Reddit announced a change to its privacy policy on Tuesday that prohibits posting nude photos or videos of people engaged in sex acts without their prior consent to have it posted. The policy shift will likely upset members of a number of Reddit communities, some of which use the site to trade illicit photos taken of others without their permission.

A friend of mine once said: You know what the problem is with being an economist? Everyone has an opinion about the economy. No body goes up to a geologist and says, 'Igneous rocks are fucking bullshit.'
― goole, Thursday, 26 February 2015 20:17 (eleven years ago)
true for a lot of the soft sciences
― Mordy, Thursday, 26 February 2015 20:19 (eleven years ago)
tbh most geologists were like "plate tectonics is fucking bullshit, you are crazy" to that guy for a long time

"you know what sucks about being an economist? no one walks up to an astronomer and says "the earth is the center of the universe, asshole"

the most toxic place IS surprising, since it's ShitRedditSays (not TheRedPill)

makes sense tho that a board set up specifically to make fun of the rest of the site might get a lil negative

does reddit provoke anxiety in ilxors because to most people what we do is essentially the same as what goes on over there?

is there a creep shots board on here im not aware of.
― ryan, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:23 (eleven years ago)
i guess i just don't understand why people are so concerned with what happens over there more so than like 4chan. it harbors mras and "creepshot"ers and seems like somewhere that should simply be avoided.
― primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:24 (eleven years ago)
its culture ppl are interested in it idk it has influence, how much more expressed as a % shd we be concerned with 4chan i will adjust the levels
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:26 (eleven years ago)
Let me know when Barack Obama does an AMA with 4chan.
― pplains, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:29 (eleven years ago)
i didn't know he did that
― primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:29 (eleven years ago)
i think i am just fatigued with the internet and maybe pop culture in general. that has nothing to do with reddit or ilx though. retract my "why do you care" style argument, which goes against all of what i thought were my beliefs
― primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:31 (eleven years ago)
reddit is super populist, 4chan's origin and purpose are much much more narrow
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:32 (eleven years ago)
i thought they were the same thing until relatively recently, or that one came from the other
― primal, intuitive, and relatively unmediated (Treeship), Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:33 (eleven years ago)
4chan originated as an english-language version of the japanese imageboard, a very specific type of message board common in japan for sharing art, manga, etc. it predates reddit by a couple years at least, & is still mostly populated by people interested in anime, manga, japanese cultural stuff etc
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:39 (eleven years ago)
theyre quite different! wld make an interesting case study re the contrasting designs/cultures
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:40 (eleven years ago)
like 4chan is designed to be ephemeral and chaotic/playful, reddit is designed to be permanent and surface the most popular/important stuff
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 24 March 2015 17:42 (eleven years ago)
