Wacky.. I didn't know that Hal Ashby worked on the original Thomas Crown (he was the editor)

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 04:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I noticed that too. Morbius kind of right about this movie, but it's still fun to watch out of corner of eye.

Samba,
Sugarloaf,
Jungle,
Piranha.

Don't you see? There's no way out.
You've done too good a job, Vicky.

Had some vodka and cokes with mates when they got back and set the world to rights via that magic of slagging off how shit the UK is nowadays. (Post-Thatcherite malaise, you know the score) So... wasn't a total wash out.

Bodrick III, Sunday, 30 March 2008 04:58 (sixteen years ago) link

OK, just put the WKCR country music festival back on.

Thomas Crown over with. Now watching Futurworld on Tivo and drinking beer

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:10 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh "Futureworld"

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd like a big delicious beer.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Hah... I haven't seen this in 20 years. I forgot that it was good old AIP that did this.

The IMDB keywords are brilliant:

Plus Peter Fonda!

getting more beer...

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Futureworld sounds a lot better than The Reivers.

Speaking of Peter Fonda, Chris, have you ever seen or heard the Bruce Langhorne soundtrack of The Hired Hand?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe I should start reading one of these books I got a hold of today- the new Ken Bruen or an old Domenic Stansberry featuring a baseball theme.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:25 (sixteen years ago) link

V. good album. Best in cold weather, tho (Coral Gables is a balmy 72 F).

Maybe you should accept some piecework from TapeStore, HOOS.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe I should read this other book I have here which is a crime story with a SoCal music backdrop, Beach Boys and Manson, Little Nancy Sinatra and Bobby Fuller, called The Dead Circus, by John Kaye.

Futureworld sounds a lot better than The Reivers.

The Reivers isn't that bad but I'd rather just read Faulkner.

Speaking of Peter Fonda, Chris, have you ever seen or heard the Bruce Langhorne soundtrack of The Hired Hand?

I've got a copy of it. Great stuff and the Jeweled Antler-plays-Paris-Texas comparison is pretty spot on.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:41 (sixteen years ago) link

The Star Chamber is on Fox Movie Channel in 45 minutes if anyone needs some conspiracy/paranoia.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 05:46 (sixteen years ago) link

All right, I went a found a Dos Equis. I always thought they should come out with a more macho version called Equis I Griega.

Some Latin American studies thing.

One, Two, Three has been playing on WNET all this time. Horst Buchholz was just awakened by an Uncle Sam cuckoo clock.

We're going to turn this crumb-bum into a perfect son-in-law, and we've got three hours to do it.

C.R. MacNamara: Cigarette? Cigar?
Peripetchikoff: Here, take one of these.
C.R. Macnamara: Thanks. Hm, 'Made in Havana'.
Peripetchikoff: We have trade agreement with Cuba. They send us cigars, we send them rockets.
C.R. Macnamara: Good thinking.
C.R. MacNamara: You know something? You guys got cheated. This is a pretty crummy cigar.
Peripetchikoff: Do not worry. We send them pretty crummy rockets.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 06:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Meanwhile, over in Futureworld (which doesn't really have a lot of Future in it) Peter Fonda just materialized three ineffective robot samurai

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 06:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Mrs. MacNamara: Maybe after sixteen years, every marriage gets a little stale, like a leftover glass of beer.
C.R. MacNamara: Look, Phyllis, can't we discuss this problem without bringing up a rival beverage?

The girl in the second is posed like Peter's sister in the credit sequence of Barbarella.

HOOS, I forget, are you at UT Austin or down in San Marcos?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 06:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Always surprised when Red Buttons shows up in this. And then does a Cagney imo!

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 06:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Yul Brynner finally showed up... In an amazingly ridiculous dream sequence

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 06:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Now the robot Peter Fonda is chasing the real Peter Fonda

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 06:44 (sixteen years ago) link

That's hilarious. The thing about Yul Brynner. And the other thing too.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 06:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Closing scene: real Peter Fonda and Blythe Danner pass themselves off as the robot versions of themselves - successfully talking their way past the Evil Scientist at the airport terminal. Just as they're about to step onto the shuttle to take them away from the *Worlds, the robot Danner (who we thought was killed earlier) shows up - muttering "they're the real ones!" Alarmed, E.S. looks down the hallway to the gates where the real P.F. is looking back. Fonda then flips off E.S. with the most spirited, widescreen, and intent flipping of the bird before running into the airplane. Disgruntled E.S. can do nothing more than pound his fists on the balcony.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 30 March 2008 07:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Did it switch to widescreen because the credits were coming like in old days, or was it widescreen all along?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Sunday, 30 March 2008 07:20 (sixteen years ago) link

It was widescreen all the way through
