Bump.
― A-Hanisi Coates (Leee), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 18:48 (eleven years ago)
ok so here i will vent my impending horror about most likely having to see sansa the fates of jeyne poole/fake arya as depicted in dance with dragons.
aaaaaaaaaaauuggghhhhhhhh
(to be clear it'd be awful to see anyone undergo such a thing on film, this is not character favoritism
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 18:54 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, that made me uncomfortable too -- are they going to substantially alter that story line? They've already changed Theon's sister's motive for returning to the mainland ... and then there's the Stannis group, but I imagine that this season all those things will happen
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:01 (eleven years ago)
so that one of the climaxes of the season will be all those parties converging
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:02 (eleven years ago)
for real wasn't one maniac sadist enough

(apologies repetitive post for those who've read nonspoiler thread where i posted this before I knew this one existed) interview w/ alfie allen strongly suggests that scene is happening - saying things like "there's a scene so disturbing i could barely finish filming it/it will make people be more revolted by ramsay and me (theon) than they were by joffrey"
on the other hand i would not be surprised if sansa takes baelish's admonition to heart and gets revenge on ramsay for that (and yknow for his general existence)
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:13 (eleven years ago)
they seem to have totally shitcanned the iron islands stuff for now, which to some extent makes sense but it'd be cool to see more asha/yara greyjoy
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:15 (eleven years ago)
i have been enjoying the season so far. i am fully on board with widening deviations and moving past the books. having said that, everything has been within the bounds of reasonable expectation so far, no apple carts upset, so we'll see what happens if they really change something. sansa to winterfell is so obvious it makes me wonder if it was GRRM's original intention before he started fucking around and what the hell he is doing with her otherwise.
one thing i will say about this season is that the tension between the widening scope of the story and the vehicle of intimate one-on-ones and character development scenes is starting to show strain. throughout the show there have been scenes where you wonder how they can burn 10 minutes on a given scene with so much else going on, particularly egregious when things were being dropped from the books left and right, but somehow it seems even worse as the narrative gets broader and less focused.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:21 (eleven years ago)
there are definitely things the show is doing better than the books in terms of moving the plot forward and adapting it for television, like eliminating fake Sansa and having Bron go to Dorne instead of the white knight dude whose name I forget. I think the only major divergence is Littlefinger sacrificing Sansa to Ramsey, where in the books I don't think he would do that.
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:29 (eleven years ago)
i think that yes, sansa is going to suffer horribly at the hands of ramsay, but they will stop short of everything that happened in the book. Also think that in the end sansa will engineer ramsay's destruction and basically come out halfway to being miss littlefinger coldheart w/maybe an icier core than even arya has.
― demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:31 (eleven years ago)
i imagine she won't really do much except suffer and then get rescued by Asha or Stannis' spies with the help of Theon
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:39 (eleven years ago)
possibly eat lemon cakes?
― Free Me's Electric Trumpet (Moodles), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:46 (eleven years ago)
Ramsey doesn't seem like a lemon cake kinda guy
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:47 (eleven years ago)
unless it's mixed with roasted direwolf or something
i think the conversation between littlefinger and ramsay was supposed to establish that pete somehow does not know that ramsay is a psycho and he thinks the marriage is actually a reasonable thing for someone to do.
also, it seemed like in her meeting with roose they were heavyhandedly showing the decision point where sansa is finally going to make things happen rather than have things happen to her, so i think they are going to have her engineer the escape maybe. that would be cool, but we'll see.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:51 (eleven years ago)
it would be surprising if littlefinger didn't know ramsay's reputation
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:54 (eleven years ago)
yea littlefinger is playing ramsay when he says he doesnt know much about him, i think. bc while roose is pragmatic, cold and smart, ramsay is...none of those things (too much glee in his murder and depravity to be coldblooded), and it would prob be to baelish's benefit to have ramsay thinking he's just some sorta haughty ally of his father's
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:56 (eleven years ago)
yeah ramsay is about as bright as joffrey
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 19:58 (eleven years ago)
he has no impulse control, he would be a shitty 20c serial killer
― demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 20:02 (eleven years ago)
miss littlefinger coldstoneheart
― A-Hanisi Coates (Leee), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 20:22 (eleven years ago)
Don't forget roasted Theon dong.
miss littlefinger coldstone

there are definitely things the show is doing better than the books in terms of moving the plot forward and adapting it for television...

