Perhaps inevitable. Perhaps?

Some costume spoilers there but right now I'm starting to think if I have an overall season favorite it might be a tossup between Max and Ginger. But that said...still very early days yet and honestly nobody is totally standing out for me yet as a definite winner. Whole lotta midrange.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 13 March 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

Rooting for Max because she's the hometown girl, but I really want her to blow the weird factor out waaaaay further (the same way I felt about Milk tbh).

Eric H., Friday, 13 March 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

Guess Willam really was ahead of his time

chilli, Friday, 13 March 2015 21:35 (eleven years ago)

In that he would've won any subsequent season, yeah.

Eric H., Friday, 13 March 2015 21:36 (eleven years ago)

Katya is still up there for me even after last week's episode. I think (hope) it was just an early mistep à la Raven and she will come back stronger and last until the top 3. She seems polished enough and funny enough to get there. Take me to the intersection of glamour and comedy!

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 14 March 2015 00:14 (eleven years ago)

Yeah Katya would be in for my top three too.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 March 2015 01:16 (eleven years ago)

Katya def a favorite. I thonk this season's snatch game could be a real hoot given how many comedy/performer queens there are this season

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 14 March 2015 01:48 (eleven years ago)

*think

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 14 March 2015 01:48 (eleven years ago)

Her tumblr is hilarious too: http://momsgoldteeth.tumblr.com/

LeRooLeRoo, Saturday, 14 March 2015 18:30 (eleven years ago)

Something else about Katya too -- like Alaska and Joslyn, she appears in the first season 3 episode (pre-competition) via clips from her audition tape:

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 March 2015 21:09 (eleven years ago)

Oh Detox too while I'm thinking of it, via the live casting call.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 March 2015 21:10 (eleven years ago)

And Chad too IIRC!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 March 2015 21:27 (eleven years ago)

just catching up, watched the first episode.

...why did max make fun of disabled people? the crutches? or old people? wtf? kick her the fuck off, she sucks

who is dankey kang (Karl Malone), Monday, 16 March 2015 02:53 (eleven years ago)

aaaand moby just showed up and made fun of homeless people within 3 seconds

ok

who is dankey kang (Karl Malone), Monday, 16 March 2015 03:22 (eleven years ago)

This season's Untucked is pretty radical!

Common Street Screwers (Leee), Monday, 16 March 2015 04:12 (eleven years ago)

It is, really.

And another queen down. Can't say I'll miss her.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 05:02 (eleven years ago)

yeah she never really lived up to her talk. was hoping for more from the lipsync battle but oh well

max is becoming a consistent favorite

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 05:31 (eleven years ago)

bearded runway was great, so great

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 05:41 (eleven years ago)

It was! Max winning made sense.

A friend just asked if this season seemed a little painful to watch. And I can't say I entirely disagree! There seems to have been a bit of a tone shift I still can't entirely put my finger on.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 17:44 (eleven years ago)

yeah it's strange

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 17:45 (eleven years ago)

Feels like the last season of The Golden Girls.

Eric H., Tuesday, 17 March 2015 17:46 (eleven years ago)

Now since you're going there -- I remember the show had been renewed through this season, but hadn't heard anything beyond that. I half wonder if this is all leading to this being...it?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 17:56 (eleven years ago)

IMO it always takes a couple of episodes to get really going and for me to get attached to the new queens. I think they put a lot of effort in making last week and this week's challenges entertaining and fun. Maybe our expectations are just really high.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 18:18 (eleven years ago)

Hahah that could be it. And they were fun!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 18:19 (eleven years ago)

I'm still adjusting to the new Untucked format though. I miss Ru's narration.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 18:28 (eleven years ago)

I kinda like the new untucked. feels less stagey, a little more natural where they just talk without ALL the edits & sipping and glancing etc

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 18:32 (eleven years ago)

also lol @ jaidynn telling pearl he's hot and that she "might need to ride your face later"

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 18:47 (eleven years ago)

I kind of loved that lol. I understand that it's more real, but I think the old Untucked made me laugh more. (x-post)

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 18:51 (eleven years ago)

Some thoughts about last night's episode:

- Max was a great team leader, so happy that she won. Still top 3 for me.
- The costumes for the main challenge were beautiful. I wonder if they were provided by the production or if they were the queen's own.
- Loved Mama Ru getting all Tyra Banks on team Kennedy's boring ass.
- Trixie's bearded runway looked fucking amazing.
- The lipsynch was limp as hell. I almost thought Ru would send both home.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 19:34 (eleven years ago)

yeah Kennedy can turn it the fuck out , but she was a total yawn! idk what the hell that was

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 19:50 (eleven years ago)

Max's MTQ video was so terrible, it completely undercut any expectations I had from her, but she's slowly turning me around. Her looks have been gorge, but improv (re: Snatch Game) might be a test for her. (But then the THEATRE background might come in handy.)

