i so feel like a lot of ppl who disparage twitter argue that the form is bad when they really just don't like its users

here are the things i have found twitter valuable for:
* Complaining to corporations with twitter presences
* Following record labels that don't have RSS feeds
* Following bars in Philadelphia that announce when they're tapping something new
* That's it

corporate complainers are my least favorite class of twitter user tbh

surely they're preferable to rap critics

1 problem with twitter the platform: sometimes it's really hard to follow conversations, even if you follow everyone involved. you click the "see 10 more messages in this conversation" or whatever, and it's like, obviously there were more than 10 in there. not sure why that happens but i know people who start replies with .@ instead of @ can fuck the whole operation up

if i could import the 5 ppl i actually care about following as RSS feeds i would never have to open twitter.com again

i use twitter to favorite nba vines for future ref and to get info on emerging basketball news and for no other purpose

i also espouse all other forms of social media as insidious tools that have eroded a generation's ability to find value in privacy but that's for another thread

if ur directing a complaint @ their account using it like customer service fine but twitter/irl famous ppl who make general tweets complaining abt whatever rental car company theyre mad at hoping to extort them via bad publicity are shameful

Xp espouse totally wrong word meant to say ignore need to sleep and stop posting in equal measure

comedy corporate @'s are good tho

some companies respond so much quicker to @'s on twitter than traditional emails. obv i'd prefer to never expose any details of my personal life to twitter but when you need a response...

yeah its p difficult interaction design problem, look at all the weird hackish devices we use on ilx (quoting, xp), and twitter is more complex, my feeling is the conversations work fine for the ppl who are having them but observing them is not great

the privacy shit is real though warn your children: i foolishly used my non-common government name when setting up twitter so i had to change my handle, but all these stupid sub-twitter sites like tweettunel.com archived my shit X-(

it was an attack on shakey mo / ryan for not knowing how ppl use twitter, but as far as a description of twitter it was neutral

i agree that it is a good place for links but 'power users' arent RSS feeds, they tend to interact more, it's a place for getting instant feedback

you guys are misunderstanding my twitter position, which is not that it's entirely good or bad, but that i think ppl are being too bullish itt about it & not recognizing the obv downsides that annoy me personally/professionally/productively about the platform

Otm i think that is partly what is addictive about it, feels like you're presenting yourself publicly to important ppl or something

drama llamas are my personal least favorite group of twitter users

its fun to research a twitter drama

i'm on it a fair bit for work-related purposes and it's very useful but exhausting

I'd been having months of problems with ACA health insurance bureaucratic nonsense until l started tweeting at @coveredca. Everything was cleared up in a week afterward.

I hate having to yell like that, but it did work.

i think it's ridiculous that major corporations believe twitter complaints are much more important than traditional customer service but as long as they do i will use whatever venue works
