I mean, I can think of one scenario that rationalizes staging that scene the way they did, but that's a far cry from justifies.

def had a "why the fuck am i watching this" moment after that was over
― head clowning instructor (art), Monday, 18 May 2015 06:34 (eleven years ago)
yeah i was glad to switch to mad men
i dunno how i feel about it still. i hate that it even has to be a plot point in some ways, like fuck you all these creeps

Jorah Mormont is Don Draper, basically

i haven't read the books; but from what i'm to understand, what we saw was the cute n cuddly version. --AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall)
that is a fairly accurate description of the differences, although I had been dreading this scene all season regardless and it was still pleeeeenty disturbing
― slothroprhymes, Monday, 18 May 2015 13:14 (eleven years ago)
well, we certainly needed that scene otherwise we might think Ramsey was a good guy
― Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Monday, 18 May 2015 14:13 (eleven years ago)
he will likely have to die soon, and Sansa will be carrying his child (haven't read the books, purely speculation)
damn, those Arya scenes were poorly lit. I have no idea what she saw in that temple

for real? i thought that was the thing that worked best. she saw many faces.

Ha, are you implying that entire scene was almost completely dark for you? I think you need to adjust your TV!

ramsay seems bad
― lag∞n, Monday, 18 May 2015 14:51 (eleven years ago)
i keep wondering where he falls on the scale of evil, compared to joffrey. ramsay seems even crueler, somehow, to the poor souls he's able to interact with, but joffrey was almost as cruel in that way, and also had the opportunity to inflict misery on many more people than ramsay ever did.
i give them both a 9.9 out of 10.0, and i'm holding off on 10.0 because it's important to leave room to grow

can't something good happen to someone - like i dunno jaime's hand grows back or cersei meets an old college friend?
whole ep was just bad things happening and then here's a rape with a neutered tortured man forced to watch.
― bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Monday, 18 May 2015 18:33 (eleven years ago)
why are fictional depictions of sexual assault so much more difficult to watch than depictions of murder
― lag∞n, Monday, 18 May 2015 18:35 (eleven years ago)
maybe cos they're less prevalent?
― bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Monday, 18 May 2015 18:38 (eleven years ago)
yeah was thinking theres desensitization at work but im open to other theories too
― lag∞n, Monday, 18 May 2015 18:39 (eleven years ago)
bcz murder is cool i guess idk
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 18 May 2015 18:40 (eleven years ago)
cos we've all felt at some point "i'm so mad i could kill him/her"
― bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Monday, 18 May 2015 18:41 (eleven years ago)
but only on rare occasions would we get angry enough to want to assault someone sexually, eg christmas with relatives
feel like murder in fiction is rarely really murder its more usually a stand in for domination / power, idk if thats an essential thing or just a convention or what

But when Jaime had two hands he was an evil Disney prince.
But yeah the episode was pretty dark and hopeless feeling.
Jaime and Bronn sneaking around the Dorne gardens was cartoonish. Having them immediately locate his daughter/niece made the already small set feel smaller and any tension was lost as well. Then, to top it all off we get the horrible everything of the sand snakes showing up at the same time:

i guess killing and murder and death are kind of cornerstones for drama. rape is not a plot device in the same way, if you go back to your shakespeare or whatever there's killing everywhere but rape tends to be deployed to characterise someone as a true villain, relative to murderers.
― bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Monday, 18 May 2015 18:47 (eleven years ago)
So far everything about Dorne not named Oberyn has been goofy as all hell.Is it me or did Elaria Sand's accent grow even more outrageous this season from last?
― SCHLITZ MIXED BAG (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 18 May 2015 18:48 (eleven years ago)
Yeah Dorne seems like a v silly Aladdin sidebar

new adventures of hercules imo

Also that was probably the single worst fight they've ever staged, and this comes after the ridiculous Sons of the Harpy ambush.
― SCHLITZ MIXED BAG (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 18 May 2015 19:06 (eleven years ago)
Jaime and Bronn sneaking around the Dorne gardens was cartoonish
for what was painted as a suicidal mission it was sure going pretty smoothly, they just wandered in and had the bad fortune that the sand snakes were also there doing... whatever they were doing. bronn singing was a nice bit of fan service for we robson & jerome fans tho.

no I've left it up in my browser since you posted it - really, really bad
― SCHLITZ MIXED BAG (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 18 May 2015 19:18 (eleven years ago)
i agree, that was a stunningly dumb fight, poorly staged and occasionally nonsensical blocking and some clumsy editing in a desperate attempt to make up for it.
― “audience participation” otherwise known as “touching” (forksclovetofu), Monday, 18 May 2015 19:28 (eleven years ago)
sigh are we really nitpicking fight scenes again

i think the problem is that the show is showing its seems more often this season than ever before. maybe this means they blew their budget on the second half of the season? i hope so!
― ryan, Monday, 18 May 2015 19:34 (eleven years ago)
seams, christ!
― ryan, Monday, 18 May 2015 19:35 (eleven years ago)
like the only reason why that gif exists is bc someone took the time to pause it and capture it with the intention of being like, "see? SEE?!!! I SHOWED YOU, THRONES GUYS!" like what a brave truth-to-power stance against HBO gif-maker-person has made by isolating a shot that i and many ppl prob barely noticed!
― slothroprhymes, Monday, 18 May 2015 19:35 (eleven years ago)
I hardly think so. I was watching it last night and caught that sloppy shit.
― SCHLITZ MIXED BAG (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 18 May 2015 19:36 (eleven years ago)
We're mourning the inclusion of Xena: Warrior Princess meetings Ninja Turtles characters/acting/choreography invading our beloved and refreshingly gritty fantasy epic.
― Evan, Monday, 18 May 2015 19:36 (eleven years ago)
But I liked the Jorah/Tyrion scene. Made me miss old man Mormont. That dude was solid.
tbf it was not a great scene of action but i only really am thinking that upon rewatching, when the moment played for the first time the story situation was of greater import to me - which, for me, is the ultimate barometer for this sort of stuff
