Is the gold mine really empty? I thought it was just almost empty.

polyphonic, Monday, 11 May 2015 20:07 (eleven years ago)

if her castle is on top of a gold mine, why are they borrowing so much money from their allies and Braavos?

The crown's debt is the Tyrells' problem now imo.

polyphonic, Monday, 11 May 2015 20:08 (eleven years ago)

iirc its empty tywin told cersei last season

lag∞n, Monday, 11 May 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)

it's empty and has been for some time, which may have been tywin's only weakness (aside from not understanding that his dwarf son was his only decent thing) - he was always scrambling to make alliances and keep the lannister financial instability hidden

slothroprhymes, Monday, 11 May 2015 20:10 (eleven years ago)

I guess my point is that when winter comes having a bunch of cash won't matter that much.

polyphonic, Monday, 11 May 2015 20:13 (eleven years ago)

yup youd rather have food like the tyrells

lag∞n, Monday, 11 May 2015 20:14 (eleven years ago)

having stuff is only important if you have the ability to defend it.

polyphonic, Monday, 11 May 2015 20:16 (eleven years ago)

secretly hoping that cersei ends up getting hers stark style, i.e. immediately after watching what she assumes is her last living child get murdered by somebody insignificant like frey

that would be p sweet

really enjoyed this ep - agree with everyone saying stannis is a lot more likeable this year.

btw is jorah's arm the same condition that stannis's daughter has?

gonna get back dany's good graces for a little while before being banished again

cis-het shitlord (Merdeyeux), Monday, 11 May 2015 22:54 (eleven years ago)

feel like they haven't talked much about this, though iirc gilly said something about her sisters having it?

stannis's grammar frustration was a great moment - they are definitely pushing quite hard to make him more charismatic this season.

xpost jorah prob thinking: "what if she likes stone men? she doesn't, that's ridiculous. but what if she does?"

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Monday, 11 May 2015 22:54 (eleven years ago)

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 01:21 (eleven years ago)

Interesting to see that Roose is a fucking psycho. He always seemed more dispassionate than sick.

Ramsay is such a great looking guy.

Jon Snow itching to tell that boy that he killed his girlfriend Ygritte?

I presume being touched by stone men on your clothes is okay. From the debate I've seen, apparently Jorah is already able to infect other people. Hope they were wrong. Even in a cruel fantasy world I like some little bit of fairness and fighting chances.

I do prefer it when you get episodes focusing more time on less characters.

I have to figure the only reason Jorah isn't chopping off his own arm is that he needs it for the trip ahead

I feel like this is the first Ramsey episode in awhile where he wasn't chewing food and talking at the same time

I'm not sure why Stannis did nothing while Jon decided to let the wildlings loose -- didn't he just kill their leader for wanting to do that? Won't they want his head?

good episode btw

I enjoyed the parallel between this week's Roose Bolton father son moment and last week's Stannis father daughter moment

So what's next weeks touching father moment?!

<3 Stannis's grammar pedantry.

The scenes in the ruined city were amazing.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 12 May 2015 09:15 (eleven years ago)

It was funny watching this directly after the latest Mad Men where Don corrected a kid on his bad grammar a couple of times.

tayto fan (Michael B), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 09:38 (eleven years ago)

So the episode's title, Kill the Boy, is Westeros' equivalent saying for 'man up'?.

The director could have filmed the naked actress from a more flattering angle, rather than from the one where her you see hip bone jutting out. And setting up another jealous lover storyline, involving Sansa in the middle of it, just feels really blah. So, I hope they are not just doing that.
Though I did like Sansa's Silence of the Lambs walk down into the kennels.

Sam and Gilly bore me.

painfully alive in a drugged and dying culture (DavidM), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 10:35 (eleven years ago)

I don't think it was unflattering. Nothing wrong with a bit of jutting hipbone.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 12 May 2015 10:43 (eleven years ago)

The director could've also said 'Winterfell looks really fucking cold so no I don't think she would've just been looking out of the window nude however unhinged she's meant to be'.

nashwan, Tuesday, 12 May 2015 10:45 (eleven years ago)

might've had the central heating up full blast

cis-het shitlord (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 10:54 (eleven years ago)

Basking in the heat from Roose and Walda's own vigorous lovemaking next door.

nashwan, Tuesday, 12 May 2015 10:56 (eleven years ago)

I've always been curious about how they cast the Frey women and the girl Theon slept with on the boat. The Frey women are always regarded as ugly by other characters and Theon told the girl not to smile because he didn't like her teeth.

Also in Mad Men when Megan says some people disliked her teeth. How did they bring that up with the actress?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 12 May 2015 11:08 (eleven years ago)

Part of the job to suck shit like that up I guess. Sure Jessica Pare knows she's extremely attractive despite the teeth.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 11:13 (eleven years ago)

But Don Draper and some ilx people love her teeth.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 12 May 2015 11:42 (eleven years ago)

Also, in the case of Jessica Pare it seems like the Mad Men scene about the teeth was based on the appearance of the actress and not that they had a casting prerequisite for someone who had teeth not everyone would like.

For the Frey women I wonder if it was as simple as "we're looking for unattractive women"?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 12 May 2015 11:51 (eleven years ago)

Some of them probably perfectly attractive IRL.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 11:52 (eleven years ago)

she did seem to have a particularly prominent hipbone. maybe it was just the shot.

looking forward to a thrilling climax at meereen as daenerys gets a mortgage.

xpost i've always wondered how people cast that kind of thing - i guess after a while "yeah i can do ugly" just becomes part of your actor's cv.

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 11:53 (eleven years ago)

people probably failed an audition for those parts and agonised about not being ugly enough or being ugly but not "interesting ugly"

bureau belfast model (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 12 May 2015 11:55 (eleven years ago)

Some of them probably perfectly attractive IRL.

Yeah, I have to be told by the plot that they're supposed to be ugly.
