What an odd aimless grim boring season.

wtf I enjoyed the hell out of this season, it leaned hard on the funny, which it is good at

i liked the hannah/adam scene, and i thought this season was kinda patchy but ok

The series overall was mundane yet still unbelivable. I have no idea why I'm watching this.

I'm honestly more annoyed at the New Yorker for thinking it was worth printing than Dunham for writing it

Loved the last few episodes. Some corny business in the finale (cue miracle of childbirth, earnest montage music) but worth it to finally move the characters forward and make even Jessa sympathetic. They've driven the "these people are terrible" approach into the ground so I can forgive a little sentimentality. Favourite bit was the woman who offers Shosh the Tokyo job. Hai!

9. This is because he comes from a culture in which mothers focus every ounce of their attention on their offspring and don’t acknowledge their own need for independence as women. They are sucked dry by their children, who ultimately leave them as soon as they find suitable mates.

Like a genuinely dense and stupid person
i basically assume everything she says/does at this pt is said/done to elicit some kind of dramatic reaction which is unfortunate bc i think it is a lazy approach to creating art and it devalues her work generally

Dunham has described herself as feeling "very culturally Jewish, although that's the biggest cliché for a Jewish woman to say”; her father is Protestant, and her mother is Jewish.
― Οὖτις, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 16:56 (nine years ago) link
Really liked the finale, even the maudlin shit with Ray and Marnie, this show is solid pretty much any time it's not the Lena Dunham Hour as it turns out.
― Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 25 March 2015 17:17 (nine years ago) link
Lotta good moments in the finale, good balance of 'lol these ppl are awful' and emotional stuff that actually worked. Cut to 6 months later too abrupt.
Fave bit was Shosh saying "--in Japan!" and wiggling her chopsticks. Shosh wins this season overall.

"TMI is such an outdated concept. There's no such thing as too much information. This is the information age!"
Episode 2 of this season was really interesting. The radical transparency/online exhibitionism Hannah champions feels like it is already outdated. People's online personae are so polished and cultivated now. Our discourse, too, doesn't feel freewheeling of anarchic, there is a real cost to saying the wrong thing. I think it was different around the end of the last decade. Not everywhere, but in the aggregate.
― Treeship, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 16:23 (nine years ago) link
The Iowa students were sancimonious and annoying. Hannah is different: she is narcissistic and annoying. She has adopted some of their language and positions herself as an ally/activist and definitely believes in those causes but still, she is not one of them. It's not so much about actual positions as this insider/outsider thing, she signals all the time that she has these different values, finds pleasure in transgression rather than censure. I feel like Lena Dunham did a great job depicting these highly relevant antinomies in this episode
― Treeship, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 16:28 (nine years ago) link
Bristol on Lena
To save you the trouble, here's the most of the post...
Remember the liberal media outrage?Oh that’s right. It didn’t happen. The liberal media darling Dunham was praised for her “honest and witty” book. The double standards make me sick. Josh Duggar touched a sleeping girls breast – a terrible thing to go. But now their ENTIRE family is punished and their hit show is canceled? He’s labeled as a pedophile? His family is crucified!Liberals in today’s media can do no wrong, while conservatives can do no right.
