lag∞n, Tuesday, 19 May 2015 13:47 (eleven years ago)

btw guys i joined a gym and ive been lifting and even tho it hasnt been long im already def running with more power

lag∞n, Tuesday, 19 May 2015 13:49 (eleven years ago)

^ i bought dumbbells 3 months ago, mostly to do something about my sticklike arms, but it was definitely a help when i was lugging about my 3 ton backpack full of uneaten cake

yeovil knievel (NickB), Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:03 (eleven years ago)

yeah i had been doing the same for a while too but i feel like doing the heavy squats at the gym is whats making the difference

lag∞n, Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:05 (eleven years ago)

tho i have also been doing intervals on the treadmill every time too which is way more frequent than my usual dalliances w intervals prob has something to do with it too

lag∞n, Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:06 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:06 (eleven years ago)

unaeten caek

them squats are good for stabilising the knees, i would imagine

yeovil knievel (NickB), Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:08 (eleven years ago)

yeah prob true the whole back of my legs/glutes just feels stronger/more engaged/more explosive, totally shredded the hell out of a longish run last night was like whered that come from, core also feels a little more stable

lag∞n, Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:12 (eleven years ago)

ha, i have something to say about explosive glutes which will have to wait until later

yeovil knievel (NickB), Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:17 (eleven years ago)

(don't worry it's not a poop story)

yeovil knievel (NickB), Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:17 (eleven years ago)

(i have one of those too though)

yeovil knievel (NickB), Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:20 (eleven years ago)

i considered not writing that for fear of poop stories tbh lol

lag∞n, Tuesday, 19 May 2015 14:23 (eleven years ago)

as aforementioned, ran my first marathon today. 4:33:02. I experienced a wave of nausea I can't explain during the last three miles that cost me easily 10-15 mins, which is kinda vexing, but I'm OK with the time, all things considered. got lucky with the weather, a nice breeze and only about 45 mins of sun.

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Sunday, 24 May 2015 20:57 (eleven years ago)

Congrats! So when's the next one?

Jeff, Sunday, 24 May 2015 21:07 (eleven years ago)

oh simon well done!! had the wave of nausea at that stage myself - mostly due to heat, stress and things sloshing around in my stomach i think

yeovil knievel (NickB), Sunday, 24 May 2015 21:14 (eleven years ago)

oh god I can't think about the next one yet, I would like to be fitter and a better overall runner before that happens, as it stands I'm at least 25lbs overweight

I'm not sure what caused the nausea, I just know that for a few mins after I crossed the finish it was very difficult to breathe into my stomach.

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Sunday, 24 May 2015 21:22 (eleven years ago)

pretty much par for the course that, one of the hidden joys of running marathons

yeovil knievel (NickB), Sunday, 24 May 2015 21:28 (eleven years ago)

i ran 28.72 miles in may. i really only run 2 times a week. sometimes 3.

computer champion (harbl), Sunday, 31 May 2015 23:24 (eleven years ago)

I ran 96.1. Totally sucked this weekend and didn't run at all and feel like a complete waste because of it.

Just signed up for a one mile race though at the end of June. This probably won't end well. Haven't done any speed work in over 6 months.

Jeff, Monday, 1 June 2015 00:16 (eleven years ago)

how does one get started w/ speed work? thinking of signing up for a shorter race in the fall just to mix it up.

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Monday, 1 June 2015 01:46 (eleven years ago)

ive been doing mile repeats on the treadmill and i like it a lot, feel like its a good way to work on yr form u cn really feel whats most efficient, also like u cn go a set speed for a set distance, tho i dont run quite as fast as i wld on the normal ground cause i am afraid of getting thrown from the treadmill and killed like that tech ceo

also a good way to warm up for lifting

lag∞n, Monday, 1 June 2015 03:26 (eleven years ago)

honestly don't think I will ever do treadmill again, I did it all winter and going back to "real" running was hell, it was somehow worse than starting from scratch for some reason

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Monday, 1 June 2015 03:59 (eleven years ago)

u can do both tho

lag∞n, Monday, 1 June 2015 05:05 (eleven years ago)

Jesus fuck its worse than I remember

Killarney Hilton (darraghmac), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 18:04 (eleven years ago)

welcome back deems :)

irl friend of the geir (NickB), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 20:41 (eleven years ago)

Had been thinking about starting again tomorrow. Got a wild hair about it, the stars are aligned, whatever. But the forecast is for 95 degrees. I might go through with it anyway but goddamn.

