Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 21:59 (eleven years ago)

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 4 March 2015 22:22 (eleven years ago)

i guess this is back now, does anybody still care?

Clay, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 05:28 (eleven years ago)

Considering the thread has been revived twice already this year, I'd say yes.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 06:20 (eleven years ago)

def watching first 2 tonight. I'd forgotten.

Team Foxcatcherwatcher (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 14:44 (eleven years ago)

What kind of promotion is Yahoo giving this? I haven't seen anything outside of this thread about the new season

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 16:35 (eleven years ago)

I haven't watched the episodes, but here are the direct links.
Episode 1 : https://screen.yahoo.com/community/ladders-070001899.html
Episode 2: https://screen.yahoo.com/community/lawnmower-maintenance-postnatal-care-070001912.html

…. wow – the power of words ! (Øystein), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 17:18 (eleven years ago)

i have a Sony box that allows me to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. shows on TV, so it bums me out that it doesn't have any Yahoo capability to pay this, but w/e, i'll watch Community on my laptop if i have to.

watched the first episode this morning and there were a few laugh out loud moments, as expected there were meta jokes about the cast changes but the gag about Shirley was hysterical.

some dude, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 20:01 (eleven years ago)

in same boat. will hdmi to a TV for communal viewing, however.

Team Foxcatcherwatcher (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)

The email montage was pretty funny.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 17 March 2015 22:36 (eleven years ago)

Despite the one bit of Shirley, she's sorely missed. :(

2nd ep better than the first, but even with my incredibly low expectations for this season I'm having a hard time enjoying it.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 23:12 (eleven years ago)

Also, re: the first episode, they must just assume anyone watching is already familiar with the show and isn't just coming in blind. Because none of that would make any sense at all to a first time viewer. I had a hard enough time with it as someone who's seen all five previous seasons.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 23:14 (eleven years ago)

I almost feel like Harmon is hard-trolling everyone who demanded a sixth season by giving them one.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 23:33 (eleven years ago)

marissa mayer should put herself in this show as a new castmember

iatee, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 02:13 (eleven years ago)

I definitely liked the first two eps (especially that Shirley cameo), but I think part of the love is that I already kinda love Paget and Keith so it's easy. And it doesn't feel quite as shaky as last year since they're not awkwardly dealing with Pierce and Glover leaving. Britta actually getting a decent story where she gets to do things! (also nice to see Lesley Ann Warren too)

Nhex, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 04:29 (eleven years ago)

yeah same here, Paget Brewster and Keith David are worthy additions.

some dude, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 12:14 (eleven years ago)

Can't wait for a full episode of "The Butcher & The Baker" tbqh.

AB de Villiers Terrace (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 12:55 (eleven years ago)

AND WHERE AND WHEN DID BRITTA LEAVE THAT LITTLE GREEN MACHINE

AB de Villiers Terrace (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 12:56 (eleven years ago)

First episode was great, second one was a bit hit and miss if only because the virtual reality storyline was lame. It felt like a very convoluted way to introduce a new character without actually giving him much to do.

I enjoyed the scenes with Britta's parents through, they were well-cast and I hope they reappear because there's comic mileage there.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 13:04 (eleven years ago)

yeah, second episode's interminable jeff and new lady watching dean flail around in VR scenes really made it drag. that said, both eps had plenty of laughs and they are hitting much better notes with chang and abed characterwise so I am fully on board with season 6!

erry red flag (f. hazel), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 16:13 (eleven years ago)

I hated the Chang hand-bitten running gag, they are basically just admitting they don't have a clue what to do with Ken Jeong at this point.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 16:16 (eleven years ago)

tbf they haven't known what to do with him since season 1. his "best" storyline was the Shirley pregnancy, i mean sheesh. the hand gag is probably in the "better" half of running Chang jokes. but i agree the takes on him and Abed are already better this year

that said "AND JESUS WEPT!" did make me laugh, damn you Dean

Nhex, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)

he was so good when he was the Spanish teacher, they need to get back to that. xpost jinx

erry red flag (f. hazel), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 16:19 (eleven years ago)

they are basically just admitting they don't have a clue what to do with Ken Jeong at this point.

Isn't this essentially everything after season 1?

ed.b, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 16:47 (eleven years ago)

kinda wishing these episodes were 22 minutes and not 27. that extra time gives room for stuff to sag.

