I don't get the fascination with the LOTR movies (the new versions look harmless to me) but this video has some good information on how older movies get new colors on modern releases.

This thread is making me nostalgic: teal, orange and gray were the colors in shops in 1999 when I was fifteen and buying my first set of Nice Grown-Up Clothes for a school exchange. I had a beautiful soft gray sweater from the Gap with bands of dark gray, dusty teal, and dusty orange on the sleeves. It was my favorite sweater for years until it tragically shrank in the wash.