well, yeah
― resulting post (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 28 April 2015 22:06 (eleven years ago)
predicting that Sansa is assaulted or worse not by Ramsay but by his jilted ex
― nashwan, Tuesday, 28 April 2015 22:22 (eleven years ago)
i dont understand why people think the latest season is "meandering" especially those who watch it as non-readers, for me it may not be the best season but is definitely the most concentrated, with the most momentum.
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 17:45 (eleven years ago)
Do we think that Tyrion and Jorah will get captured like in the books? I would be disappointed if that didn't happen.
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:42 (eleven years ago)
Like Tyrion was telling Jorah, I don't think Dany's going to be happy to see a former spy knocking on her door. And I don't think she's going to see the value in having Tyrion, at least not initially, so even more "wtf are you doing here Mormont".
― Madison Dumbbarfer (Leee), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:44 (eleven years ago)
xp some of the upcoming episode synopses more or less confirmed that - something like "tyrion and jorah come upon some slavers"
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:47 (eleven years ago)
Oops! Misread/assumed wrong!
― Madison Dumbbarfer (Leee), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:47 (eleven years ago)
yes I am referring to the "riding the pig" parts
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:49 (eleven years ago)
im guessing that storyline will proceed mostly as it has in the books, hopefully with some fat trimmed
still wondering wtf they do with the iron islands stuff. victarion & euron? yara? etc
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:49 (eleven years ago)
I was re-watching some of the earlier seasons and took note of how for a while the show was drawing parallels between Theon and Tyrion: both youngest sons that are disappointments to their fathers and prefer fucking to fighting
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:50 (eleven years ago)
Theon seemed to like both iirc! Kinda like Bronn.
― Madison Dumbbarfer (Leee), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:51 (eleven years ago)
He just wasn't very good at it.
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 18:52 (eleven years ago)
this stuff is just not happening in the show. I'm sure they'll find a way to kill off Balon (he was in melisandre's leech prophecies on the show right?) and install Yara in his place or something to tie the islands plot off, but I don't think we're getting more than that.
― Clay, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:32 (eleven years ago)
Well near the end of last season, Yara says that she is going back to the mainland to rescue her little brother, so I'm guessing that part of the plot will happen and we will see her again
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:34 (eleven years ago)
She said that after the first attempt?
― Evan, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:37 (eleven years ago)
Yeah she did that already and theon freaked out and she concluded that he isn't really theon anymore and placed out
― Clay, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:43 (eleven years ago)
*peaced out
― Clay, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:44 (eleven years ago)
wow i totally forgot that
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:44 (eleven years ago)
Especially anticlimactic given the implied journey she went on.
― Evan, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:46 (eleven years ago)
xps clay i'm more or less ok with them severing the iron islands stuff if they end up doing so, largely bc euron seemed kinda comic-book-villainish by martin standards
evan did you start reading teh books are you qualified to be in this thread
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:46 (eleven years ago)
she fought with Ramsey's dogs. It was early in season 4 and tbh pretty forgettable as it was not really related to the rest of the season in any way.
― Clay, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:47 (eleven years ago)
I am not qualified to be here except I figured why not given the show has essentially completely diverted.
― Evan, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:48 (eleven years ago)
yeah sloth the islands stuff was for me (outside of some of asha's sex posi narration and maybe the guy who liked to read a lot) the worst grind of the later books and seriously this show is gonna introduce jack sparrow this far along? If they're cutting stoneheart and aegon, well, sorry euron and your silly horn.
(Also shooting all those ship scenes would be prohibitively expensive.)
― Clay, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:52 (eleven years ago)
which one was aegon again?
― Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:54 (eleven years ago)
rhaegar's and elia martell's child, who was supposedly beaten to death by the mountain but didn't die
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:56 (eleven years ago)
i enjoyed that stuff in ADWD but its absence won't mess with the show much
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 19:57 (eleven years ago)
right, and wasn't there some knight character that gets sent along to protect him?
And then there was some other Martell kid who is supposed to marry Dany and impress her but gets burnt to death by the dragons?
there are two boys right? not the same one?
