the new FX show he co-stars in, Man Seeking Woman, is full on terrible

sadly agree; it could be okay if they could commit to the premise and quit milking three gags per episode like making his blind date a FOR REAL troll is actually a clever and original idea that can sustain six minutes of schtick
― Sounds like a forks display name (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 24 January 2015 05:48 (nine years ago) link
yeah, like every time they reveal a new premise, it falls flat, and then they just run it into the ground forever

I kinda like man seeking woman tbh, each ep (I've seen three) has at least one very funny sequence, which is more than I can say for the vast majority of new comedies
― Simon H., Saturday, 24 January 2015 07:00 (nine years ago) link
i was prepared to see him smash shit for 10 minutes like last year's season finale, or 1 idea that would consume the entire episode. the monologue and the argument with hannibal was a little longer than usual, so i think they were fucking with any similar minded viewers to give the impression just for a moment that the monologue would last for 10 minutes. and then bird up happened.

my friend interviewed E.A.
Do you think “homophobic” jokes in the 1980s are different than ones that might be perceived so today? What’s changed?
EA: All motivation is defined by intention. If the intention is to hurt, divide, or belittle, it’s wrong; if it’s an attempt to cope with or make sense of tragedy, it’s something different. If it’s commenting on society’s flaws, versus adding to society’s flaws, I think the audience can tell.
With that said, I do think homophobia in the ’80s was more rampant and socially acceptable, like with Sam Kinison or Andrew Dice Clay. Those guys are fucking bigots. Sam Kinison was a sexist homophobic piece of shit and I’m glad he is dead. I want to jerk off on his tombstone.

A lot of photos of Eric Andre remind me oddly of Chris Morris when he's smiling or making a face.

this is a most excellent interview, first time I've ever seen nard answer an interviewee's question (about his hat)

I mean maybe he wasn't so into it but he certainly wasn't so not into it, he just had things to do and let's be honest nard is somewhat annoying
― del griffith, Friday, 2 September 2016 05:41 (seven years ago) link
I mean he got a Terri Schiavo reference in there, what more do you realistically want from the guy to demonstrate his not being not into it?
great interview, no way the Sleater-Kinney gang was as fun about asking about the hat
― del griffith, Friday, 2 September 2016 05:45 (seven years ago) link
i dunno man, he got aggro to a weird nearly mentally unwell level, i guess what i wanted was his maybe not feeling the need to take over the interview? that may be asking too much.dude has references for days tho
― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Friday, 2 September 2016 05:50 (seven years ago) link
on the plus side this has me watching a bunch of new narduar interviews. who needed sleep! Not me!
― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Friday, 2 September 2016 06:10 (seven years ago) link
I try not to harshly judge anyone who isn't an outright asshole to Nardwuar. The inability to prepare and compose oneself for his assault has to be trying. With that as the baseline, the people who are cool and roll with it seem like the most amazing people ever (Hannibal's was predictably super-chill).
― Our Meals Are Hot And Fresh! (Old Lunch), Friday, 2 September 2016 12:51 (seven years ago) link
I think it was just contrasting levels of weirdness, Andre's anarchy vs. Nardwuar's preternatural composure. Andre is all about getting a rise, Nardwuar is all about monomaniacal single gear consistency. Has Nardwuar ever broken character?
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 September 2016 13:19 (seven years ago) link
This one's similar to his Fred Armisen video – also really not into it, but also probably using his brief non-performing time before going in public to do an interview he didn't expect would be exhausting. But Andre and Armisen are also alpha exhausters themselves. I imagine a Narduwar / Zach Galifanakis interview would go the same way.

Eric is doing "standup" at Caroline's as part of the NY Comedy Festival but tickets are $50 + fees apiece! Is this something I _must_ do or what's going on here?
― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:30 (seven years ago) link
When Eric starts humping or trying to kiss guests is everybody in on it? I hope so. I know the general idea is to surprise unaware guests but I don't see how he could get away with physically harrassing guests like that.
Anyway I'm new to the show and I like it but it's unpleasant to think about the stuff that looks like sexual harassment. Same with Billy On The Streets.
