Confession: Costco had a ridiculous deal on Starbucks VIA Colombian instant packets, and I stocked up on them for rushed mornings, and honestly it's decent stuff.

Definitely by far best instant I've had.

Starbucks VIA is really good for instantly making me rush to the bathroom roughly five minutes after drinking. It's like an instant cleanse diet in a cup.

I drink Nescafe at home, but I'v always had a high tolerance for disgusting coffee.

Starbucks VIA is really good, but even when I drank caffeine, I could only use half a packet. A whole one would make me grind my teeth.

Also enough sugar and half and half turn a cup of Nescafe into a warm melted cup of coffee ice cream.

That's what I'm talking about--unfortunately I have to use almond milk so it's less creamy but yeah.

Can you do soy? Soy creamer is pretty decent.

Nope. Bloating for days.

I've hit the Aeropress and Moka Pot pretty hard for a couple of weeks, it's helped with the cutting down/quitting smoking to have a stimulant replacement. Every time I quit smoking before I'd have a massive energy drop in the early afternoon.

I checked my Paypal account after some auctions and found I had enough to get a real espresso machine - Crossland CC1 and Baratza Vario package from Seattle Coffee Gear. Psyched for this - between not spending $7.50/day on smokes and (theoretically) $2/double, it should be worth what I paid pretty quickly even with the cost of fresh coffee.

The only milk-like product I like is hemp milk - anyone tried that for cappuccinos?

Bonus of SCG is that they have a ton of videos on machines/technique and the main person in them reminds me of Jane Lynch. Plus the package I got was way cheaper than anything similar I could find (machine w/ temp control and espresso grinder).

imho milk in coffee is gross unless it's steamed. i think the milk sugar takes on a kind of sour quality next to the bitterness of the coffee. just like i don't like sugar in it either. the only dairy product allowed in coffee is heavy cream and ban fake "milks"

i was just scrolling up and reading about some of you and your caffeine problems and i just realized i drink way too much coffee in the morning :-/

At home I drink Lebanese coffee (Najjar) with coconut cream & (dairy) cream.

cream in coffee is probably my favourite addition to coffee. Steamed milk second.

I tried hemp milk once and it was AWFUL. It was all we had in the house. I had to make new coffee.

ya id rather just drink it black, which i dont mind at all tbh, than use in any of those other milks, no offense to any partisans of the other milks

Me, too. Alternamilks can get kind of grainy, or they are just too thin. Black with sugar is nice, too, though.

I always drink one cup in the morning but the afternoon cup can be kind of rough, the thought of all that black acid

That's why I've been thinking about getting an espresso machine

i drank a cup this afternoon cause i got mexican food and thought to myself hmm a cup of black coffee with this

I think a whole cup is just a lot of voluem to think about when the day is more than half over

i get espresso in my coffee (shot in the dark) most often these a.m.s

it can be surprisingly good but is usually caffeine juice tasting of coal. i like the russian roulette aspect though (guns, shots)

some "natural foods"/foodie types have been complaining on facebook about starbucks new "coconut milk" not really being coconut milk, but tbh they're probably just making another attempt to create a non-dairy "milk" that simulates the sweetness and texture of cow milk so nbd

Kind of a bd for me, I can't drink it bc it's thickened with guar gum.

Which is also why I can't have coconut milk ice cream.

I can't drink coffee since I got sick. like whiskey it tastes awful.

yeah, I think some of the thickeners/stabilizers are dealbreakers for a lot of people, but tbrr just putting plain old coconut milk in starbucks coffee wasn't going to happen. it's like a ever-losing game to find something that approximates dairy without having it contain yet another thing that non-dairy consumers can't have.

Coconut milk, at least the stuff at Trader Joe's makes me wildly nauseated. I have no idea why.

i got some stumptown tho usually i like to try whatever more obscure fancy coffee they have in there but today there was only stumptown which is great anyway, obvs id rather buy direct from a local roaster but none of those nearby

my grandma gave us a whole foods gift card for xmas so today i splurged on some fancy coffee (and halibut)

pro-tip: keep the halibut away from the coffee maker

a housemate once ground up various spices in my coffee grinder, coffee tasted rull wurd after that

yeah everyone says you positively cannot use coffee grinders for spices, you just can't, no amt of cleaning will fix it
