according to my analytics the term clickbait currently has the widest spread between perceived and actual profundity on the whole damn internet, amazing

am i wrong in feeling like a big part of his appeal is "he's just a schlubby looking guy trying to do the right thing" from a left-leaning pov? not just "it's funny bc it's true," but "i really relate to trying hard not to be a sexist + racist despite the programming of my culture."

that was the subtext of his racism bit on SNL i think. "i'm trying so hard not to be racist but those thoughts keep creeping in"

yeah, i thought that his schtick might just be his schtick but it supposedly comes from a place of actual self-examination and deconstruction, so if the allegations were true that's kinda bad news generally for self-examination and deconstruction vis-a-vis not being an asshole.

that ppl on ilx might think there are intellectual shortcut paths to either not being an asshole or to mitigate being an asshole should maybe not surprise one I guess, but attributing overmuch based on one post is always a danger

he's made himself the public face of admitting you're an asshole, it's supposed to help you stop that kind of behavior is what my takeaway from his act was.

like i'm aware that a performer's public face differs from his private one but a huge part of his act and appeal is that he connects the two; his stance i thought is that his comedy comes from a really personal space that he's fearlessly revealing to the public for the edification of us all

there's a lot of snark being thrown around re: CK's persona or whatever but there's been a lot of Louie that I've found to be unusually perceptive and even touching w/r/t modern masculinity, dating, aging, self-loathing, gender dynamics and especially parenting. that's why I find this aspect of him, if true (which it probably is - these things are almost never just made up for kicks) exceptionally depressing.

i have no problem believing that a long-married dude let back out on the single scene a comedy icon could be guilty of dirty talk/self-exposure presumptuousness. i mean there's a seinfeld episode about average joes incorrectly making that leap in logic. but if he's gone past that to blocking doors and acting like some playground creeper, that's really depressing. i hope it's not true, but at the same time, if it is, i don't give much of a shit how the word gets out.

i have to admit that the rumors mentioned here have kept me from wanting to see new episodes. i guess even though i'm skeptical about the veracity of the secondhand rumors posted by buzzfeed, they have kind of burrowed into tmy brain nonetheless. which is one reason it's irresponsible to post them, honestly.
