Surprised how few folks wear hats tbh. Hard to see pretty actor faces I guess.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 June 2015 21:27 (eleven years ago)

the standard wildling outfit features a hooded jacket, the Stark women wore cloaks with hoods, my logic doesn't require a hat per se, but some form of head covering, which the Thenns don't appear to wear at all

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Thursday, 4 June 2015 21:42 (eleven years ago)

yeah hats don't scan well on tv is the reason no one wears hats in the cold xp

Clay, Thursday, 4 June 2015 21:44 (eleven years ago)

that is of course nonsense loads of historical dramas are full of hats

ogmor, Thursday, 4 June 2015 22:30 (eleven years ago)

the thenn are probably warm all the time from eating human flesh

, Thursday, 4 June 2015 22:48 (eleven years ago)

it's really fatty and goes right to your forehead.

so - the more i look at that gif upthread from a few days ago – the more it looks like there's a dragon off in the distance.

― AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall)

Nah. Watched that scene again last night on big TV and it's just shadows on the smoke

groovypanda, Friday, 5 June 2015 07:53 (eleven years ago)

the dragons you don't see are the scariest

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Friday, 5 June 2015 13:57 (eleven years ago)

Upon rewatching I wondered if Jon, Tormund and friends constantly had their eyes on the boats in case they were all taken before they could leave.
Wondered why people were punching each other when the dead started attacking. It didn't look like they were just trying to get past each other. Maybe some were trying to restrain others from going towards the wights?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 5 June 2015 21:04 (eleven years ago)

Punching each other? When was this?

Evan, Friday, 5 June 2015 22:33 (eleven years ago)

when they were arguing about whether or not a scrap of tarp was actually an ice dragon

Οὖτις, Friday, 5 June 2015 22:34 (eleven years ago)

When the wights started attacking and most were leaving in boats, Jon and that wildling woman had to hit aggressors to get up towards the gate. Not clear why they were fighting. I guess either they wanted everyone to leave quickly as possible or they were wildlings who were against what Jon and co were doing generally that day.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 5 June 2015 22:50 (eleven years ago)

I think they were just trying to go upstream in a frantic crowd of wildlings that were desperate to get on the boats.

Evan, Friday, 5 June 2015 22:52 (eleven years ago)

BTW they were also fighting wights that had already made it past the gate.

Evan, Friday, 5 June 2015 22:54 (eleven years ago)

prob just punching while the punchings good

lag∞n, Friday, 5 June 2015 22:56 (eleven years ago)

calstars, Monday, 8 June 2015 02:55 (eleven years ago)

maybe the worst episode of the series?

calstars, Monday, 8 June 2015 02:56 (eleven years ago)

q to people who know westeros medicine - is jorah giving everyone greyscale?

Merdeyeux, Monday, 8 June 2015 03:08 (eleven years ago)

I'm pretty sure you have to touch the infection directly.

Evan, Monday, 8 June 2015 03:15 (eleven years ago)

welp that broke the episode 9 streak pretty definitively

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Monday, 8 June 2015 03:37 (eleven years ago)

i don't like Stannis anymore.

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 8 June 2015 03:49 (eleven years ago)

Not really clear on what the fire "tells" him as a result of the sacrifice...

"Show us the way"

So either they're trying to get the god of fire to say "thataway" in a literal sense, or otherwise somehow except it to show them how to win?

"OK thanks for the child sacrifice. yeesh... anyway, so what you do is take 500 men to flank up north. Then, fire some arrows over the southern ridge, cause... (etc)"

Or does it just give a vague magic 8 ball answer to their vague question? Would it just show an image of Stannis sitting in Winterfell giving the thumbs up?

Evan, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:01 (eleven years ago)

i don't think it was meant to show them anything. it's a sacrifice sacrafice, that's meant to assure him victory or kill his enemies through a really bad flu or a falling satellite or something like that.

AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 8 June 2015 04:20 (eleven years ago)

are you not entertained

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:26 (eleven years ago)

brutal but gr8 episode imo

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:27 (eleven years ago)

then again I've been in the tank for most of this season aside from episode 6 bc I do not pick the nits

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:28 (eleven years ago)

xps upthread yes you need to be in direct physical contact with active greyscale (stannis can touch shireen's face bc her infection is gone, only disfigurement remains

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:30 (eleven years ago)

I guess I'm just going by the previous "visions in the fire" stuff. Figured it worked the same here.

