Continues here...
Message itself is hard to disagree with. Who doesn't hate rich assholes? But there's something old-fashioned-propaganda-ish about the comic that I find kind of revolting. It's like they just updated some anti-semitic cartoon from the 20s and made the main character less Jewy.

Are those supposed to be babies? They're both really fucking ugly babies.

I kinda liked the cartoon... the style is done in a slightly depressing depression-era style though, admittedly, but it's pretty clear.

it's a simple message, can't really complain about it; so painfully self-evident but we still routinely have conservative politicians using the bootstraps shit to get elected so....

it's mostly a default "how dare you pretend to be human, let's vivisect this fucker" bit that twitter does every time a billionaire tries to jiu-jitsu social media but it's a bit more acidically misogynistic this go round, yes

tbf, 50 shades is fucking horrible garbage and james appears to be the most lucky plagiarist in the world based on every account i've ever read
― like a giraffe of nah (forksclovetofu), Monday, 29 June 2015 21:56 (eleven years ago)
Is she a plagiarist in the copying-sentences sense (bad) or just for transposing the Twilight characters (which doesn't seem like a big deal)?
I understand the "vivisect this fucker" thing isn't new, just surprised seems to have gotten Facebook traction with (usually) non-mean friends
― Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 29 June 2015 22:13 (eleven years ago)
At this point I think you gotta be aware of what happens when you (a famous person) put yourself out there. Certainly doesn't excuse the behavior though. The only author I can think of who is somewhat immune to the internet hate machine is JK Rowling. Its there but gets drowned out by millions (billions?) of fans.

― Frobisher, Monday, 29 June 2015 22:30 (eleven years ago)
xxp she's a plagiarist insofar as i understand that she plagiarized the material, characters, verbiage and set pieces not just from Twilight http://www.adweek.com/galleycat/fifty-shades-of-grey-wayback-machine/50128but from the fanfic community as wellhttp://fanlore.org/wiki/Fifty_Shades_of_Grey:_The_Reddit_Origins_Essay
― like a giraffe of nah (forksclovetofu), Monday, 29 June 2015 22:31 (eleven years ago)
Yeah she basically turned her Twilight fanfic, many portions of which she lifted, into 50 Shades of Grey...Lots of hay has been made about what this says about the relationships portrayed in Twilight (like you need even more evidence they are creepy than the actual text).
― Frobisher, Monday, 29 June 2015 22:35 (eleven years ago)
i mean, i may well be wrong as to how much she's ripped this off from other fanfic types as i just have a surface understanding of the situation but i have paged through the book and wow, it is horrible so that in and of itself it should allow some dartboard treatment. it's the anti-woman ad hominem that's exhausting.
