I feel like she brings the show to a dead halt. Once she appears everything more or less becomes an exercise in frustration (both for louie and the viewer) and that's p much all ya get.

pam adlon is fucking awesome, the character is painful as

but totally true

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 April 2015 00:44 (eleven years ago)

would've made more sense to have swapped episode 1 and 2 around (pamela tells louis she wants a more casual/open thing so THEN he has sex with the pregnant woman) but yeah i know...

they're both as bad as each other obv

nashwan, Monday, 20 April 2015 07:43 (eleven years ago)

the show has always done one-off episodes that don't call back to anything else or even exist in the same universe, but it was still weird to make that one the premiere

Thought this one was unexpectedly sad with that cop.

I had often been annoyed at how he talks about young people so it's funny to see the starting scene.

except since when has the show been concerned with continuity?

liked the Michael Rappaport episode a lot, best one of the season so far imo

Οὖτις, Friday, 1 May 2015 20:58 (eleven years ago)

the cop one was like the archetypal louie episode.

starts out in farcical mode, shifts to the comedy of embarrassment with an added element of social satire, but then becomes something much darker and weirder, and makes the most contemptible character a figure of pathos.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 1 May 2015 20:59 (eleven years ago)

also, michael rappaport has let himself go :(

making a show where we're supposed to feel sorry for an ignorant, violent cop was more than a little ngggggggggghh
counterpoint that with the almost casual understanding-as-a-given the sheer incompetence of nypd.... the scene with a vanload of cops getting out in front of louis who all ignore the pistol on the ground in front of him seemed like it could be taken as serious thumb in the eye
but rappaport was convincing and the situation was compelling all the same

i don't know if we're supposed to feel sorry for him as much as be aware that he's trying to make us feel sorry for him.

I can't type anymore

Οὖτις, Friday, 1 May 2015 21:40 (eleven years ago)

i think the rappaport characters eventualy freak-out and howl of despair was anything but a plea for sympathy (even if the character was clearly intensely self-pitying). and louis ck depicted it almost clinically. i response with a mix of empathy and revulsion.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 1 May 2015 22:46 (eleven years ago)

i can't type either, apparently.

Man comedy pegging is like a thing this year.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 02:03 (eleven years ago)

strictly speaking I don't think that was full-on pegging

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 May 2015 03:27 (eleven years ago)

my god, the boogeyman leaping out of the doorway may have been the scariest thing I've seen this year; i believe i audibly screamed

With respect to Rappaport's character, I'd say 'this is a character you're meant to see as a human being with layers' most definitely did not equate to 'this is a character you're meant to sympathize with'. Because that guy was like the archetype of people I go out of my way to avoid.

Jumped out of my skin. Laughed my head off too.

I laughed a lot at Louie's brother being convinced he was the older brother. I think he's quite funny in general.

You mean the nightmare episode or the series generally?

See the Belz up in the sky, somebody cancelled SVU (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 16 May 2015 19:15 (eleven years ago)

Pamela is trying to be more realistic about their relationship, although her fears (about both of them being just barely still fuckable in mid-40s, "retarded tits" etc) come through very clearly---nevertheless, her hectoring zings etc.(as delivered, anyway) tend to make her seem like a hip variant on the standard sitcom buzzkill hottie wife-mom to the feckless underdog male.

I assumed he was talking about the rumors of lck whipping it out

Ahh. Didn't know there were new developments on the Louis CK Might Be A Fucking Creep front.

I desperately want that to be bullshit but it doesn't seem likely, alas.

fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Saturday, 16 May 2015 21:37 (eleven years ago)

it's not

J0rdan S., Saturday, 16 May 2015 21:55 (eleven years ago)

Yeah the first thing everybody should do is start deleting all episodes of this very suddenly not brillliant/funny show from their DVD queues

Hadrian VIII, Saturday, 16 May 2015 22:15 (eleven years ago)

ugh

Hadrian VIII, Saturday, 16 May 2015 22:15 (eleven years ago)

It's simple. Some people separate art from artist easily and some people don't. In this situation, where the grievance is almost certainly true, you don't need to wag your finger at anyone who suddenly doesn't find him funny anymore.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 16 May 2015 22:40 (eleven years ago)

Wow that is super gross. Thx for not making me google.

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Saturday, 16 May 2015 22:52 (eleven years ago)

xpost Actually that's right. The finger wagging should be left to the experts. With each passing year they hone their chops—less information, more indignant, faster on the draw. The day can't come soon enough when we can just text our judgments direct to Viacom

1 MORE HECTORING
2 COMPEL APOLOGY
3 FIRE FROM JOB
4 EXTERMINATE

5 delete from dvr which is literally what I fuckin did

can't figure out if this is in or out of character for him

flopson, Sunday, 17 May 2015 02:56 (eleven years ago)

like he's pretty upfront about his horny desperation, i could even conceive of him writing an ep around him whipping him out and pulling it off?

flopson, Sunday, 17 May 2015 02:57 (eleven years ago)

is this gonna be a big deal or will ppl just kinda ignore it? is he dating pam ad? saw them in the audience at mayweather pacquiao, looked like she was snuggling up on his shoulder

flopson, Sunday, 17 May 2015 03:00 (eleven years ago)

People got over/ignored the Woody stuff, wouldn't be surprised to see the same here.

Is this show still any good? I was a flag waving fan early on, but I think I just stopped watching during that Hungarian girl arc a season ago. Show seemed to be getting weaker and weaker as it went on.

This seems like a bold claim for a dude actively soliciting emails for anyone willing to confirm in your article. Not trying to ruin a scoop or anything, but I assume you're saying you've got actual confirmation?