Xposts

Evan, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:31 (eleven years ago)

the idea is that it would both provoke a precise vision and also influence the outcome. like think of it as the equivalent to juicing in sports

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:34 (eleven years ago)

while also reading the opposing team's playbook and getting live advice from a genius ex-coach

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:35 (eleven years ago)

respect stannis for going for the gold

lag∞n, Monday, 8 June 2015 04:52 (eleven years ago)

at this point I know nothing - they're entirely off-book w his plotline so the following is CATEGORICALLY NOT a spoiler - but calling it now shit is gonna end real bad for stannis

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 05:00 (eleven years ago)

that ep was p fn dire all around

lag∞n, Monday, 8 June 2015 05:01 (eleven years ago)

i hope stannis is successful that wld really be the darkest possible turn the show cld take

lag∞n, Monday, 8 June 2015 05:03 (eleven years ago)

never ending story otm
this one kinda sucked.
incidentally, the whole badassery of the unsullied has been pretty much completely undone by general plot pushing. These guys suck as bodyguards

like a giraffe of nah (forksclovetofu), Monday, 8 June 2015 05:11 (eleven years ago)

they were never billed as being individually brilliant to a man the whole idea is that they're excellent as giant groups in infantry combat, they have said that from jump

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 05:16 (eleven years ago)

some like grey worm are pretty solid in single combat but many are not bc they're used to being part of a unit, and folks seem to be getting very literalist about their whole style idgi

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 05:17 (eleven years ago)

point being, an ambush is not really where soldiers who function best as a large collective siege weapon is going to shine and that is basically the whole idea! like it was in the alley

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 05:20 (eleven years ago)

*are going

slothroprhymes, Monday, 8 June 2015 05:22 (eleven years ago)

u crazy for this one, stannis

Clay, Monday, 8 June 2015 06:27 (eleven years ago)

i mean, it's as classic as classic gets, but iirc things didn't work out great for agamemnon

resulting post (rogermexico.), Monday, 8 June 2015 07:03 (eleven years ago)

i hate dorne

polyphonic, Monday, 8 June 2015 07:09 (eleven years ago)

this episode was laughably bad. what has actually happened this season? p much nothing and even the massive ep last week was just the white walkers doing something.

the dragon riding looked awful and was just cheesy generally. and yeah, dorne is just a farce, did they really have to do all that just so the prince of dorne goes to westeros?

most storylines are just going around in circles, like just as arya is about to do something she ends up in one eyed-jack's, daenarys is still just dealing with the same shit of how to rule, over and over again. stannis is stuck where he is so onion knight has to go back to castle black to ask for another episode's worth of an alliance with the knight's watch. presumably that'll happen so they get to actually have something happen in the finale.

worst season so far by a long way.

this review is absolutely hilarious - from the amazing opening punchline all the way through.

Lol at that review "You guys ruined Stannis for me!"

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Monday, 8 June 2015 12:58 (eleven years ago)

Maybe Stannis can go on a quest with some misfit and we'll forgive the child murder like with the King Slayer

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Monday, 8 June 2015 13:00 (eleven years ago)

...who returned to King's Landing only to rape his sister-lover in front of the cold corpse of his nephew-son...

So do we really think Jorah gave Daenerys a House In Valyria?

tsrobodo, Monday, 8 June 2015 13:29 (eleven years ago)

Lol at that review "You guys ruined Stannis for me!"

it's the way they keep going back to it over and over. it reads like an onion opinion piece entitled "I will never accept the sacrifice of Stannis's daughter".

I’m getting angrier as I write. It’s a thoroughly cruel and stupid decision on the part of Weiss and Benioff. The worst they’ve made in the entire show’s run. If I were more prone to rage-quitting, I might rage quit now and be done with this nonsense. As it stands, well, I still enjoy the show quite a lot. I still like what they’ve done, changes and all, even if I hate this change.

And besides, I’m a critic first and foremost and a fan second in this role. As a fan, I will swallow this bitter pill and move forward. As a critic I can do little more than shake my head at the utter horror not just of this scene, but of the showrunners’ decision. What a joke.

time to move on. or is it...

Perhaps his death will be one of the few happy things we get this season, which has become so utterly bleak thanks to the stupid, stupid decision of the show’s writers to have Stannis kill his own daughter.

Granted, Stannis killed his own brother, but he had no real fondness or love for his siblings. The only place his cold exterior ever chipped and melted was in the presence of his daughter, and he let the Red Priestess kill her. But I digress.

later

I kind of like this change, minus a few quibbles with the whole lack of basic security measures thing. It’s certainly a better change than Shireen being murdered by her father at the stake

What did you think of the episode? Am I overreacting to Shireen’s death?

i mean i get that it was a horrible scene but the fact was this episode was too shit for it to have the impact it deserved.