Clay, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 19:09 (eleven years ago)

meant that we got the full trailer for Portuguese Gremlins however

AB de Villiers Terrace (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 20:23 (eleven years ago)

yup, those extra minutes mean we get that and The Butcher and The Baker, I say bring 'em on every episode

Nhex, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 20:23 (eleven years ago)

it is interesting that they made the episodes longer where afaik the Netflix and Amazon Prime sitcoms haven't. i guess there's no chance of the season 6 episodes getting plugged into Community's broadcast reruns on Comedy Central or w/e.

some dude, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 22:21 (eleven years ago)

interesting that they made the episodes longer where afaik the Netflix and Amazon Prime sitcoms haven't

episodes of Arrested Development S4 ranged between like 22 and 38 minutes

Probably not too many people stumbling across it by just leaving their computer on Yahoo Screen after The Nanny finishes.

oochie wally (clean version) (sic), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 22:53 (eleven years ago)

ah i hadn't watched the Netflix season of AD, i was going off of Kimmy Schmidt, Alpha House, Betas, etc.

some dude, Wednesday, 18 March 2015 23:23 (eleven years ago)

Come to Yahoo Screen to watch Community, stay to watch ... nothing? It doesn't seem like they have any other content.

the ad breaks for Community have a lot of commercials for the extremely unpromising-looking Sin City Saints, which premieres next week (along with, funnily, lots of Netflix ads for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)

some dude, Thursday, 19 March 2015 00:31 (eleven years ago)

in the secret bar there was a sign with 'do not serve this man' -- was that supposed to be someone?

mookieproof, Thursday, 19 March 2015 01:10 (eleven years ago)

looked maybe like younger Harmon with a moustache drawn on but I wasn't close to the screen

Al - Kimmy Schmidt was made for network; season 2 will be the tell for whether they get more flexible on running times. (Streaming shows are likely to stay similar to broadcast standard bcz they can be sold overseas still. Although AD S4 is airing here now on non-commercial FTA.)

Wasn't convinced until the scene in the ladders class, which killed me

DJP, Thursday, 19 March 2015 14:21 (eleven years ago)

that was fantastic

Nhex, Thursday, 19 March 2015 14:30 (eleven years ago)

what happened to buzz hickey

mookieproof, Thursday, 19 March 2015 15:15 (eleven years ago)

travelled back in time to the early '00s

Man, this Yahoo Screen ap suuuuuucks. everytime I paused the show it reverted back to the beginning.

Btw the Harmontown doc is on Netflix

Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Saturday, 21 March 2015 02:45 (eleven years ago)

the harmontown doc was what got me to stop listening to harmontown

Clay, Saturday, 21 March 2015 02:47 (eleven years ago)

Too into the cult of personality for me. I like his shows though, and don't fault him for making money. But I have watched every episode of Community and it is good, cleverly-written sometimes-meta pop tv. But not a life-changing work of art that I must delve into, or see a movie about the making of.

I can see it being appealing if you are working in the entertainment industry. Doesn't he talk a lot about his process? It seems like hard work, talking about how hard you are working all the time /jk

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 21 March 2015 03:35 (eleven years ago)

harmontown movie is a doc of when he took his podcast on the road, so it's mostly harmon being a sad alcoholic who is really mean to his friends and himself and occasionally hosting a show where he says cruel things to his then-girlfriend (now wife)

Clay, Saturday, 21 March 2015 03:45 (eleven years ago)

According to imdb he has written 9 episodes of tv in the past 5 years. I thought he wrote way more than 7 episodes of Community.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1363595/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 21 March 2015 03:53 (eleven years ago)

Oh why would you want to support that kind of behavior?

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 21 March 2015 03:53 (eleven years ago)

xp The way the sitcom "writer's room" set up is done these days, a team of writers works on every script, credit is distributed to the primary writer for that episode. The showrunner like Harmon typically writes/edits/contributes to every script on the show, credited or not.

Nhex, Saturday, 21 March 2015 03:58 (eleven years ago)

I think this more than likely has to do with Hollywood/union royalty structures

Nhex, Saturday, 21 March 2015 03:58 (eleven years ago)

I can see that.

Is it normal for them to credit non-showrunner writers as having written episodes? For instance Emily Cutler is credited for 5 Community episodes, including the first Paintball episode. That is 2 less than Dan Harmon. I tried finding out more from his 4-part season 2 AV Club interview but the only time he mentions Emily he doesn't talk about her as a writer but how bringing in women writers changed the atmosphere.
