really enjoyed how the meereen scene was done on a much larger/more interesting scale visually than it is in the books while it's also way less busy in terms of plot - eliminating the tedious "did hizdahr mean to give her poison locusts or didn't he etc. etc." thing, it was much more effective that way.

that said also reminds me of how there's no strong belwas!

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 19:28 (ten years ago)

strong belwas was a pretty good bit player

a silly gif of awkward larping (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 8 June 2015 19:29 (ten years ago)

Feel like his presence would have tipped a lot of the Meereen scenes into absurdity but at the same time without him and especially now without Selmy, Dany feels ridiculously exposed.

tsrobodo, Monday, 8 June 2015 19:35 (ten years ago)

true and shortly to have only tyrion and big homie daario protecting her what w jorah's incipient death

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 19:37 (ten years ago)

Grey Worm was probably supposed to make up the difference but having no stand in with everybody besides fake heartthrob dude gone seems like an easily fixable oversight.

I'm thinking that as they get closer to the end of the books staging scenes and introducing new characters in ways that don't cause confusion or mess with future continuity becomes painfully difficult. It's clear that GRRM puts a lot of thought into the little things so not having a chunky text there as a blueprint for how the details pan out has really shown in how loose the plotting has felt at times.

tsrobodo, Monday, 8 June 2015 19:56 (ten years ago)

Boring season, all that I'm looking forward to now is to see if Dany gets the runs.

Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 04:50 (ten years ago)

treason to talk about a khaleesi like that.

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 04:58 (ten years ago)

so next episode is Cersei walk of shame, Sansa/Theon escape into Camp Stannis, and Jon gets stabbed ?

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 06:48 (ten years ago)

that's what i've been assuming, although they haven't really done much to build towards the sansa/theon escape.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 10:52 (ten years ago)

brienne will be involved somehow i imagine?

max, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 13:42 (ten years ago)

Brienne will eat Theon

DJP, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 13:44 (ten years ago)

it's gonna need a lot of set up in the episode one way or another. as far as we are aware brienne is sitting on her hands waiting to see a candle.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 13:55 (ten years ago)

future plot Q: can the lord of light bring theon's cock back?

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 13:56 (ten years ago)

a god who can't or won't regenerate a severed penis isn't worth wasting your time worshipping imo

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 14:03 (ten years ago)

reasonable perspective

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 14:12 (ten years ago)

Theon's cock will grow back but it will be made entirely of flames

DJP, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 14:53 (ten years ago)

shadowcock

Evan, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 15:15 (ten years ago)

Theon's cock will look just like Stannis'

This was because he accidentally grabbed Bengay cream

Evan, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 15:44 (ten years ago)

Non-readers really missing out on this trenchant discussion, I feel sorry for them.

Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 16:54 (ten years ago)

varys balls being harshly ignored here (is he really done this season?)

nashwan, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 17:31 (ten years ago)

I think there's a strong possibility he goes back to king's landing to kill at least one of the two people he kills at the end of ADWD, or at the very least to foment discord in some fashion

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 17:34 (ten years ago)

Now that Shireen is burned what's gonna happen with the Gendry plotline? Is he ever coming back

, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 17:42 (ten years ago)

lol

resulting post (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 17:48 (ten years ago)

varys killing kevan would be a bit of an anticlimax if only bc k3v has been on screen for abt 30 seconds in the show as a whole. though with cersei's walk there's a chance they could reintroduce him in the finale and do away with him too.

Clay, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 19:45 (ten years ago)

dorne stuff must figure in significantly next season/next book -- otherwise what was the point?

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 19:51 (ten years ago)

Yeah, I kinda wonder as well when I see people disappointed in Dorne this season. What in the books made everyone excited to see Dorne?

Frederik B, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 19:58 (ten years ago)

dorne is the most significant political player involved in the targaryen restoration effort so i imagine it will have a v central role when dany and the fly in

fuck knows what the deal with the other supposed targ kid will be tho

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 19:59 (ten years ago)

seemed bigger than it is / more desert-y / more of a 'power' that could contend with King's Landing rather than just a handful of sand snakes and the gout guy

, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:00 (ten years ago)

the show hasn't had the time or will to establish dorne and doran in the way the books did. even the books sort of took a while to get round to it. the targ plans reveal did a huge amount to make the dorne stuff seem less dumb and inconsequential in the books and that'll eventually happen in the show i expect.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:05 (ten years ago)

But didn't the tart-plans sorta get eaten by a dragon over in Mereen? Nothing seemed to come from that either...

Frederik B, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:08 (ten years ago)

Targ-plans, stupid auto-correct.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:08 (ten years ago)

then there's also the arianne plan and the whole jon connington thing

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:09 (ten years ago)

the books are fine as far as dorne stuff goes. the show will obv need to make significant new adjustments to keep it relevant

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:10 (ten years ago)

i thought he got burned alive in the dragon storage dungeon

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:18 (ten years ago)

regardless of the success of any particular element of their plans, the fact that dorne is on board with restoring the targs is the key thing. although admittedly it is harder to see how they will gain with potential marriables in either family dying off. maybe arianne will marry dany. i refuse to believe the new targ on the block will play any role of significance.

it seems like one way or another dorne is being established as the foundation of dany's support when she returns.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:21 (ten years ago)

xp quentyn did, arianne is still alive and en route to meet the kid who may or may not be aegon VI

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:21 (ten years ago)

It makes sense dorne is hot and so are dragons

, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:22 (ten years ago)

xp both characters have been eliminated from the show so ... ?

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:24 (ten years ago)

right, i was saying i had no idea what the show is gonna do with doran, like i figure he'll tell ellaria he has a long game at work but given what they have to work with in the show idk what that could end up being.

slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:27 (ten years ago)

with what is going on currently, the only thing i can think of is changing the rules and having marcylla rule rather than thommen, which would make trystan king ...

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:28 (ten years ago)

hmm, hadn't really thought about the implications of that particular change. yeah, i have no fucking clue what they are up to.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:29 (ten years ago)

xp both characters have been eliminated from the show so ... ?

Ellaria is Arianne now though.

Also, yeah, Prince Aegon probably not actually a Targaryen.

Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:33 (ten years ago)

Ellaria can't be Arianne in terms of marriage plotting and empire building

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:36 (ten years ago)

At least as far as Sand Snake goading and "Doran, we want revenge ASAP come on" go, they're fulfilling similar functions.

Falconetti Pot (Leee), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:39 (ten years ago)

So if more Dorne-plans were to happen next season - or last episode this year - would people stop being disappointed in Dorne?

Frederik B, Tuesday, 9 June 2015 20:51 (ten years ago)
