i guess i just don't understand why people are so concerned with what happens over there more so than like 4chan. it harbors mras and "creepshot"ers and seems like somewhere that should simply be avoided.

i think i am just fatigued with the internet and maybe pop culture in general. that has nothing to do with reddit or ilx though. retract my "why do you care" style argument, which goes against all of what i thought were my beliefs

reddit is super populist, 4chan's origin and purpose are much much more narrow

i thought they were the same thing until relatively recently, or that one came from the other

4chan originated as an english-language version of the japanese imageboard, a very specific type of message board common in japan for sharing art, manga, etc. it predates reddit by a couple years at least, & is still mostly populated by people interested in anime, manga, japanese cultural stuff etc

theyre quite different! wld make an interesting case study re the contrasting designs/cultures

like 4chan is designed to be ephemeral and chaotic/playful, reddit is designed to be permanent and surface the most popular/important stuff
