i'm into this ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CONFIDENCE kick i've been on lately -- i have spent so much of my life terrified of being seen as queer, weird, ridiculous, etc. but... I AM ALL THOSE THINGS but also realizing (i mean i've sort of known but never really internalized it) that this is the very quality that people who like me appreciate.

also just putting more energy into looking cute/not dressing like a bum/not being fearful of standing out in any way.

like, i've done all the homework you know? i've spent years and years exerting so much effort to not offend, telling myself the lie (and believing it) that i was doing it out of some feeling of obligation to "make society better" and not merely a seeking of approval coupled with a fear of being hurt or singled out. sometimes it's liberating to be... kind of a dick!

tl;dr right now i am into being looking, feeling, being MAGNIFICENT <3

it occurred to me this week, a propos of very little, that a lot of old guys - and by old i guess i mean my age and up at this point - that you (i) talk to in pubs have only got one mode of discourse re: politics and it is immediate radge near-threatening towards any idea that might be considerable as less than hundred percent toughness

I think its important to get out and about away from ILX political discourse -earnest, liberal to a fault, concerned to near patronising extent, all that stuff- and into the real world for idk ten mins every month before retreating back to ILX and thanking god its there at all

i enjoy my round the bar conversations but god i keep my mouth shut for a lot of it, not from fear so much as the sake of my ears. the weirdness of it is, these lads are usually comfortable in their skins and lives but convinced that some foreign communist of a sexually ambiguous persuasion is gonna snatch it all away at the first sign of weakness

actually i think what i fist noticed and what is most fun is its the same spittle-radge vehemence even when they're agreeing with you about some small beans roadworks
