i wouldn't mind if Benjy replaces Howard whenever he retires. never enough Benjy

flappy bird, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 19:20 (eleven years ago)

JD should sit in the Jackie / Artie chair. He's the only staffer who never fails to entertain.

calstars, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 23:30 (eleven years ago)

just started listening again a few months ago after dropping out around the time artie left. i love how totally relaxed he seems on air now. i even have a hard time listening to replays from the first few years on sirius.

??????????????????????????????????????

dylannn, Thursday, 23 April 2015 16:15 (eleven years ago)

the last time i listened, the show started with benjy taking a quarter of a sleeping pill and his girlfriend calling king of all blacks and i turned it off.

dylannn, Thursday, 23 April 2015 16:16 (eleven years ago)

well it was the benjy vortex but howard got out of it pretty quickly.

ryan, Thursday, 23 April 2015 16:23 (eleven years ago)

"the night before, benjy had chest pains and she called beetlejuice" or whatever made me laugh though. when i said "i turned it off," i guess i meant "i kept listening to the entire show." i dunno, i have the softest spot for 2001 to 2005 when howard was particularly prickly and unhappy. and 2006-2009 when it was messy and things seemed fresh again and artie was there.

having a personal investment in the show, i'm sort of satisfied everyone is less unhappy and they can ease into their twilight years and he's going to interview old rockstars about woodstock or whatever, or madonna is going to be on the show in some barbara walters-type thing but like every stern listener ever, i will still complain that the show kinda sucks now.

dylannn, Thursday, 23 April 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

but i just looked at the 08 recap at the top of the thread and.

yeah 2006-2009 was probably what was for me the best era. and yet something is lost in the replays from that era. i appreciate how comparatively calm and relaxed the show is now. which is perhaps an odd thing to say about a comedy show.

but i think old wise howard is still pretty good. my favorite part of the show has always just been howard and robin shooting the shit so that's still pretty good as far as i can tell. probably helps that i didn't listen for about 3-4 years until a few months ago so it's like hanging out with old friends again.

dylannn, Thursday, 23 April 2015 16:51 (eleven years ago)

I just miss Artie

calstars, Friday, 24 April 2015 02:32 (eleven years ago)

Show got interesting momentarily on wed 4/15 with mad David arquette fight and then Ralph vs Ronnie

calstars, Saturday, 25 April 2015 17:54 (eleven years ago)

More Sour Shoes. The world needs more of this guy

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Saturday, 25 April 2015 21:10 (eleven years ago)

Sour's impression of Artie is masterful

calstars, Friday, 1 May 2015 02:24 (eleven years ago)

i could live in the benjy vortex

flappy bird, Friday, 1 May 2015 07:03 (eleven years ago)

Sour's flow is pretty incredible, there's no pauses for processing, the way he moves from voice to voice and subject to subject, it's kinda amazing.

MaresNest, Friday, 1 May 2015 08:34 (eleven years ago)

Ralph is Howard's male lover

calstars, Friday, 1 May 2015 23:15 (eleven years ago)

Ronnie with special guest Jon Lieberman vs Ralph has been pretty good

calstars, Friday, 1 May 2015 23:18 (eleven years ago)

three weeks pass...

Complaining about the phones last week was pretty real

calstars, Saturday, 23 May 2015 01:01 (eleven years ago)

charlie sheen injects on 5/13 were masterful

calstars, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:02 (eleven years ago)

i enjoyed his weird rant about the muppets.

ryan, Monday, 25 May 2015 17:15 (eleven years ago)

he has his artie almost perfect now

dylannn, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 08:22 (eleven years ago)

not perfect but in particular he's got the rhythm right, the chuckle in his voice when he sets up the punchline to his stories, cutting himself off, "yeaaah!" and asking howard to talk up a record...

"no, don't go into norm"

dylannn, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 08:27 (eleven years ago)

sour...sour...

calstars, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 11:34 (eleven years ago)

two months pass...

howard has discovered coffee

flappy bird, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:10 (ten years ago)

haha when they were trying to describe a kurig to him "i dont want pod"

chaki (kurt schwitterz), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:12 (ten years ago)

i am totally clicked out at the minute, how is the show these days?

