yeah, I can't believe I still have an hour and 20 minutes here. I just want to go home and listen to music and play SimCity 2000 and not think about anything anymore.
― kenan, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:42 (sixteen years ago) link
i should have toby take nick to the gig instead of me, and then we could go to the DJ thing, which i suspect i'd like more.
― colette, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:42 (sixteen years ago) link
I go through phases with SimCity 2000, and I have off and on since it came out in 1995. I'll forget about it for months and months, then obsessive build cities for weeks and weeks. Rinse, repeat.
― kenan, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:43 (sixteen years ago) link
i think i went through a period where i was addicted to simcity 2000 in like 1998 or so, on a trip to san diego where i got sick and had to hang out in the hotel a lot.

we're going here tonight http://www.californiaclipper.com/ "Chicago’s only bar with grape soda on the gun"
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link
sarah, have you been to this crafts fair thingy that's tomorrow? is it fun? i kind of want to go, but also want to go to the wine fest that's in old town AND we need to hit the farmers markets. i wonder if all three is too much for one afternoon.
― colette, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link
I cheat. I need all the money in the world so I can build anything I want. I enjoy planning neighborhoods and urban centers and parks and public transportation... I don't want to have to manage money, too.
― kenan, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link
xxp OK SURE TONIGHT YOU WILL GO TO THE WEST SIDE
― dan m, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:47 (sixteen years ago) link
I love the Clipper.
― horseshoe, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:47 (sixteen years ago) link
The guy who invited us said you can get off at California Blue line, but you'd have to walk since there are NO CABS AROUND HERE.
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:48 (sixteen years ago) link
here comes courtney
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link
There are no cabs anywhere in Logan Square. It's weird.
― kenan, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link
Colette - Yes, I've been a couple times at least or maybe I'm just confusing a few different craft fairs... but I've definitely been to this one when it was in the park. It is fun, especially at first, though in the end many people are making the exact same things (ie: yet another stall with homemade pocket mirrors or weird dolls in the same style). It's worth going I'd say over all. I'm a little worried though that it's all on the sidewalk this year, since it took up a large part of wicker park last year, but we'll see...

Is that neighborhood actually DANGEROUS? I am a little wary of walking places these days b/c of all the shootings in my hood. It's got me on edge. And I hear that the Clipper is in a scary area.
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:51 (sixteen years ago) link
I still want to know who takes a cab to and away from a shooting.
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link
I got shot down by the Clipper one time.
― dan m, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link
You know... down there.
― dan m, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:55 (sixteen years ago) link
bang bang / the clipper shot me down
― kenan, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:55 (sixteen years ago) link
Wouldn't it be a pretty long walk from the California blue line stop to the California Clipper? Like, several miles?
― n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:55 (sixteen years ago) link
nick otm -- it's almost like walking from Fullerton to Chicago. And yes, some of that walk will not be in the finest neighborhood.
― kenan, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:58 (sixteen years ago) link
California Blue line stop is at 2300 N. California, California Clipper is at 1002 N. California, so have fun walking 13 blocks.
― n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:58 (sixteen years ago) link
Is there a California bus? You could hop on that maybe.
― n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link
Ha ha I guess Jesse's gone now since he just posted that Courtney was there. Should I call and warn him?
The Clipper, you'll recall, is where me and Kenan first met Nick and Sarah.

Oh I recall. I like that place.
― n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:01 (sixteen years ago) link
1000 N. California is squarely in Humboldt Park. Looks like about a mile and a half walk from the Blue Line. I wouldn't be worried about walking there, though I might not walk back late at night. The HP always has people out and about and California is a fairly well-traveled street.
― sisut, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:02 (sixteen years ago) link
There is a California bus, but it hops back and forth between Cali and Kedzie. Dunno if it goes by the bar.
― dan m, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:02 (sixteen years ago) link
No, i'm here. i meant here comes courtney, lurking on the thread.
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:02 (sixteen years ago) link
nick's on the phone with me.
he says hi.
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:03 (sixteen years ago) link
he's asking if i'm typing that we're on the phone.

Nick said, "OH NOEZ PUERTO RICANS!!!"
― Jesse, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:06 (sixteen years ago) link
What are we saving Jesse from? 13 blocks of walking?
― sisut, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:06 (sixteen years ago) link
I also got drizzunk with Kenan and Renee there about a year and a half ago. And Hstencil was among a group of us that watched Bosco + Jorge play there in February 2002. I've only been there a handful of times, but most of them have been memorable.
― jaymc, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:06 (sixteen years ago) link
I had an Abita for the first time there.

Puerto Rico . . . You ugly island . . . Island of tropic diseases. Always the hurricanes blowing, Always the population growing . . . And the money owing, And the babies crying, And the bullets flying. I like the CITY CHICAGO Smoke on your pipe and put that in!

nick (or anyone), do you have any idea about the timing for the gig tonight? i think doors are at 9 and there's 4 bands, 2 of which toby wants to see. he tried to call to get stage times, to no avail...
― colette, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:09 (sixteen years ago) link
It'll probably be pretty close to on time, Empty Bottle is good at running on schedule, give or take 15 or 20 minutes.
― n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:11 (sixteen years ago) link
That walk seems a lot longer than 1.5 miles in my mind.
Well, I mean, it won't start 20 minutes early. That would be dumb.
― n/a, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link
but if he wants to see the last 2 bands and we're not fussed about the first two, what time should we get there?
― colette, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:13 (sixteen years ago) link
NICKKKK, WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DO TONIGHT!??!?!
― KitCat, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:13 (sixteen years ago) link
10:30ish to be safe? Might sell out though...

I would have totally gone to OM tonight, but I didn't know about it. Now I don't have shoes on.
― Jeff, Saturday, 15 September 2007 02:23 (sixteen years ago) link
Reading an entire day's worth of Chicago posts at the end of the day is very interesting. It's like a really bad book, that I bought instead of getting it out of the library. So I feel compelled to continue reading.
