everybody itt getting complicatedly pro-vaughan way too fast
the teeth thing was weirdly embedded in this, & it was too flat to really have any kind of totemic power, & kinda flat because of vaughan imo

hey i was wondering, does this show have one editor? i think i don't understand what it means for three people to direct it. i liked everybody standing around just kinda fucked after the shoot out, but even that could have felt comparatively acute in someone else's hands, i think

also hey ban nic pizzolatto from writing ethnically-inflected criminal dialogue; vaughan muscling off against like broadbrush italians or russians or w/e is so hard to watch

i liked the last few shots a lot...paul especially remaining vigilant, gun up and ready in both hands--vigilant as he is clearly in all aspects of life, but finally with an object. the other two reacting to the trauma that he has already absorbed.

still just a few rogue loons, no?

he's terrible

Number None, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 18:44 (ten years ago)

I thought Vaughn may have been dealing with Armenians, or Greeks, too.

Cunga, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 18:45 (ten years ago)

turks rite?

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 19:04 (ten years ago)

turkish coffee in a pastry shop suggests turks
I'VE NEVER EVEN HAD A CAVITY
do you floss a lot
yes actually and i use a water pik
do those things really work
oh definitely, but you have to be consistent

lol

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 19:50 (ten years ago)

parted ways with vaughn there, turkish coffee is delicious & you sir are RONG

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 19:50 (ten years ago)

i dont know how to be in this world
look out the window look at me no one does

p good insight tbh

nah it was another stroke of bullshit used to paint pizollatto's (overstuffed and now stale) portrait of nihilistic sprawl, where every life is a dead end.
like the EPA guy in this ep who explains the dire situation of the water tables to a bemused farrell and mcadams is the first person to show up this season who hasn't been directed to act as if his soul was missing and that the resulting vacuum causes vibrations of pain and torment to emanate out to the world through his every gaze and expression.

every bit of pithy hard-assed realistic wisdom vaughn's character dishes out is enticing but empty of any real insight. with cole last season it felt less out of place because it was closely tied to the character and less a reflection of his surroundings, but vaughn's lines and the one-note desperation of every character here pretty much encapsulate the meaninglessness of this seasons attempts at profound insight into our condition or w/e.

happy ppl be happening everywhere outside my car window, smiling with the day

sounds painful

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 22:36 (ten years ago)

Can you imagine Ray taking his redheaded son to Disneyland. He'd try to show him a good time and lighten up but you can picture the yelling.

Cunga, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 22:37 (ten years ago)

that shd be an entire ep tbf

lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 22:37 (ten years ago)

Ray's dad talking about "trees like giants" and the last shots of the opening credits make me think this is gonna play out in Northern California.

Ani's sister said the hooker parties were up north.

the childhood commune too

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 00:33 (ten years ago)

The one thing I ask of this show is at some point in the season Ray says something insightful and someone turns to him and says, meaningfully, "True, detective."

something totally new, it’s the AOR of the twenty first century (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 00:39 (ten years ago)

I gotta move to where you are.

what if they're......the same thing

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 01:00 (ten years ago)

was listening to some pod about this while trying to work and they were advancing the position that this was a rushed/troubled production which is feeling otm

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 01:01 (ten years ago)

oh that definitely makes sense

"Wait a minute...that was_our_commune... *punches floor*...maniacs" - Ani

Cunga, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 01:50 (ten years ago)

I don't mean to detail or hijack the thread, but I have to point that some of you, your auras are some of the largest I've ever seen. I know we don't use a karma or point system on this board, but if we did it would be off the charts.

Carry on.

Cunga, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 01:56 (ten years ago)

That part about adoption being the taking of someone else's pain was so bad

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 01:57 (ten years ago)

that + the vaping jokes makes pizzalata seem like an out of touch and bitter old lol

he seems like a weird old virgin imo

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 01:58 (ten years ago)

seriously tho I got college drama production vibes from that scene

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 02:01 (ten years ago)

I don't know how anyone can blame Vinny Vaughn for what goes on here because every scene is just him asking people for money lol

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 02:04 (ten years ago)

with cole last season it felt less out of place because it was closely tied to the character and less a reflection of his surroundings, but vaughn's lines and the one-note desperation of every character

yeah it is true that one reason why vaughn is so jarring is that the disconnect between college nihlist and fast talking conman is so wide

like one of the aspects of being a good conman is believing in your own lies so to have him openly question himself in front of his wife is p weird

, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 02:11 (ten years ago)

I wish I'd had a nice chill posi one night stand like waffle guy

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 02:13 (ten years ago)

lol
yes so far this show is ‘bad’ (in sense of not really working)
but it’s so in weird interesting way, which i enjoy criticizing, but also for which i can’t help feeling some affection
it's at once overly obvious & opaque
glimpse the potential/ intention/ ambition; witness the floundering, foundering
like, feel some kinda kinship with/ understanding of its flaws
failson season

drash, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 02:46 (ten years ago)

otm

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 02:47 (ten years ago)

kinda feel like 'my money is gone i must race around town shaking down all my old sources of income' sets the pace WAY too fast for the one the general mood of the show seems to project

like, dude must have seen zodiac, why isn't this multi-jurisdictional case meandering around for months of bleak inaction

j., Wednesday, 15 July 2015 02:50 (ten years ago)

well pacing in general has been a massive problem

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 03:11 (ten years ago)

swear i'm not trolling but of acting, scripting, plotting, direction; which would you say is the best
i would cautiously go with acting i guess but i'm not enjoying the acting

you are extreme, Patti LuPone. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 03:24 (ten years ago)

acting, even its just for farrell & the mayor

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 03:25 (ten years ago)

i liked it when colin farrell cried about his shitty life

and when vince vaughn beat up that guy, was that acting

acting, followed by plotting and mood (I understand why the mood is disliked but I dunno I get it)

velcoro pharmacy & provisions (slothroprhymes), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 03:36 (ten years ago)

the premise (before the padding out), mood and themes are all cool beans to me. A lot of it has not been executed as well as it was last season, and I blame that on the rushed script and (from what we've heard here) production.

It's the bloated second album that's still fascinating though it's on pace to shipwreck, as we discussed earlier

Cunga, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 03:39 (ten years ago)

Art department and locations are great. We'll cast. Disagreement about leads but look at redhead, redhead boy, Rick Springfield, mayor's son, Paul's lover.

Cunga, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 03:43 (ten years ago)

Lil redhead girl that dates vince vaughn

Cunga, Wednesday, 15 July 2015 03:43 (ten years ago)

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 04:40 (ten years ago)

j., Wednesday, 15 July 2015 04:53 (ten years ago)

Redhead girl I just didn't want to leave out of the redhead triangle we listed.

Wait...triangle...Bermuda triangle...disappear...missing girl...girl gone...gone girl...affleck...divorce...jennifer garner...james garner...detective rockford...rockford files

ROCKFORD FILES, it's the missing link
