HBO adaptation of Game of Thrones - will this be just for nerds? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

i keep thinking stannis might die, but then i remember Melisandre. i'd guess like she'll have some sort of role to play (tee hee) during the battles/war against the white walkers, just because she's got the magic thing going on. seems like her fire witch spells + dragons + special sword materials that can destroy white walkers might what ends up saving the day at the end. and if stannis died, i can't see the army switching their loyalties to her, since she's creepy and keeps trying to sleep with people and advises leaders to burn their only children with at least some frequency.

Letting Stannis die would be such a tv-version thing to do. He did what the red god asked of him. By the logic of the world he should be safe. So I'm going with everyone he fights against.

(We're so far away from the books, that I feel like I can speculate freely. #NoSpoilers)

I'm increasingly unsure as to where this show is going and what the point of it is. Everything more or less makes sense but we might be losing too many toe holds into positive storylines.

Also are we all caught up now in the books? I know some bit have been surpassed but we could really start a new, more or less combined thread now, can't we?

as I understand it there are things that never happened in the show that could still come up later, so it's tricky?

Nope. The only deviation is in its finality (vaguely open in the book that character might still be alive -- in the show, per all the stories just now, character is dead dead dead.)

"Stories" = embargoed articles now running, interviews etc.

well i think the point is that if it was left even somewhat open in the book, they were pretty goddamn definitive there unless they're gonna do a zombie mountain on him.

I'm rooting for Cersei's revenge now. Never thought I'd be glad to see her and Mountain alive. Just hoping Margaery and Loras will be okay.

I think the dragon is the only reason they'd treat her favourably. There's very little chance they'd be loyal to her because of their prior association.
They did look almost like they were celebrating so maybe they saw her flying the dragon.

Jaime could turn the boat around. I don't think he has any reason to fear Dorne, especially with the Dornish boy. I initially thought he'd kill the boy in a rage but maybe he'd be more sympathetic because the boy will be distraught too.

I know the big spoiler that hasn't happened (and might never) in the tv show, so I'm off to the spoiler thread too.
Winds Of Winter is probably coming out at the end of this year so it won't be a safe thread forever.
