tumblr. i'm the right demographic for it (sjw wahey) if a little old, but heck, michael stipe is in his fifties and has a tumblr of arty schlongs. i just, i dunno. maybe i have too much social media in my life already, but i never check out tumblr on my own -- it has to be someone pointing me to a link.

Didn't previously know about Stipe's tumblr, just been looking at it for a while.

I think tumblr is amazing in some ways but there's quite a few major annoyances.

I joined it for maybe 20 minutes and couldn't stand the way to browse all the posts you subscribe to. You just scroll up and down all the content in chronological order until your page crashes. I didn't see any options to change this way of browsing.
I really wished they used the deviantart system of checking off posts that you've read and being able to save some posts for later because some are going to require much more of your time. And I can't really give my full attention to political posts in amongst all the porn in the stream too, I'd like to separate that stuff for different times.

Even on tumblr sites I like there's just way too much and I wish more people be be more selective about what they posted or reblogged. Sometimes you have to wade through so much.

People quote a lot of impressive statements from writers and artists but something seems a bit off to me about all these little clippings of people saying cool stuff you agree with. I can't quite say what.

A lot of the piracy that goes on is quite hard to fight too, since so much content is shared so quickly amongst so many.

It's a pain in the ass visiting all the sites individually but I found joining the site even worse.

I always think of an SJW admonishing The Rolling Stones for playing black music and being told to play some music relevant to their culture and Mick Jagger ending up singing "When I'm Cleaning Windows".

on every music message board ever:

OP: the Beatles' White Album would actually be a perfect album if you trimmed the filler and edited it down to a single LP. what would be your 'ideal' tracklist? here's mine: [...]

rebuttal: b-b-but the White Album wouldn't be the White Album without all those so-called 'filler' tracks!

Coming up with the most awful version of the white album would be more fun. Probably been done, probably not as often.

there has to be a Beatles bootleg called The Shite Album out there somewhere (probably consisting of outtakes + studio chatter + the most embarrassing cuts from former Beatles' solo albums)

Every week the magazines displayed at the checkout line at my local supermarket are filled with ALL NEW heartwarming stories or shocking news about various A-list and B-list celebrities, surefire weight loss tips, quizzes that reveal secrets about you, photos of cute pets, alien visitations, etc. and I don't care about any of it.

Aimless, Thursday, 29 January 2015 18:55 (eleven years ago)

Last time I was in a supermarket, I felt an overwhelming urge to set those magazines on fire. I think I care about them too much.

ALL NEW heartwarming stories or shocking news about various A-list and B-list celebrities

I never read these, but I do glance at the covers sometimes and I always find it funny when two magazines, in the same week, will publish diametrically opposed stories about the same celebrity. "IT'S TRUE LOVE: Famous Person's Secret Wedding Plans!" vs. "IT'S OVER: Same Famous Person's Shocking Breakup!"
