr. Geithner. I see no reason why they should feel safe posting personal stuff on here or even 77, just saying
― Treeship, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:12 (ten years ago)
i'm with chaki here tbh, how do you present yourself as a progressive media outlet one minute and tar & feather people with conservative morality the next? it's pretty twisted
― gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:12 (ten years ago)
It's a pretty solid angle! The grossness here is not confined to "This is media inside baseball".
xxp ironically the Londontown laugh factory is pretty gritty.

the outing/adultery police stuff is gross, everyone itt (except...whiney) agrees with that. chaki seemed to be (repeatedly) pushing a very narrow sort of outrage on behalf of people in open marriages that i have a hard time believing represents that communities views on the matter
― wisdom be leakin out my louche douche truths (k3vin k.), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:16 (ten years ago)

not hard to believe that a rich power player has an understanding w/ his spouse where he gets everything he wants i dunno but on the other hand common sense seems to say you don't really know shit about other people's marriages so
― j., Friday, 17 July 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

i absolutely am not. this has nothing to do with people in open marriage. i am upset at this outward homophobia and max in particular thinking this is cool, him being a straight white guy in a position of power. you are being so weird and obtuse about this.
― Cory Sklar, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:21 (ten years ago)
Chaki otm
― Treeship, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:22 (ten years ago)
exactly, this guy wasn't a public official or celebrity standing up for any sort of sexual morality so maybe don't drag him through the mud for perceived transgressions
― gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:24 (ten years ago)
xp Chaki is not pushing "this guy has an open marriage", he's repeatedly pointing out that We Don't Know, we only know that this is some "gay men - threat or menace?" bullshit.

nah, i agree w/ that too
― lil dork (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:25 (ten years ago)
Most people probably couldn't tell you who Tim Geithner is, much less David. This is basically on the same level as picking out a name at random from a phone book and airing all his dirty laundry.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 July 2015 16:26 (ten years ago)
picking out a name from the conde nast directory, surely
― gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:27 (ten years ago)
i agree that the sanctity of marriage/caring about the wives defense is gross. esp as a defense of an article that mentions his wife ONCE
― jello my future biafriend (roxymuzak), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:27 (ten years ago)
i apologize for calling you weird kevin k and im virtually shaking your hand

Yeah, "most people" maybe. But for people who actually read the news he was one of the higher-profile figures in the economic meltdown. Like, people do listen to NPR and shit.

― The Bends by Radiohead (imago), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:46 (ten years ago)
Part of me feels bad for J0rdan. He's always "pushed it" even by gawker's standards and clearly was encouraged to do this, and convinced by gawker's editors that invasions of this kind were a normal thing for journalists to do. Now he's crossed the line and even gawker writers are distancing themselves from the piece.
He's an adult of course and ultimately has pursued this life and is responsible for what he's published, but still.

im sorry if im irrational or coming off self righteous itt. it's upsetting and a reality shock that... people i've interacted with for years even on a tiny scale, that post on ilx, can pull this kind of stuff and my stomach is turning and my heart physically hurts and the world is shit.

Beyond all that, Gawker has an ongoing war with Reddit, owned by the magazine company for which the CFO works, which suggests this is part of some petty, vindictive drive for vengeance, with the CFO as collateral damage.
not that reddit doesn't deserve to be attacked for maaaaaaany fuckin reasons, but that g.g. point is otm in laying bare the what seems like the motivation for many gawker media exposes
― velcoro pharmacy & provisions (slothroprhymes), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:49 (ten years ago)
Outing the CFO of their parent company will, I'm sure, have an earth-shattering effect on Reddit.
― Something Called Fudge (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 July 2015 16:51 (ten years ago)
xxxps I don't think anyone needs to pretend JS is an innocent naif led astray - he's clearly known what his role was at Gawker and who he had to be to get the job. He deserves zero sympathy.
