I am actually living on a bridge, we are vaping, using single-cup coffeemakers, and there's a talking dolphin

― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 14:43 (eleven years ago)
tbrr I got a little worried by that article about the dude who blew up his kidneys by drinking a gallon of iced tea per day. saw a little bit of myself between the lines.
― Upright Mammal (mh), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 14:44 (eleven years ago)
usually sometime in the afternoon i just scramble up what's left of my morning cold brew, dunk in a couple small tea light candles designed to float in a bathtub, & hang on for a few minutes til it's tepid, add a dash of milk, and it's great, too.
― tender is the late-night daypart (schlump), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 14:46 (eleven years ago)
I read a really dream-destroying article on sun tea saying that you can just put the tea in the water and put it in the fridge and it'll taste the same. The sun does nothing. :(
I read that, too, which prompted me to ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and buy some Lipton cold brew iced tea bags and chuck them in a pitcher of cool tap water per instructions and you know what it's really good.

uh isnt cold brew tea just instant tea???
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 14:50 (eleven years ago)
idg what is diff between "cold brew" branded tea bags and normal tea bags
― Upright Mammal (mh), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 14:52 (eleven years ago)
prob about $1.50
btw I recommend luzianne tea for iced tea it is good
guy who cant taste the difference between cold brew and regular coffee poured over ice shares magical pour coffee over ice recipe no one has ever heard of
Uh, that's the whole point. Good on you all if you can tell the difference. My lack of sophistication will save me so much time and money.

joooosh
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:05 (eleven years ago)
I do like how the lil' bottles are packaged and marketed, though. No joke, they've done a great job. And I did have a great cold coffee on tap at Dark Matter the other week, so maybe there's hope!
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:11 (eleven years ago)
No! Instant iced tea is powdered and horrible. Here - http://drinks.seriouseats.com/2012/07/the-food-lab-the-truth-about-sun-tea-forget-the-sun-cold-brew-tea-is-better.html
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:26 (eleven years ago)
Cold brew bags have dustier, crappier tea leaves in them. On purpose because I guess that works better.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:27 (eleven years ago)
hmm I have skepticism
― Upright Mammal (mh), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:30 (eleven years ago)
kinda prefer an iced americano too 'cold brew' #savage
― doug ellin (Lamp), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:32 (eleven years ago)
The cold brew bags are as opposed to making tea with boiling water, which is what I normally did. Cold brew is a lot less bitter and it doesn't get all cloudy.
I never went in for sun tea. Seemed gimmicky plus I remember Lipton marketing special bags for sun tea in the 80s. If boiling water was good enough for my grandma dammit it was good enough for me.
Anyway back on topic I got some of that Trader Joe's iced coffee concentrate and it fucks up my guts something fierce.

that starbucks via stuff is made for people who are constipated iirc
― Upright Mammal (mh), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:37 (eleven years ago)
We take the TJ's coffee concentrate on camping trips. I'm not sure it's defined as iced coffee though, is it? We've always heated it up on the stove and diluted (per instructions) with water.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:39 (eleven years ago)
has anyone had this, looks super-concentrated but reminds me of lol ilxhttp://www.gradyscoldbrew.com/

― Upright Mammal (mh), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:41 (eleven years ago)

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:43 (eleven years ago)

it's really $$ so I don't get it often but it's delicious
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:44 (eleven years ago)
xpost Sounds more like a knockoff of a chicory cold coffee Blue Bottle sells.
My dad used to drink chicory coffee. Was never really my thing.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 15:46 (eleven years ago)
maybe blue bottle ripped gradys off... as far as the idea of putting the ancient recipe of hickory coffee into a bottle lol
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 16:17 (eleven years ago)
lol like blue bottle is inventing anything
― Upright Mammal (mh), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)
Yeah who knows. Point being, lots of people seem to be doing cold chicory coffee and bottles.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 16:19 (eleven years ago)

― lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 June 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)
we have a couple 90s-style coffee shops around, very much the vibe of coffee shops of that era as far as setup and art on the walls and occasional lesbian folk singers playing. I should buy beans from the one that roasts beans.
― Upright Mammal (mh), Tuesday, 30 June 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)
dark roast always bad buy medium roast or just chew on green coffee beans

my impt coffee opinions
-- best way to make iced coffee is to use an Aeropress over a glass w/ ice in it. Add milk or water as desired.
-- best coffee rn is Ethiopian bcz it is complex and fruity and tastes like blueberries!!! How fun is that? I bet it wd be SO good cold brewed
-- cold brew takes so much coffee-to-water and is kinda expensif to make :-/
