also the remaining kingsguard are largely useless

slothroprhymes, Monday, 25 May 2015 22:20 (eleven years ago)

when people were saying at the beginning of the season that religion was going to start playing a bigger part on the show, I didn't know that meant religious dudes were going to take over and put everyone in dungeons

This show has totally turned into of Game of Goth. Someone should do a parody in the style of Hammer.

its more abt authority than physical might, kings landing is basically experiencing a power vacuum cause the king is a little kid and the hand of the king is impulsive and cruel, i may be giving the show too much credit tho

Easily the best of the season, gives me hope they'll pull it round.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 09:19 (eleven years ago)

The piling on of misery is just wearing, tho.

Too much credit? I mean it's pretty clear that's what they're going for. The scenes in King's Landing have always explored power dynamics on some level.

They haven't done too much heavy signposting here but #occupybaelorscrypt has been pretty on the nose.

In a similar vein to what you were saying, Jamie as somebody that administers violence as his day job would have instinctively understood why arming the faith militant is an insanely bad idea when they draw from a much larger and less controllable recruiting pool (poor people) than the Kingsguard and gold cloaks (people the crown can afford to pay).

tsrobodo, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:05 (eleven years ago)

The only scenes I really liked in this episode were those between the High Sparrow and Diana Rigg/Cersei. Jonathan Pryce is a great addition to the cast, and I'm now kind of on his side in wanting to overthrow the corrupt nobility.

He's clearly actually a bit of a wanker though.

idg the sand snakes or that weird scene in the cells, but at least they didn't kill off Bronn

painfully alive in a drugged and dying culture (DavidM), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:37 (eleven years ago)

idg the sand snakes

They are good at killing people, also hot.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:42 (eleven years ago)

Anyway they and Bronn are probably going to team up and escape.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:42 (eleven years ago)

Most of that scene makes sense eventually if you give it enough thought but then you ask yourself why you're working so hard to justify tits on HBO.

tsrobodo, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 10:57 (eleven years ago)

Actually I predict her and Bronn are going to get it on, and he'll have to choose between her and a quiet life in a big castle with his frumpy bride.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 11:05 (eleven years ago)

Clearly they're setting up a spin-off with Bronn and the Sand Snakes solving crimes and generally getting into mischief in Dorne.

So I'm guessing Diana Rigg is going to move in and become Tommen's adviser in the absence of anyone else who can help him.

great to see Sansa standing up to Ramsay also. she now has a weapon, it seems.

Ramsay not running a tight ship, corkscrews lying around all over the place.

it's also possible that this is just the beginning of Sansa's long struggle with alcoholism

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 17:13 (eleven years ago)

Maybe I should remember Pycelle. He definitely felt threatened by the way things were going and he might spring into action.

Going to be a bit of a u-turn given she was previously talking about starving everyone in King's Landing, which would really not work to the benefit of a 13-year old king with no advisors who just wants to have sex five times a night. But given she's back on Team Littlefinger it's highly likely she will, given he is hardly one to look a gift king in the mouth.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 11:45 (eleven years ago)

Going to be a bit of a u-turn given she was previously talking about starving everyone in King's Landing

She was really pissed off when she said that, don't think she ever meant to go through with it.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 12:03 (eleven years ago)

I agree she was pissed off, which to me means she REALLY meant to go through with it.

DJP, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 13:27 (eleven years ago)

It was the second time she's talked about it in two episodes, I'm pretty sure she'd go ahead with it, given she, y'know, KILLED THE KING.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 13:29 (eleven years ago)

I didn't make the connection it was Jonathan Pryce playing the high sparrow(sp?) - haven't seen him in anything since Brazil.

p:s nerds know (dog latin), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 13:32 (eleven years ago)

The last time I saw him was playing Cardinal Wolsey in Wolf Hall so it was a very small leap for my mind to make.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 13:37 (eleven years ago)

I like him in Glengarry Glenross.

Been meaning to go see him in Merchant Of Venice at The Globe too.

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 13:37 (eleven years ago)

xps
Important to remember who she was threatening there and what she was trying to achieve.

I don't doubt that if she truly believed starving the city would secure the release of her grandkids she'd do it but sparrow dude correctly points out why that would probably backfire.
