What does Stannis' loss imply for the power of R'hllor? I have no faith in D&D to have thought about that at all.
― Frederik B, Monday, June 15, 2015
not sure why it's so important that this be established definitively at this juncture or made the subject of some long onscreen hashing-out. melisandre looked appropriately shook when she arrived as castle black but we also know the game ain't done and it's p likely bolton banners will burn before it's all over. gods do things in their own ways...

not sure why you're quoting me when you're discussing made up viewpoints far from what I'm talking about?

Not really?

If my words are like honey - and I agree, they are, and the finest of honey, from the vast flower fields of the reach - why put different ones in my mouth? Especially since those words are like overcooked smallfolk barley stew.

not to at all diminish fred b whose english is flawless but i think there might have been a 2nd language confusion, in sense at least
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 13:43 (ten years ago)
afaict Fred B expressed lack of faith in the showrunners having fully considered a question that is currently in D) Not enough information state and then lost his mind?
― resulting post (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 15:52 (ten years ago)
rogermexico ate some poisoned honey and started hallucinating since he claimed I'd said. Happens all the time.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 15:58 (ten years ago)
you should be happy when someone quotes you in their post: $$$$
― Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 16:34 (ten years ago)
But... he responded directly to words you actually typed and submitted? You asked a question and said the showrunners hadn't thought about it at all, rogermexico responded that it seemed that they had based on what was shown and that all the details didn't need to be put out all at once for them to show evidence of having considered the question you posed, and then... you said you never asked that question and accused him of putting words in your mouth?
― I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 16:36 (ten years ago)
Right now I'm just baffled as to what it is that you believe you said because it appears to be something completely different from what you actually said.
He quoted half a post. And answered: not sure why it's so important that this be established definitively at this juncture or made the subject of some long onscreen hashing-out. Which I'd never said it was.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 16:44 (ten years ago)
He completely strawmanned my objections, and I stopped taking him seriously.
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 16:45 (ten years ago)
So basically this show has made you ridiculous
― I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 17:01 (ten years ago)
have u considered these objections may be... ~made~ of straw?

― Frederik B, Tuesday, June 16, 2015
so you have no faith that the showrunners have considered a question you don't need to see answered, is how i break it down to an extent.
― resulting post (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 17:05 (ten years ago)
rogermexico: If you feel my objections are worthless, then why don't you shut the fuck up? Why you need to state that? I don't think they're worthless, somebody else might not think they're worthless. Get the fuck out of the conversation, wouldn't that be the best use of everyone's time? You're a moron. I complain that they take something that makes sense in the books, and fuck it up for the show. That does not mean I demand they then spend more time explaining what they did. It means I dislike that they fucked it up. Is that so hard to understand?

in the interest of dragging this thread added to the clusterfuxxor hall of fame, I'll quote the entire post and go full ILX-classic. apologies if my shorthand translated poorly though i think it's pretty direct for modern ILX?
Really, I'm complaining because the only thing I like about asoiaf is the world building, and the show consistently dispels with that in favor of boobs and rape. What does Stannis' loss imply for the power of R'hllor? I have no faith in D&D to have thought about that at all.― Frederik B, Monday, June 15, 2015
Frederik B I have zero beef with you and I agree that we're missing a lot wrt e.g. the smallfolk in the riverlands that would help to establish the context for the dramatic action in king's landing. I'm personally disappointed the brain trust chose to have jaime fuck off to dorne instead of following his arc from the books, though i can understand their reasoning.
It's just that the specific example you provide in support of your general objection doesn't obtain. It's no more established at this point in the books than in the show, and is in fact ~unknowable~ because the world-historical events required to establish the relative positions of the gods have not yet played out. What's more, it's clear from Melisandre's look on her return to Castle Black that this is in fact one of the worldbuilding questions the showrunners actually ~have~ considered. She expected a neat quid pro quo from her god, and received instead silence or worse. ~What can it mean~?
I don't want to make this thread an inhospitable place for anyone. Just asking for a more apposite illustration of what you feel the runners of a middlebrow melodrama with a lot of fans who just like rooting for favorite characters ~should~ be doing here without turning this into a 7-season drama about the production, distribution and enjoyment of bread?

What does Stannis' loss imply for the power of R'hllor?
Based on what they've shown in the past in terms of Lord of Light magic (trying to separate show logic from book logic), Melisandre sees visions of things, and that Stannis' defeat says less about the power of the lord of light than Melisandre's interpretations of what she sees/interpretation of prophecy?

I haven't watched the episode yet (exams to fail) but wasn't the idea supposed to be that burning whatsherface (I don't know why I can't remember her name) would help melt the snow? And is that not what happened?