how's life, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 20:56 (eleven years ago)

rip

lag∞n, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:09 (eleven years ago)

2.5km, yesterday and today, same planned for the morning. literally running to the bus ffs

Killarney Hilton (darraghmac), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:17 (eleven years ago)

start off easy, build slowly, you'll get there

irl friend of the geir (NickB), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:28 (eleven years ago)

I remember ya but I remember it all

its more that my commute is a particularly nice 7.5km more than I wanted to take up running again but all things considered I'm gonna stick at it while the weathers fine.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 July 2015 14:14 (ten years ago)

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 July 2015 14:18 (ten years ago)

spent the last couple of weeks on vacation in ireland. rained every day but weather was perfect for running, so I did a ton of it. capped it off with an epic trail run on the Kerry way between Kenmare and Killarney. Really, really cool and I highly recommend it!

tobo73, Monday, 20 July 2015 20:52 (ten years ago)

two weeks pass...

it's a year away, but i seem to have just entered this ridiculous race:

feargal czukay (NickB), Thursday, 6 August 2015 05:40 (ten years ago)

it's a single stage event but it does have a 4 day time limit, so plenty of time for dawdling along

feargal czukay (NickB), Thursday, 6 August 2015 05:43 (ten years ago)

A whole year, maybe I should sign up?

I'm at an interesting place with my running. Consistent, but not anywhere close to being competitive. I'm still pacing a local marathon training group on the weekend, we're up to a 15 mile long run. That's been good to get my out the door on Saturday and getting my run over before 9:00 AM. I'm running about 3 other times a week, with at least one, sometimes two speed workouts. Done some hill work and fartleks mainly, haven't really crushed any 200s to 800s recently. So I'm starting to get the feeling that I can ramp up the time and quality of workouts, but don't think I could PR at any distance at this point.

Still some PF pain, but it is about as light as it has been in quite some time.

Jeff, Thursday, 6 August 2015 12:36 (ten years ago)

Holy fuck @ that above race, y'all nuts

10 weeks to marathon the second - doing more cross training this time via exercise classes, which are nice and intense, but seem to have made my weight shoot up (without any change in appearance/how clothes fit etc). Annoying - I'd like to get to a better place w. overall strength but I'd also like to uh weigh less for this.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Sunday, 9 August 2015 06:31 (ten years ago)

I've had some promising speed workouts in the last month. A couple of 3 mile tempo runs 2 weeks apart:

7/30 - 7:25, 7:32, 7:05
8/10 - 7:19, 7:17, 6:45

And a distance ladder interval run yesterday, 2 min rest between each interval:

0.26 - 1:35 (6:08 pace)
0.52 - 3:21 (6:28)
1.05 - 6:59 (6:40)
0.52 - 3:17 (6:20)
0.27 - 1:28 (5:28)

These were hard, but not miserable. Certainly not as fast as I was a year ago, but maybe I should run a all out 5K as a test. I can't PR, but maybe I could eek out a sub-20 again or at least get close to it.

Jeff, Thursday, 13 August 2015 15:27 (ten years ago)

Another 3 mile tempo last night: 6:52, 6:51, 6:26. Good improvement. I signed up for a 5K in a couple of weeks. Will need to get down to 6:15's to PR. Unlikely, but maybe within the realm of possibility.

Jeff, Tuesday, 25 August 2015 12:55 (ten years ago)

i think i moved to colorado and its so fn dry here+altitude that i prob have to start carrying water w me on long runs which is frankly my worst nightmare, whats the least bad water toting system plz dont say that thing that straps a bottle to yr hand ugh im so depressed abt this but i just totally fn bonked due to dehydration something that never happens to me in the humid east

lag∞n, Saturday, 29 August 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)

running midday in this sun may not have been the wisest either tbh but i just felt like it so there

lag∞n, Saturday, 29 August 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)

wait did u really move to colorado

jason waterfalls (gbx), Saturday, 29 August 2015 19:29 (ten years ago)

lag∞n, Saturday, 29 August 2015 20:22 (ten years ago)

6 weeks to marathon #2 and officially terrified all over again just looking at the fucking route

I seem to have a tendency to strain my right big toe, is this more likely a stride/technique issue or a shoe issue? I really do not need to fuck up my big toe.

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Saturday, 29 August 2015 20:23 (ten years ago)

I hope you win! Or at least do well.
