I'd hate to not see the final episode, but I dropped it after the first 3. Is there some stuff I need to know if I go in blind, or should I just suck it up and watch the episodes I didn't?

(S6 episodes, that is...I was all caught up to this season in case that wasn't clear.)

honestly no, just know that the last few episodes of the season focus on Jeff's fear of being abandoned and left behind as a general theme

but c'mon man, it's season six! i think there were plenty of funny moments to make the season worth "toughing" out. i say suck it up JF

The last month or so was probably the most consistent of the season? Really it's all pretty good from the grifting episode on.

yeah they hit a nice groove by the end. the structure of the finale irritated me but still a lot of good moments.

Second half of S6 was pretty funny, they worked out how to integrate Elroy and Frankie and just ran from there. The run from the giant hand through to Garrett's wedding was very enjoyable.

If you're going to catch up I'd probably recommend the first half of S5 though, before Troy leaves - that run is really good and pretty close to recapturing the form of the series imperial phase IMO. The show lost a lot of heart when Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown left and didn't quite work out how to recapture that - they shouldn't even try to make the movie without both of them involved.

Towards the end I found myself extremely irritated with Harmon's habit of making meta jokes about the show's obvious faults rather than addressing them, but on balance I'm glad S6 exists.

I didn't watch this season due to being busy. I really wish they'd just ended it after Season 3. 5 was p good but nothing like the prime. I'll probably watch it eventually. what were the best eps?

While I got alot of enjoyment out of this season, I would not be sad if it ended here. Season 6 had a very fan-fictiony spin-off vibe to it, and it felt more off and forced than even season 4. Harmon keeps getting thrown second chances to continue but has never used them to actually bring any closure to the story, and if his plan is to just drag this out for as long as he can keep the actors attached, then it needs to end.

i agree, but i'll give them credit in that it does feel like the end for Annie and Abed. it would be a tough sell, even worse than the last time, to have them come back to Greendale after that. With Abed's storyline especially, it felt like he was ready to go - he made a "real" movie and all, seriously at the end of his rope with all the meta stuff, Troy being gone, etc. Annie's FBI exit was rather ill-planned in comparison

The show can end here just as well - by season 6 tends you feel the death point of most great sitcoms anyway - though I would like a movie just to wrap up Troy and LeVar Burton's storyline (as well as Shirley and Malcolm Jamal-Warner... and whatever happened to Chang's ex-wife?)

I assume she just disappeared into the ether that is the world off the Greendale Campus...

I would still like there to be a movie, or some sort of one-off special like the Christmas Special of the Office. A "movie" opposed to a whole new season would be the best bet in being able getting as much of the main cast back together again. John Oliver and Chevy are never going to come back, and I guess Jonathan Banks is a no go, but we should at least get closure with Troy and Shirley in the fold.

Wasn't this basically the equivalent of creating a cable network that only had one show? I wonder why that didn't work out for them.

I think they actually had three or four shows. That terrible Sin City Saints with Malin Akerman and the surprisingly good Other Space. And another one I'm forgetting.

This is the path I expect to see many of these stupid balkanized streaming services taking until they wise up and realize that they need to join forces instead of living in an imaginary fairyland where people shell out for twelve different versions of Netflix every month. And this one wasn't even a paid service.

Ha, wow, I honestly didn't realize there was s6. I still love the first two seasons.

Oh, I mean 5 and 6 then. Was a good 3 year gap between the end of 4 and the last couple but I enjoyed them.

I hope Chevy never listens to the commentary tracks...

yeah, 5 and 6 are very good and funny for how beleagured the productions were. both of them are more like reboots than continuations - I think composer Ludwig Goransson was the only person who continued across all seasons? - and 6 is a separate reboot from 5.

The first half of season 5 is great, but it really loses some heart after Troy left. By the time they got to 6 it was really obvious that the whole thing was being propped up way after the end of its natural lifespan, and it just fizzled out at the end.

Natural lifespan of a community college education = 2 years

They're hit-and-miss but definitley better than S4. That season's a whole different deal, no Harmon and all that.

Keith David and Paget Brewster, along with a (mostly) more relaxed tone make season 6 really great, imo.

Just finished season three again and wow it is so obvious that Donald Glover had a compressed schedule so they just filmed all the air conditioner repair school stuff in one go and slotted it around the rest.