MaresNest, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:26 (ten years ago)

its ok. there's too many cringy pre recorded bits.

chaki (kurt schwitterz), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:35 (ten years ago)

What, like Sal & Rich stuff?

MaresNest, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:42 (ten years ago)

no they've hired like 40 new writers for shit. it sux. the best stuff is still the staff drama/wackpack stuff. beetle was on recently and it was great. yesterday's fantasy football fight with michael rappaport also great.

chaki (kurt schwitterz), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:50 (ten years ago)

Ah, that sounds kinda cack, my favourite moments have always been the staff drama stuff.

MaresNest, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 17:53 (ten years ago)

i still miss artie but my life is juuuust pathetic enough right now that i can listen to most of the show and im really enjoying it.

ryan, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 18:02 (ten years ago)

chaki I have no idea what you're referring to regarding pre recorded bits?

calstars, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 18:09 (ten years ago)

i could listen to them talk about coffee for three hours. i already did this week

flappy bird, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 18:57 (ten years ago)

im a late comer to the show, i've only listened since 2011, and i find most pre-9/11 shows a snooze. i like listening to it now because it reminds me of listening to my parents or my aunts and uncles talk. like how he was "destroyed" by his 2 day trip to LA. and getting all worked up about kidney stones from his starbucks. i love that shit. it's a shame because most people still think "howard stern -> throwing meat at lesbians" or black jeopardy or fart jokes. the sirius era especially is like watching a baseball game or going fishing. time is a river

flappy bird, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 19:04 (ten years ago)

chaki I have no idea what you're referring to regarding pre recorded bits?

are you serious? you dont hear how they will suddenly go to a full 5 minute bit precommercial? plus all the mitt romney, hilary, arnold, bill cosby impersonator stuff?

chaki (kurt schwitterz), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 19:06 (ten years ago)

Jeff the drunk's lump calling in is funny.

ryan, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 19:45 (ten years ago)

in the '80s he sounded like a kvetching, blinkered aluminum-siding salesman with no self-respect.

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 19:51 (ten years ago)

yah eric andre should be in the artie chair for a week or something.

chaki (kurt schwitterz), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 19:52 (ten years ago)

ah...do you mean the bumpers? As in "You're listening to the HSS...and now, a word from Crazy Alice..."

calstars, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 20:00 (ten years ago)

those are hella annoying. I usually just turn down the volume for a few minutes. They don't have commercials on the on demand downloads.

calstars, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 20:01 (ten years ago)

ya the bumpers but there are like even more "concept" bits every day now like.. "here's donald trump going to the dentist robin.." ugh

chaki (kurt schwitterz), Wednesday, 12 August 2015 20:15 (ten years ago)

i've only listened since 2011, and i find most pre-9/11 shows a snooze -- 2001 to 2010 sweet spot decade for me, covering the final years on terrestrial, emergence of artie, satellite. but i've gone back and listened to most of the 90s and i can tolerate late-90s the best.

the show's okay now, dull as it's ever been. appreciating no bobo. all the bits are horrible. i wonder who listens, though, outside of aging diehard fans.

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 20:53 (ten years ago)

i hate celebrity interviews.

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 20:53 (ten years ago)

same...I skip over all the interviews

aug 16 2007 -- one of my favorites, partly because i like howard on the radio business + talking up records etc -- came up on mammary lane recently -- from the 40 minute mark, kenny the k

dylannn, Wednesday, 12 August 2015 21:08 (ten years ago)

sorry, i think it was deleted. if anyone can find that on youtube, i'd like to hear it again.

on the recorded bits, more: i have a problem with impressions of wack packers in particular, like the fake riley martin and fake big foot, and the rest is morning rock radio pushing the boundaries of decency but with actual bad words which makes it even less funny. bill cosby "99 victims and i fucked every one," particularly unfunny and hacky and gross.

dylannn, Thursday, 13 August 2015 07:00 (ten years ago)

another hour of coffee. amazing
