Do you use WhatsApp? FB extracts the data from your WA contact list. And if it's not from your WA, it can even be from someone of your contacts usinbg WA, that has you as a contact in WA and has added your date of birth to their 'info about BananamanBegins'. For your contacts it's simply a reminder of what you birthday is (could be synched with the calendar), for FB it's enough for to put two and two together.

How are you supposed to feel when old friends post photos of themselves whooping it up on New Year's Eve in the city where you now live, and they know you do, but they haven't gotten in touch with you to tell you they're visiting?

Whenever I see my friends whooping it up at a party I wasn't invited to I figure it's someone else's party, and I shouldn't expect my friend to wangle an invite for me (especially if it's at someone's house). As for not getting in touch at all, maybe they have so little time where you are that they couldn't fit anything in.

It's been a feature for as long as there's been an edit function!

I had never known about that. I've totally posted, for example, a red-faced political rant that I've gone back a minute later and edited into something less likely to upset my aunts and uncles or whatever. Did not realize that they have the opportunity to view that anyway. I mean, they probably don't realize it either, but this is good info to know.

its usually just fixing typos but occasionally you spot someone editing a joke to a funnier joke they thought of after they first posted

Think you can hide post edit history but most people don't bother.

I often hide jokes in the edit history for people like me who check it

Go ahead and see how many messages in your chats have locations attached. I’m guessing it’s a lot of them. And if this isn't already starting to get a bit weird, the first thing I noticed when I started to write my code was that the latitude and longitude coordinates of the message locations have more than 5 decimal places of precision, making it possible to pinpoint the sender’s location to less than a meter.

Status updates have locations too if you dont disable it.

Fucking feed has reset to "top stories" EVERY SINGLE DAY for about a week now and I keep having to switch it back. FUCK. ING. STOP.
