i basically assume everything she says/does at this pt is said/done to elicit some kind of dramatic reaction which is unfortunate bc i think it is a lazy approach to creating art and it devalues her work generally

saying this w the whole memoir controversy in mind.

head clowning instructor (art), Wednesday, 25 March 2015 16:40 (eleven years ago)

Not gonna approve of what she said, but isn't she also Jewish?

camp event (suzy), Wednesday, 25 March 2015 16:55 (eleven years ago)

Dunham has described herself as feeling "very culturally Jewish, although that's the biggest cliché for a Jewish woman to say”; her father is Protestant, and her mother is Jewish.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 16:56 (eleven years ago)

Really liked the finale, even the maudlin shit with Ray and Marnie, this show is solid pretty much any time it's not the Lena Dunham Hour as it turns out.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:17 (eleven years ago)

Lotta good moments in the finale, good balance of 'lol these ppl are awful' and emotional stuff that actually worked. Cut to 6 months later too abrupt.

Fave bit was Shosh saying "--in Japan!" and wiggling her chopsticks. Shosh wins this season overall.

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 9 April 2015 03:44 (eleven years ago)

Even with all my complaining, I'm still gonna watch. It's still sporadically very funny.

"TMI is such an outdated concept. There's no such thing as too much information. This is the information age!"

Episode 2 of this season was really interesting. The radical transparency/online exhibitionism Hannah champions feels like it is already outdated. People's online personae are so polished and cultivated now. Our discourse, too, doesn't feel freewheeling of anarchic, there is a real cost to saying the wrong thing. I think it was different around the end of the last decade. Not everywhere, but in the aggregate.

Treeship, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 16:23 (eleven years ago)

The Iowa students were sancimonious and annoying. Hannah is different: she is narcissistic and annoying. She has adopted some of their language and positions herself as an ally/activist and definitely believes in those causes but still, she is not one of them. It's not so much about actual positions as this insider/outsider thing, she signals all the time that she has these different values, finds pleasure in transgression rather than censure. I feel like Lena Dunham did a great job depicting these highly relevant antinomies in this episode

Treeship, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

Bristol on Lena

To save you the trouble, here's the most of the post...

Remember the liberal media outrage?
Oh that’s right. It didn’t happen. The liberal media darling Dunham was praised for her “honest and witty” book.
The double standards make me sick. Josh Duggar touched a sleeping girls breast – a terrible thing to go. But now their ENTIRE family is punished and their hit show is canceled? He’s labeled as a pedophile? His family is crucified!
Liberals in today’s media can do no wrong, while conservatives can do no right.

There's probably a better place for this, but this group interview with Dunham, Amy Shumer, Tracee Ellis-Ross, Gina Rodriguez, Ellie Kemper and Kate McKinnon is very interesting

Οὖτις, Friday, 5 June 2015 15:19 (eleven years ago)

she's having an amazing season right now but i don't wanna have this argument again

Remember the liberal media outrage?

I remember her being shredded on Twitter. Does that count?

12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer maybe the single greatest episode of TV this year

some dude, Friday, 5 June 2015 18:16 (eleven years ago)

not trying to be contrary, but i thought that was the worst episode of the season for her!

IMDB sez there's a season 5 coming next year.

Gotta cash in on Adam Driver being in Star Wars.

yeah I saw an ad for it it was obnoxious. much as I love that Becky Ann Baker and Peter Scolari are gettin work I have really soured on this show after the last season.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 3 November 2015 23:59 (ten years ago)

i soured on it after season 1 but for some reason i can't explain i watched the rest of it.

thought there was a few really good episodes last season (the coming out episode especially), while the season considered as a whole was p terrible

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 5 November 2015 19:24 (ten years ago)

the last episode seemed kinda like a series-ender with the leap forward and everything (which came off like a remarkably cheap narrative fix)

Οὖτις, Thursday, 5 November 2015 19:31 (ten years ago)

I did finally start S4. I found the writing workshop scenes false and hard to stomach, and there was something that really irritated me about the scene where *everyone unfairly criticizes Hannah* -- it seemed like narcissistic writing, on the part of Dunham, to me.

Like there's something about people who believe that the entire world gangs up on them for no reason -- usually (1) their perception is distorted and not everyone is really against them as much as they thing and (2) there is a reason

Elijah is consistently the funniest lately. but this show isn't particularly interested in comedy.

I like his character, he's very good at doing that thing where a person is obviously full of shit but kind of believes his own bullshit.

Just realized I was mixing up Elijah and Desi when I said this. Elijah is hilarious and knocks it out of the park consistently, and yeah pretty much is the only thing saving S4 for me so far.

I think they probably should be wrapping it up after this coming season if the last season was anything to go by.

Wonder if Kylo Ren's appearances will be curtailed considering his filming commitments to those Disney films + the fact that he broke up with Hannah. I hope not as he's my favourite thing about the show.

Cuombas (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 19:34 (ten years ago)

five seasons is almost always the correct number for any tv show, this has been proven time and time again.
