Gary Thain of Uriah Heap says, "YES!"

omg good look

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 13:53 (eleven years ago)

a lot of the chinese students at northwestern when i worked there would wear uggs. i didn't think it was agl but sth like the above is cooler

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 14:06 (eleven years ago)

for def. uggs are definitely more of like a women from suburbia thing. i think. i don't know. i feel like uggs have gotten very controversial lately.

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 14:13 (eleven years ago)

Want those pants.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 14:26 (eleven years ago)

I really think the actual combination described in thread title is now extinct in the wild.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 14:44 (eleven years ago)

Nah, it's diminished but I saw it a few times over the cold season

ultimate american sock (mh), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 14:46 (eleven years ago)

definitely still happening but perhaps less so

really just depends where you live. if i went back to my hometown on Long Island for an afternoon i could guarantee at least 2 snapshots of this.

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 14:50 (eleven years ago)

girls at my school have been doing this + puffy vest + ballcap -- it's just such a frumpy and unsexy look

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:01 (eleven years ago)

unless you really like han solo

ultimate american sock (mh), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

go to any american college campus and it is definitely still happening xps

marcos, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

also plenty of elementary and high school age girls are still wearing this look

marcos, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:03 (eleven years ago)

i'm sorry but foofy boot AND puffy vest is wayyyy too much and they should check themselves

lol ballcap <3 school

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:03 (eleven years ago)

puffy vests always make people look like an assistant at a garden centre imo, not to say that is a good or a bad thing

soref, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:06 (eleven years ago)

I go to an American college campus - but it really has faded IMO! Tight black leggings still to be seen, but the big foofy boots that tied it all together have been aggressively purged. Maybe it's an NYC thing.

I associate puffy vests - like, ski vests? - with punks and hipsters of a decade ago, scruffy folk in raggedly cut-off denim patched with band logos, stained t-shirts, and brightly colored happy ski vests. I've held onto one partly out of nostalgia for those times though I suspect it's years since I actually put the darn thing on.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:11 (eleven years ago)

they are almost always black and archaeoptryx/patagonia/north face/some other sporting goods company brand, don't see many of the bright 80s earth tone/primary color ones. those i actually like and would wear if i had any.

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:19 (eleven years ago)

well the thing is too that we're not really addressing is that the foofy boot is about to make a comeback in style in general. it went out for like a hot second when people got sick of the studio 54 look, but anticipate some electric gray leather foofy boots in your US Weekly sometime soon.

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:20 (eleven years ago)

yea it's the outdoor geary vests that i see more of for sure xp

marcos, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:21 (eleven years ago)

i really just wish giant shawls would disappear more than i hate uggs

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:38 (eleven years ago)

i can sign off on that but i'm very interested in the shawl DRESS which is very powerful to see in person

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 15:40 (eleven years ago)

Unsexy and frumpy can be a look of choice if you want to be left alone to study or do as you please without attracting attention.

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:04 (eleven years ago)

OTM. Or if you just like the way something looks or feels and don't care if you are pleasing to anyone else's eye.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:04 (eleven years ago)

i just bought a bunch of baggy pants and all i wear are company giveaway tshirts these days so i can safely also cosign on this

one thing i've noticed about college girls in boston (the less-preppy ones at least) is that so many of them wear military-style jackets, i like them!

marcos, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:13 (eleven years ago)

they range from more stylish to frumpy and imo they all look pretty cool

marcos, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:13 (eleven years ago)

olive green is just a nice color imo

marcos, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:13 (eleven years ago)

let's not turn this into a feminist objectification thing

i'm feeling v confident abt my own style choices lately so it's likely i'm just projecting ^_^;;

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)

in the same way that i complain about the gay male "beard + shaved sides long top hair" clone archetype it's not the thing in itself, just the repetition of seeing it everywhere that's tiring and suggests to me basic-ness

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

A bunch of dudes criticizing how women look, yes let's not get all feminist about it.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:36 (eleven years ago)

*rolls eyes*, i can present my Feminist Cred Association card to you anytime you like. ;)

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

btw, did you ever get your fragrance made?

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:38 (eleven years ago)

It's curing or steeping or molting or whatever. Should be done by the 20th, I think?

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:40 (eleven years ago)

And FYI your feminist cred association card doesn't mean shit in light of comments like "let's not turn this into a feminist objectification thing" after women post mild protests re: your critique of women's public presentation.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:42 (eleven years ago)

lol, calm down sheesh! not everything is an occasion to feel the obligation to be offended! but i will quietly step out of the room now.

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

gay guys have plenty to worry about too in terms of appearance is all i will say

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:47 (eleven years ago)

Good lord, son, yes I think that's a good idea. I could win some kind of "anti-feminist troll bingo" off your last four posts alone. xp

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:47 (eleven years ago)

No doubt! But this isn't gay guys v. women in the objectification sweepstakes. This is two women very, very gently calling out dudes who they know and like for judging women's appearance in a way that they found to be uncool, and one of those dudes being very... interesting in response.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:49 (eleven years ago)

lol fuck off, i really dgaf

we can talk about the white supremacist tendencies of these lululemon clones if you like.

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:50 (eleven years ago)

okay i will stay out of itttt

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:50 (eleven years ago)

notice i never made any gross comments about cameltoes or women's asses, i just said it's a boring look! anyway peace, i bow to the REI in you. later.

charva favela (clouds), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:50 (eleven years ago)

I mean, maybe take LL and my comments as the gift they are meant to be instead of jumping right to "oh no angry feminists are getting their black leggings in a twist just calm down ladies," which is a way worse look than Uggs and puffy vests or whatever the sartorial issue was.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 16:51 (eleven years ago)

clearly a touchy subject rn but giant shawls are fun, it's like being a kid & wearing a cape to the supermarket

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 17:00 (eleven years ago)

well my one coworker has essentially this cape dress that i believe is in wool. it is absolutely gorgeous.

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 17:01 (eleven years ago)

Wearing a cape dress to the supermarket would be good because of all the shoplifting you could do.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 17:02 (eleven years ago)

i like wearing my huge cocoon shawl thing with leggings bc then i can ALSO pretend I'm debbie allen

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 17:03 (eleven years ago)

giant shawls can edge into Dorothy Zbornak territory

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 17:04 (eleven years ago)

lol yes
