the ol' boob 'n' butt anatomic impossibility pose always conveys girl power

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 02:40 (eleven years ago)

I'm not really a comix aficionado either, I just object to how kitschy and calculated the photo is.

surprised none of them are wearing a "Your Mom is In My Top 8 on MySpace" shirt.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 03:11 (eleven years ago)

(don't mean that as a "omg fukk comix", just that my exploration has largely been WAtchmen, The Killing Joke, Dark Knight Returns, and a few others here and there).

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 03:12 (eleven years ago)

I dig that Adam Hughes signed that cosplayer's mallet.

Doktor Van Peebles (kingfish), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 05:23 (eleven years ago)

heh i noticed that too

Nhex, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 05:32 (eleven years ago)

idk who the fuck the fucks in that film lineup are

Well that was always the point of the book from the 80s on, where they just took a bunch of obscure DC C- and D-grade villains and thru them into this unit. Somebody usually always got capped on each mission.

Doktor Van Peebles (kingfish), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 05:41 (eleven years ago)

heh i noticed that too

me three

( who ALSO my boss and his sister!) (sic), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 07:10 (eleven years ago)

so disappointed not to see grant morrison in that lineup as notable suicide squad cannon-fodder member 'the writer'

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 09:20 (eleven years ago)

that wouldn't be until the equivalent of Suicide Squad Movie Chapter 58

( who ALSO my boss and his sister!) (sic), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 10:29 (eleven years ago)

we can but hope

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 10:35 (eleven years ago)

Am I wrong in thinking that this whole project is basically hinging on the presence of the Joker (which people have already been clowning, pun very much intended) and Will Smith's questionable present-day pull at the box office? Is there another element I'm not considering that could possibly save it from being a disaster?

More Fetid Than Fêted (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:24 (eleven years ago)

how they can go wrong, they have that naked chick from The Wolf of Wall Street and nu-Robocop

Nhex, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:26 (eleven years ago)

I would lol if they pulled a Milligan/Allred X-Force move and murdered 90% of the cast in the first 15 minutes

DJP, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:29 (eleven years ago)

another element = no-one had heard of Guardians of the Galaxy, kids are crazy for those comic book movies these days (yes yes, very different comics)

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:33 (eleven years ago)

well also GotG looked like it would be good very early on in the promo cycle (that one super expository commercial notwithstanding)

DJP, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:35 (eleven years ago)

warners really seem to be hellbent on learning all the wrong lessons from marvel's movies

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:39 (eleven years ago)

Producers are just going to individually promote the movie to all results in this search: https://www.tumblr.com/search/harley+quinn

I might like you better if we Yelped together (Phil D.), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 13:41 (eleven years ago)

da croupier, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 14:39 (eleven years ago)

bass drops synced with bullets hitting flesh

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 14:44 (eleven years ago)

millennials need their own judgement night OST; it's time

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 14:47 (eleven years ago)

Also hopeful this movie will have some fun meetings ahead with the MPAA, which may still lead to this being released as THE SQUAD, as per the lego batman 3 DLC

da croupier, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 14:48 (eleven years ago)

Haha forgot about judgment night, was thinking of spawn

da croupier, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 14:49 (eleven years ago)

from the aforementioned superhero blockbuster, spawn

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 22:13 (eleven years ago)

And even bigger superhero, Black Dynamite!

Doktor Van Peebles (kingfish), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 22:21 (eleven years ago)

About as well as could be expected

Doktor Van Peebles (kingfish), Friday, 8 May 2015 15:06 (eleven years ago)

god i still can't believe dc is going to just gonna give joker a girlfriend and (allegedly) batman a dead robin four years after DKR. I realize we're all sick of rebooted origin stories, but if you're going to revamp with the story THAT far in progress...

da croupier, Friday, 8 May 2015 16:08 (eleven years ago)

and yes, many a nerdlinger knows about harley quinn and jason todd, but if the idea is to compete with the avengers you really don't want to settle for "the nerds already know this"

da croupier, Friday, 8 May 2015 16:08 (eleven years ago)

i'd almost be relieved to hear a marketing research study revealed a large untapped audience of juggalos across the planet dissatisfied with marvel's populism and lack of badass. if that wasn't also a horrifying prospect.

harley quinn has been a hot topic favorite for a long time ime, unless this was just long-term anticipatory marketing, which seems beyond them

difficult listening hour, Friday, 8 May 2015 16:46 (eleven years ago)

for non-comics-fans she also counts as 90s nostalgia

difficult listening hour, Friday, 8 May 2015 16:48 (eleven years ago)

though i feel like it may be unfair to lump the main character from Sex Criminals in there

Nhex, Friday, 8 May 2015 16:50 (eleven years ago)

yeah harley quinn was a pretty major character in the batman cartoon on fox in the 90s which was dope

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 8 May 2015 18:58 (eleven years ago)

See if they did a remake of the animated series that would be dope.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 8 May 2015 19:02 (eleven years ago)

I wager that you might feel a little differently if present day DC/WB actually did remake the animated series.

Doggy McBaby (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 May 2015 19:06 (eleven years ago)

Filmmaker and comic book fan Kevin Smith named his daughter after Harley Quinn; she made a cameo appearance in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back as an infant Silent Bob in the opening scene, and was recently featured in his reality television show Comic Book Men.[53] She will appear alongside Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose Depp in the 2015 comedy horror film Yoga Hosers.

Allen (etaeoe), Friday, 8 May 2015 19:06 (eleven years ago)

what i've always been curious about is

In 2002, a live-action television series called Birds of Prey, loosely based on the comic of the same name, included Harley Quinn as a psychotic psychiatrist and main antagonist. The character was portrayed by actress Mia Sara (replacing Sherilyn Fenn from an unaired pilot episode). The show aired only 13 episodes. In this show, she is portrayed as an older, far more calculating and sinister character than her bubbly comic and cartoon personas. Picking up where the Joker had left off, Harleen Quinzel used her day job as a therapist to achieve her savage purpose – to take control of the city of New Gotham. She does not wear a costume, although she does wear an outfit that is reminiscent of her cartoon costume in the series finale "Devil's Eyes." In that episode, she uses experimental technology to transfer metahuman mind control powers to herself. She occasionally makes reference to her "sweet Mr. J.", laments his loss as a Gotham City crime boss and hints at a past relationship reminiscent to that of the animated series.

Doktor Van Peebles (kingfish), Friday, 8 May 2015 20:22 (eleven years ago)

fyi i'm aware that harley quinn was on kids tv in the 90s i SAID many a nerdlinger

da croupier, Friday, 8 May 2015 20:24 (eleven years ago)

the point is that if you're going to introduce a very different batverse to a global audience a couple years after Nolan's, you might not want to smuggle it in mid-story inside a superman and a suicide squad movie, even if many a thirtysomething has sweet afternoon memories of her

da croupier, Friday, 8 May 2015 20:28 (eleven years ago)

eh, you're overthinking it. 90% of the audience will be like "oh, the joker's girlfriend, okay" and then "BEWBS!"

Nhex, Friday, 8 May 2015 21:27 (eleven years ago)

you're probably correct, in terms of 90% of the audience that will be pulled in by the promotional materials for this movie. just not in terms of 90% of the potential audience for a superhero movie.
