― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 21:13 (nine years ago) link
the show is mostly a montage of boobs iirc

Esp. useful for arguing about The Wire.

I've stopped being able to pay attention to the dialogue on this show?
― 龜, Saturday, 9 May 2015 20:52 (nine years ago) link
It's a tragedy
Sons of the Harpy appear to have one weird trick that lets them slide behind anyone and slit their throat. Why don't all the fighters in this show use that one weird trick
― 龜, Saturday, 9 May 2015 20:53 (nine years ago) link
westerosi conquerors hate this one weird trick
― SCHLITZ MIXED BAG (Sparkle Motion), Saturday, 9 May 2015 21:07 (nine years ago) link
Those unsullied were quite disappointing and made them look good imo. Apart from grey worm of course, they were a shower of shite that capitulated way too easily.
― xelab, Saturday, 9 May 2015 21:08 (nine years ago) link
unsullied aren't exactly trained for urban alley knife fights. they're siege-oriented spear dudes. harpy dudes are just expertly exploiting an obvious weakness.
― Clay, Saturday, 9 May 2015 21:43 (nine years ago) link
i disagree with that, the unsullied are basically the most elite and exclusive mercenary fighting force across all of the several continents that have been introduced so far in this show, they have been trained since they were toddlers to be the most badass of all badass mercenary fighters and the idea that they might be bamboozled by fighting masked vigilantes in slightly closer quarters than they are used to is akin to suggesting that the world champions of any given sport could be beaten by a pub team provided the chosen field of combat/competition was suitable and lol wgaf clearly i am a total nerd for even remotely caring about this shit given that we now live in a world where tv spoils things for books jesus christ
― Windsor Davies, Saturday, 9 May 2015 23:42 (nine years ago) link
idk the world's most mighty military forces irl have failed to control plenty of incredibly underarmed and untrained regional armies in situations like afghanistan & vietnam et al., and grrm is certainly using dany's storyline to speak to the problems with outside forces ruling & the insurgency against the leaders inherent in that situation so it's easy for me to gloss over thematically
― Clay, Saturday, 9 May 2015 23:55 (nine years ago) link
sons of the harpy have had time to develop some solid metalworking skills for those masks so it seems fair that they'd have time to get decent at killing too, at least decent enough for five-on-one close quarters encounters
― cis-het shitlord (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 9 May 2015 23:56 (nine years ago) link
I think people who complain about the unsullied rolling over have seen too many movies/TV shows where a few of the good guys outshoot/outfight dozens of baddies.
― nickn, Sunday, 10 May 2015 00:45 (nine years ago) link
strength in numbers is actually kind of a running thing in the novels fwiw
― Clay, Sunday, 10 May 2015 00:50 (nine years ago) link
i've wondered if they could track down the harpies by just grilling anyone capable of making those masks in the area. and by grilling, i mean torture.
― AKA Thermo Thinwall (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 10 May 2015 01:12 (nine years ago) link
And by grilling, I mean grilling.
― nickn, Sunday, 10 May 2015 01:18 (nine years ago) link
I think the problem with the unsullied & harpies fight was the set. It was supposed to be a narrow alley but the set was obviously not that narrow.
― poxy fülvous (abanana), Sunday, 10 May 2015 11:32 (nine years ago) link
the hypothesis of some (incl. jason concepcion/netw3rk in a recent article) is that a fair amount of the unsullied are fighting pit dudes who are out of work. bc I higly doubt they're just masked rich people
― slothroprhymes, Sunday, 10 May 2015 12:51 (nine years ago) link
like the unsullied, fighting pit slaves are trained all their lives to be what they are. and not to fight in an orderly elite fashion but to be vicious/relentless
― slothroprhymes, Sunday, 10 May 2015 12:53 (nine years ago) link
We're all overthinking it a bit. In my opinion it is poor editing and/or choreography.
Goals:-Portray the unsullied being overwhelmed and defeated: check.-Show Grey Worm fighting competently as he is a main character: check.
They likely weren't thinking of any character dynamics beyond that. They achieved what they thought the scene was meant to convey.
― Evan, Sunday, 10 May 2015 13:27 (nine years ago) link
Kind of like how "plot armor" protects characters in unlikely situations, this is the opposite. They overemphasized the fact that the unsullied get killed in the scene for the purpose of the plot and failed to better represent their character attributes as bad ass fighters.
― Evan, Sunday, 10 May 2015 13:33 (nine years ago) link
it wldve been cooler if when she ran into the kennel masters daughter sansa was just all "oh hey miranda"

Pretty good episode. No idea where these threads are going now.
Did the message to Sansa to light a candle come from Brienne, or from other Stark supporters? Or was it another boring Ramsay trick?
― poxy fülvous (abanana), Monday, 11 May 2015 06:23 (nine years ago) link
Other Stark supporters or boring Ramsay trick ~we don't know~
― resulting post (rogermexico.), Monday, 11 May 2015 06:54 (nine years ago) link
the sequence of the episode implied it was the message from brienne.

Makes sense- old people are more likely to fall for those scams. Bran calls and gets them to download TeamViewer and that's that.

the valyria stuff was great
stannis is so interesting to me. he seems like a total prick but he has this well of kindness in him, i am enjoying the scenes with him more and more
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 11 May 2015 15:48 (nine years ago) link
Agreed, Stannis has come to be one of the most interesting characters on the show IMO.
― SCHLITZ MIXED BAG (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 11 May 2015 15:55 (nine years ago) link
Thinking Stannis might die soon, given they made a point to show Davos cautioning him to wait until Jon provides reinforcement, combined with the scene establishing Roose and Ramsay's confidence and expectation of Stannis's attack, and lastly the vibe in that scene with Jon watching Stannis ride away with his army seemed purposefully mournful and heavy.
― Evan, Monday, 11 May 2015 15:58 (nine years ago) link

My wife was saying Stannis' character was more than just a buzzkill stoic in the books than he's been presented thus far and this season is trying to change that perception a bit.

In terms of the game of thrones, yes. In terms of the larger story, I doubt it. Cersei, Jaime, and the Imp aren't done anytime soon, I'd reckon. Cersei's Frankenmountain isn't even running yet.
They will. They're regional meanies at best and they will suffer and it will be enjoyable, but their suffering will come at some horrifying monkey's paw-like cost a la Joffrey imo
― polyphonic, Monday, 11 May 2015 19:22 (nine years ago) link
feel like cersei is way over playing her hand, alienating potential allies, setting herself up for a fall, if she and her son-king go down its over for the house they have no money, jamie and tyrion are out in the wilderness
― lag∞n, Monday, 11 May 2015 19:32 (nine years ago) link
comes back to how tywin was saying shes not as smart as she thinks and is too impulsive
stannis seems like a good guy who's been hardened by rough shit, hence the odd relation to jon snow where he seems to respect and admire him for the same qualities that he thinks make him a foolhardy chump.
ramsay is the worst, i don't think i'll be able to see that actor in anything else without immediately thinking of him as an utter douchebag.
