there are all kinds of traumas.

tums is a perfect touch.
like, you know that's already in every detective's glove compartment.
― ryan, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:09 (ten years ago)
velcoro has all the bad habits
agree re vaughnlike, formality in way he delivers lines (prob most 'difficult' dialogue to say convincingly) is interesting rather than bad performancelol at ominous sugar/cavity/teeth metaphors
― drash, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:09 (ten years ago)
btw let me note for the record
those moments, they stare back at youyou don’t remember them, they remember youturn around, there they are, staring

― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:16 (ten years ago)
xps yes, that corroborated yr good observation upthread re father/son dynamic bw semyon & velcoro
― drash, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:16 (ten years ago)
ray was pretty good dad to paul there
― drash, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:17 (ten years ago)
"no one knows how to be in the world" feels like predominant theme of the season so far, really. that and your parents will fuck you up, but that's ok because everyone is fucked up.
― ryan, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:18 (ten years ago)
ya, tho he cldve stood to add something abt how being gay was okay cause its surly just as miserable as being striaght
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:20 (ten years ago)
what year is it even when ray has his mustache
like 2004?
― j., Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:22 (ten years ago)
wasn't the line really 'I don't know how to be out in this world'? It was about being gay, which went right past the great detective Ray 'Columbo' Velcoro.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:28 (ten years ago)
no i think that was only part of it
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:30 (ten years ago)

Oh, wait, Taylor K's starlet story is on TMZ on a tablet in the first ep, so it's now-ish.
― ... (Eazy), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 15:37 (ten years ago)
"i just don’t know how to be out in the world, man"
if it was just about being gay, that wd be really bad line
it's also about, among other things, being out of the militarybeing out of yr own headbeing out of yr mother's womb

feel like not knowing that there are houses full of girls live camming is reasonable, also she was flustered cause she was expecting to find a bordello

It's funny to think of all of these characters taking Facebook breaks, adding each other as friends as their relationships deepen.

― 龜, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:04 (ten years ago)
i enjoyed the "molly" joke lol
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:06 (ten years ago)
season 3 should def have more olds as principal characters.
― ryan, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:06 (ten years ago)
hes i refuse to say "molly"
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:07 (ten years ago)
it will always be X to him
E if he were a lil younger
i wasn't really paying attention but vince sure did talk a lot about teeth am i right? was all of it just about pulling the guy's teeth out in the last ep or was it other teeth stuff
― 龜, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:08 (ten years ago)
what is teeth supposed to mean to jung or whoever, fear of aging?
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:10 (ten years ago)
o yeah rite that's why i was asking mainly, the e-cig, like, the entire rest of the show seems to be set more than (at LEAST) a decade behind so it didn't really make sense to me, like was she supposed to be a vanguard vaper or something
― j., Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:25 (ten years ago)
maybe, those e-cigs def showed up a while before the hardcore vaping devices/culture
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:27 (ten years ago)
can someone do a series of image macros with screenshots + fortune cookie nicky pizza dialogue
pleeeeeeze
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 17:56 (ten years ago)
everybody itt getting complicatedly pro-vaughan way too fastthe teeth thing was weirdly embedded in this, & it was too flat to really have any kind of totemic power, & kinda flat because of vaughan imo
hey i was wondering, does this show have one editor? i think i don't understand what it means for three people to direct it. i liked everybody standing around just kinda fucked after the shoot out, but even that could have felt comparatively acute in someone else's hands, i think
― tender is the late-night daypart (schlump), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 18:21 (ten years ago)
also hey ban nic pizzolatto from writing ethnically-inflected criminal dialogue; vaughan muscling off against like broadbrush italians or russians or w/e is so hard to watch
― tender is the late-night daypart (schlump), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 18:22 (ten years ago)
i liked the last few shots a lot...paul especially remaining vigilant, gun up and ready in both hands--vigilant as he is clearly in all aspects of life, but finally with an object. the other two reacting to the trauma that he has already absorbed.
― ryan, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 18:24 (ten years ago)
everybody itt getting complicatedly pro-vaughan way too fast
still just a few rogue loons, no?
he's terrible
― Number None, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 18:44 (ten years ago)
I thought Vaughn may have been dealing with Armenians, or Greeks, too.
― Cunga, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 18:45 (ten years ago)

parted ways with vaughn there, turkish coffee is delicious & you sir are RONG
nah it was another stroke of bullshit used to paint pizollatto's (overstuffed and now stale) portrait of nihilistic sprawl, where every life is a dead end. like the EPA guy in this ep who explains the dire situation of the water tables to a bemused farrell and mcadams is the first person to show up this season who hasn't been directed to act as if his soul was missing and that the resulting vacuum causes vibrations of pain and torment to emanate out to the world through his every gaze and expression.
every bit of pithy hard-assed realistic wisdom vaughn's character dishes out is enticing but empty of any real insight. with cole last season it felt less out of place because it was closely tied to the character and less a reflection of his surroundings, but vaughn's lines and the one-note desperation of every character here pretty much encapsulate the meaninglessness of this seasons attempts at profound insight into our condition or w/e.
happy ppl be happening everywhere outside my car window, smiling with the day