To expand on my nu-Untucked == radical comment, I love how it's breaking the fourth-wall right now, which is something that reality tv shows are anathema to. It's not just the stagehands and PAs we see on camera -- when they talk to the eliminated queens who are out of their drag and out of their personas, and given the nature of this show, it *feels* so naked. It's a remarkable technique they've hit on, and has a rather powerful, elegiac effect, IMO. Might not be sustainable, though...

I kinda liked the lip sync! Jasmine particularly, but I'm just a sucker for good dancing.

Common Street Screwers (Leee), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 21:08 (eleven years ago)

Love Ginger's unabashed shadiness.
Kennedy loves to talk, which means more dramas, which means I love her.
Hahah loving the bifurcation of the pretteez, Fame is the good pretty, Violet is the evil pretty.
Jaidynn turning out to be a lot of fun, i.e. quotable.

Common Street Screwers (Leee), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 21:15 (eleven years ago)

Does anyone notice how Max's absurd 1930's vocal affectations seem to drift in and out like even in the same sentence? It's as if she has to remind herself "oh yeah that's how I'm talking right now, whoops"

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 12:47 (eleven years ago)

totally! it's v strange

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 14:07 (eleven years ago)

Strange as it may sound, it's an Adore Delano equivalent. "I'm fierce! Wait not really. Wait I am!"

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 14:45 (eleven years ago)

I went back and rewatched Raja + Raven's Ruview from the first episode...those two are so good together, I fking love them.

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 19 March 2015 01:17 (eleven years ago)

And speaking of.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQMLYACVhO4

I refuse reticence on this one. Raja looks just plain hot here.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 March 2015 01:03 (eleven years ago)

And we have this too

http://blandcanyon.blogspot.com/2015/03/rupauls-drag-race-recap-season-7_19.html

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 March 2015 01:12 (eleven years ago)

can I just take a minute and say how much I love Jaidynn

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 20 March 2015 12:48 (eleven years ago)

she's growing on me

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 20 March 2015 14:14 (eleven years ago)

Raja and Raven look gorgeous. WTF at Raja booting Trixie and tooting Kennedy though? Those pubes!

Bland Canyon girl went crazy this week, so funny!

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 20 March 2015 14:57 (eleven years ago)

Jaidynn's a kick, more hilariously boisterous than world-wise maybe, and I'm not sure about her breakdown moment in this week's episode. But I can see her lasting for a while.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 March 2015 15:05 (eleven years ago)

Oh hey, we have some news!

http://www.thewrap.com/logo-tv-gives-rupauls-drag-race-early-season-8-renewal-exclusive/

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 March 2015 15:07 (eleven years ago)

The Season 8 premiere of “RPDR” was not only one of the reality competition’s most-watched, but it earned a nearly 20 percent increase in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic. Additionally, its second episode of the season saw a double-digit increase over the debut episode.

“Over 6 million people have watched the show in some way, shape or form across all of our platforms just this season alone, the three episodes that were in,” McCarthy pointed out. “The audience continues to build and the demand for it and the content is so great, why not take advantage of all that energy right now? World of Wonder is such an amazing partner to work with and Ru that we want to get out there while it’s hot and get casting for the next season.”

Well, guess that answers that question!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 March 2015 15:07 (eleven years ago)

Something about that blandcanyon blog kinda bugs me :/

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 20 March 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

It's fun...but it's not perfect. There have been some moments throughout where you can sense a lot of distance not necessarily being bridged.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 March 2015 16:40 (eleven years ago)

I think it's only intermittently funny, but once in a while http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s238/petstarr/Drag%20Race/Drag%20Race%207/jaidehrm.jpg
