It makes sense dorne is hot and so are dragons
― 龜, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:22 (ten years ago)
xp both characters have been eliminated from the show so ... ?
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:24 (ten years ago)
right, i was saying i had no idea what the show is gonna do with doran, like i figure he'll tell ellaria he has a long game at work but given what they have to work with in the show idk what that could end up being.
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:27 (ten years ago)
with what is going on currently, the only thing i can think of is changing the rules and having marcylla rule rather than thommen, which would make trystan king ...
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:28 (ten years ago)
hmm, hadn't really thought about the implications of that particular change. yeah, i have no fucking clue what they are up to.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:29 (ten years ago)
Ellaria is Arianne now though.
Also, yeah, Prince Aegon probably not actually a Targaryen.
― Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:33 (ten years ago)
Ellaria can't be Arianne in terms of marriage plotting and empire building
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:36 (ten years ago)
At least as far as Sand Snake goading and "Doran, we want revenge ASAP come on" go, they're fulfilling similar functions.
― Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:39 (ten years ago)
So if more Dorne-plans were to happen next season - or last episode this year - would people stop being disappointed in Dorne?
― Frederik B, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:51 (ten years ago)
Dorne just looks bad sorry
― 龜, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 21:06 (ten years ago)
yeah dorne feels mostly really under-budgeted and some of the acting is crap and the show hasn't done a great job of explaining why we're spending so much time there
― Clay, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 21:10 (ten years ago)
Dorne looks like a rehab clinic for rich people
― 龜, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 21:16 (ten years ago)
awkward how the show is rewriting the source material on the fly while still being held back by it
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 21:18 (ten years ago)
agree the show shd just take wing and live its truth f the h8rs
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 23:39 (ten years ago)
dorne is like a room and a garden and a couple of sand dunes. the iron isles felt more real.
― resulting post (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 00:40 (ten years ago)
Dorne was pretty silly in the books too.
So I'm wondering if show Doran has secret agenda like book Doran. Something nasty's gotta happen in the finale after everything wrapping up so neatly.
― Hell Books (latebloomer), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 00:47 (ten years ago)
I have to be the one of the very few people who was pretty into the Iron Islands kingsmoot madness and found everything to do with Dorne a real snooze. The show is essentially paying Dorne lipservice - we went to Dorne because the books do, but there's nothing to be found there. Doran didn't do enough philosophizing and the rebellion of the sand snakes was laughably inept for more or less the same reason- there just wasn't enough screentime. The whole story was rushed to the point of incoherence. I actually think the Iron Islands could have used the same amount of time more effectively. But who knows- the show and the books both have the same problems at this point - a season where very little happens compared to the neverending twists of the past few, and the assumption that you will care about the fate of new characters who have heretofore had little or nothing to do with the story so far.

there just wasn't enough screentime.
Yeah, and since every scene from the book, when translated to the show, will have to compete teh bewbs, the time crunch for story development gets compounded.
― Falconetti Pot (Leee), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 17:06 (ten years ago)
as far as the iron islands go, euron greyjoy has been cast for season 6, but what the show, or indeed grrm, are planning to do with him is a mystery to me. and casting someone sadly kills this bizarre theory: https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/253zbx/
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 17:22 (ten years ago)
Hey you never know, maybe they're just re-casting Daario again.
― Falconetti Pot (Leee), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 17:46 (ten years ago)
Sparkle Motion fwiw I agree the Iron Islands stuff gets an unfair rap.
― resulting post (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 18:07 (ten years ago)
one of the things I've enjoyed overall is the various takes on religious fanaticism. Also interesting is thus far only the red god seems to have the true religion. I don't think any of the other gods have come through for anybody, at least to my recollection.

The Many-faced God seems to be doing pretty well

The Old Gods have basically turned Bran into the NSA by giving him access to a wide-ranging "CC Tree V network" right

On a similar track, I wonder how much of a connection some of these families have to their sigils. The Starks obviously have a bond with dire wolves and Targs with Dragons, but do the Lannisters have some psychic connection to lions? can Greyjoys summon krakens?

¡proper book spoilers! so much for the mystery of ramsay's letter.

I suppose I no longer care about the differences between book and show but fuuuuuuuuck seeing stannis and myrcella go was p surprising

so tell me what's different in the 10th episode than in the books?and did mama stark actually come back as a zombie?
― like a giraffe of nah (forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 June 2015 08:35 (ten years ago)
yea she does and honestly it's kinda dumb I'm glad it didn't end up in the show
stannis death is non-book (thus far, and when it comes i don't think it will be brienne delivering it for various reasons)
― slothroprhymes, Monday, 15 June 2015 10:58 (ten years ago)
Lady Stark/Stoneheart stuff sounded like a real highlight to me.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 15 June 2015 11:29 (ten years ago)
In the books I was super convinced snow would warg into his wolf before death and be conserved there till red lady does something restorative to him. There was telegraphing iirc with shortly before the murder some wildling dude showing up and warging conspicuously. Show rly makes it look graveyard final but I still bet on the melisandre get out of hell free card.
― demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Monday, 15 June 2015 12:18 (ten years ago)
The mystery of Jon's parents hangs over the books pretty heavily which is why he can't actually die. Him, tyrion and dany felt like the unkillable characters
― ciderpress, Monday, 15 June 2015 12:40 (ten years ago)
my guess on books vs show fwiw: in the books jon wargs into his wolf and then ends up resurrected as a human again (melisandre has been seeing jon in her visions and at one point sees a man who becomes a wolf who becomes a man again) but in the show they are just going to streamline and skip the wolf part
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 15 June 2015 12:41 (ten years ago)
i think they drew out the last shot of his death to mess with book ppl waiting for him to say "ghost"
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 15 June 2015 12:47 (ten years ago)
Roberto yes that's exactly what I think they'll do in the show
― demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Monday, 15 June 2015 13:01 (ten years ago)
yeah, once i saw that Melisandre was back at Castle Black, I figured she would resurrect him
― let he who has not approved of the ronaldinho bottle opener cast the (sarahell), Monday, 15 June 2015 18:29 (ten years ago)
It doesn't seem that there is any good reason to kill Jon off entirely. All the other major character deaths were interesting because of how everyone had to react and the new dynamics that filled the void. Not enough story elements around Jon get disturbed with his death. He's on a much longer arc that I believe will continue with him back in the picture at some point.
― Evan, Monday, 15 June 2015 18:43 (ten years ago)
~jon snow~ is definitely dead yup yup. long live azor ahai hm hm...

― let he who has not approved of the ronaldinho bottle opener cast the (sarahell), Monday, 15 June 2015 18:48 (ten years ago)
he's supposedly a more powerful worger than Bran, yet we've seen little evidence of that. Maybe this plot point forces him to step up his body riding skills
