having lots of followers would suck

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 21:09 (eleven years ago)

i just mean halfway between full follow and mute, like having a volume knob for everyone that corresponds to frequency or something

Muting retweets and hashtags has made the usability go way up. (Tweetbot does this, don't know about the regular twitter client)

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 21:37 (eleven years ago)

just let it wash over u imho

xyzzzz__, let us know yours schlump?

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 22:52 (eleven years ago)

followed you!, & i'm filmclubbristol, i am not useful on twitter, just #fyi

& i feel like a judiciously controlled feed is probably in some ways desirable but i don't mind the sprawl, i don't think, feel like the design is compatible with a kind of human scanning frequency learned from personal ads & telephone books, & that in some ways calibrating the frequency or visibility of somebody would just deny me the simple periodic pleasure of unfollowing, something that makes me feel like i'm truly exercising control in my life, being firm, putting a foot down. it's meant to be kind of messy, i think. neil hagery just got more successfully aphoristic on twitter but for a long time he was really into the messy transparent language angle, i don't mind twitter feeling like scanning a radio dial

tender is the late-night daypart (schlump), Tuesday, 31 March 2015 23:12 (eleven years ago)

It totally is radio dial.

Thanks, followed back - if you all want to know my struggles in watching the world upside down (otherwise known as yoga), random lines of poetry and novels I'm reading (that I then structure into my commentaries on my reading at ILB), live Columbo commentary (Saturdays at around 12pm GMT) and re-tweeting lines from that Finnegans Wake account.

Well, then I'm yer bot.

Twitter is no good when you are a broken misanthrope, even if they made a twitter for broken misanthropes it would be equally as worthless a pile of fucking dogshite.

Due to the Nakatomi Corporation's legacy of greed around the globe, they are about to be taught a lesson in the real use of Twitter.

I'd start a new account if I joined twitter, i think. I already have separate ones for different purposes.

Simon Amstells tweets are very, erm, informative

"hello xxxx people, thank you"

repeat.

Replacement of Discover (which was mostly people i don't follow tweeting about things that were broadly relevant to my interests) with "tailored" hashtag sidebar is so awful. Currently have three tags about Kate Middleton, two #makeamovie... trends, and tags about the Philippines netball team / domestic Indian real estate legislation. Essentially, unless the fairly limited number of people i follow are saying anything, it's not worth using the site at all.

Petite Lamela (ShariVari), Saturday, 2 May 2015 08:25 (eleven years ago)

Hardly ever explore hashtags...its mostly ever good for keeping up with people and events.

Following a couple of campaigners, that's a whole other story but I wonder how effective these things are. Which is no reason NOT to do them of course.

Personally you get to say things in bite-sized chunks which are good to expunge off your mind. Or you can be as banal as you like. Appreciate the space.

twitter is a complete dud. i wish it would disappear. like someone said in the g&m comments, it especially tends to attract shallow commentary and encourage short attention span

F♯ A♯ (∞), Friday, 22 May 2015 17:16 (eleven years ago)

But shallow commentary and short attention span are my specialties!

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Friday, 22 May 2015 17:46 (eleven years ago)

remember 20 years ago when people complained about "soundbites" ruining culture? yeah

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Friday, 22 May 2015 17:48 (eleven years ago)

100 people have chosen to follow my micro-posts about turds and pee, if that isn't great i don't know what is

ciderpress, Friday, 22 May 2015 18:05 (eleven years ago)

All I know is that thanks to Twitter, I can make whatever stupid jokes I want and Chuck D will see them.

DJP, Friday, 22 May 2015 18:14 (eleven years ago)

twitter is good

i'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but the point was that twitter forces this concept, unlike, for example, this message board, which has no character limit

F♯ A♯ (∞), Friday, 22 May 2015 18:28 (eleven years ago)

way too many characters around here tbh
