Felt pretty bummed about losing Ciaran Hinds tbh.

One of the most concise ways I've ever seen of character establishment was that comment, "we all know what Stannis is." from the first season, before we had ever seen him or really know anything about him.
― Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Monday, 13 April 2015 16:12 (nine years ago) link
i kind of dig stannis and his moral absolutism less psyched abt his crazy religious fanaticism tho it is understandable in the context. was hoping for some assassin school arya (assuming that's where she's headed at least) but perhaps in subsequent eps.
also totally unsure where the plot is headed right now, feels like this season could go in any direction and im not sure if that's a good thing yet

Interesting how they've made Sansa look more like her mother (or Littlefinger has).
Is this the first time they've ever used flashbacks? I didn't think they'd ever do that because there's been so much talk of past events that other makers would have used flashbacks for.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 00:58 (nine years ago) link
Yes, Ciaran Hinds was good in the episode.
Really puzzled as to how exactly anyone could control dragons like that unless you had wargs working in shifts on them.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 01:05 (nine years ago) link
Annoying that the witch in the flashback was a rumpled hottie instead of the horrible old crone of the books, does every little thing have to be sexy in this fuckin thing?

Caved and watched all 4. Sort of wish the whole show had been paced like this.

Pretty good opening episode, even without any Arya scenes. One thing I noticed was that Winterfell is no longer a smoking ruin in the opening credits. Also, it's interesting to see that Daenerys is losing control of her dragons, and her role as the great white saviour is beginning to fall apart. This season, though, I'm mainly looking forward to the continuing adventures of Tyrion and Varys, and also them eventually meeting - and riding - the dragons. Can't wait 'till next week... but I will.

Reckon I'm just going to stay away from all GoT threads from now on until I've caught up with the first four (which could be in the next few days if the GF has her way).
― the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 14:52 (nine years ago) link
i watched all four immediately and now find myself without anyone to chat with about them (aside from the gf, but she doesn't enjoy this kind of stuff on the same level as me).
i'm being good and not spoiling anything for anyone.

I'm naively hoping that Danerys can still control her dragons - mr veg wonders if third MIA dragon is the key ie her communicating through it to them when/if it ever returns
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 17:52 (nine years ago) link
feel like its something about her just having confidence and accepting her role as leader and mother of dragons like shes afraid of them so they dont trust her and so forth, she will no doubt have some sort of breakthrough prob via riding around on them
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 18:12 (nine years ago) link
would be kinda funny if the dragons just took off and never came back. like the whole thing with the dragons was just a shaggy dog story.
― ryan, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 18:16 (nine years ago) link

Despite the leak, the first episode apparently had 1.4 million more viewers than last year's opener(!?).

If there isn't a scene with Daenerys riding on the back of Drogon, slicing heads off and roasting knights alive, I'm going to be very sad.

Drogon is such a terrible name for a dragon.
Here's my cat, Cot.
― fuck me, archipelago (Simon H.), Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:44 (nine years ago) link
it's in reference to khal drogo, her catatonia-ridden and then mercy-smothered dothraki husband
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:45 (nine years ago) link
which is why "drogo" would do just fine.
dying at "cot"

basically because it would be impossible to yell at the cat without sounding like Sean Connery

xxp there have to be Ns at the end of almost every targaryen name, esp. if there isn't an -ys at the end, it's like a valryian law idk i don't make the rules man
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:54 (nine years ago) link
one of the only immediate exceptions i can think of is rhaegal, one of her other dragons
― slothroprhymes, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 19:55 (nine years ago) link
So by the third dragon she didn't have the energy to continue to follow her silly naming rules?
― Evan, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 20:00 (nine years ago) link
well it's got the "rhae" part covered in that instance, another targaryen naming essential (rhaenys, rhaegar, rhaella, etc.) and is in tribute to her older, deader bro (rhaegar)
that one's def skirting the valryian rules man, v close call

worst part of the episode was the 25-minute long build up to a really boring, short conversation between Missandei and Grey Worm, so that we could learn that no, Grey Worm does not know why unsullied are visiting brothels.
also dario's butt feature
