no way will they just kill cersei, it would be v anticlimactic & not the show's sucker punch style at all - if they were going to kill her she'd have a much more hopeful arc at the moment not crying lapping water off the floor. I think she'll break & fuck over jaime in the process. high sparrow wld much rather have the power of breaking her than the risks of killing her

Yeah I think Daenerys riding Drogon away was just as much for his safety as it was hers. He's technically still a baby.

Balerion was the largest of the dragons used to conquer Westeros but he'd been growing for over a century and Dany's dragons don't have that kind of time.

Complaining about shoddy SFX feels weirdly passé to me unless we're talking Scorpion King 2 or Nollywood bad.

is dany waiting for the dragons to grow up more before trying to take over westeros? it became really clear to me this episode (tho really this has been a good question for a while) that dany is stalling for time until the narrative is ready for her to invade. so now she has all this free time to preside over the fighting pits and squabble w/ local sectarian religious groups, etc. but it can't be doing wonders for her army to have them being whittled away by all these ambushes just to- what? - return some level of stability to this city she conquered? she should take her army while it's still pretty strong, load them up, and march into westeros. it's not like the timing is going to get better.

she talked about breaking the wheel which should really mean there being no iron throne/central seat of power - maybe her 'plan' is to take it then immediately destroy it and fly off

ok but still what better time to swoop in and break the wheel than now? why wait another year or two for her armies to erode further? afaict she's not like actively recruiting new infantry.

She just lost two of her three best warriors and her strongest dragon almost got murdered by a bunch of nobodies. I don't think the timing is quite right atm

I think Dany's army is far too small at this point to match the forces of Westeros, which is why she's banking on popular support. She views freeing this city as a sort of testing ground, where she shows the commoners what kind of queen she will be.

and if the unsullied are exceptional in the field of combat and terrible at asymmetrical urban warfare - maybe ditch the urban occupation and utilize their strengths?

maybe this is just a story about how an occupying power with the best of intentions cannot compete w/ an indigenous, guerrilla organization. do we even get the sense that dany is acting aggressively towards putting down this rebellion? it seems like she's spending all her time watching battles and getting married and not enough time conducting midnight raids in parts of the city sympathetic to the revolution.

think the issue is, and was raised here before, that this army of masked dudes is kind of unbelievable. where were these guys, for ex, when all these cities were being taken over by lightly armed, recently liberated, and (most notably perhaps) untrained former slaves? seems like they are this limitless supply of highly trained assassins that just materialized to present a challenge (i.e. weak writing)

Her government has been really bad at identifying the bodies of the people who were trying to kill her. You'd think they could trace a few of them back to their families?

seems like a thousand guys attended a heavily guarded arena with masks proving they're part of a rebellion army stuck in their capes and the omnipresent militia didn't notice at all, no biggie

don't get me wrong though: i think getting indignant about those kind of plot inconsistencies is sorta pointless. like, there's a fucking dragon in this, it's okay if there's some hard-to-believe construction in the storyline.
but that applies to the whole STANNIS IS DEAD TO ME stuff too; dude has been burning people from jump and they telegraphed this coming for three episodes. ;

I think it's pretty lol that people warmed to Stannis after a couple of scenes of him not being a complete prig

i mean i will not discount the possibility of being totally wrong thinking there's a real reason & the show just flipping the script/allowing them to be the subject of ambushes for lazy writing reasons, but the show is generally well-plotted/thought out esp. re: world building and detail shit (if not always plot) so i figured there was an in-world reason. friend of in conversation also suggested that having their freedom (such as it is) for some time now could've made them a bit out of practice?

but of course could just be yadda-yaddaing to get to the next point on dany's map route. then again if it gets us out of meereen not the worst thing? lol

unsullied just need to get some swords instead of those sticks

maybe tyrion will invent guns

he'll unveil them at the next fighting pit tournament with the words "WELCOME TO THE GUN SHOW"

you don't need to be bailed out by your flying dragon if your army of dickless wonders are actually wonders i guess
this has been, in general, an off season but hey: zombie fight in the /with the snow! that buys you several hours of patience.

realize i just contradicted myself bc i did not proofread before clicking post - better phrasing: the story is well told and the world well built but the moment to moment gears of plot can sometimes jam. something like this could be an example of that and benioff/weiss are just like "ehhh let's just get through the next pages" when they come to minor but annoying snags

The Stannis thing is also hilarious; basically because dude was nice to his daughter, half the viewers forgot that he's a total Tywin/Roose-style bastard who is in it for the power.

The unsullied were a slave army working for some lame regional warlord. They're tough, but they're not legendary badasses.

it's to the show's credit that it can continue to shock + anger viewers. it's not really to the viewers' credit tho.

stannis and sheerin relaysh was the second time there was a moderately heartwarming exchange between a father and a scorned offspring, followed shortly thereafter by the father at least trying to kill them (tywin and tyrion the other iirc)
