charting the "fall off" of site that's existed for like seven months is the type of obsessive tv-recapper generation overanalyzation that clickhole would make fun of

Whiney is OTM, the rise of social internet has revealed that most people think it's glamorous as fuck to be the party guest with an opinion about which episode of the Brady Bunch was the one where the seams started to show

I didn't really get the joke of this one (and it genuinely made me a little sad!):

― Your Ribs are My Ladder, Thursday, 8 January 2015 18:31 (eleven years ago)
they are all dead. i think that's the joke.
― scott seward, Thursday, 8 January 2015 18:36 (eleven years ago)
the onion has always had a fair volume pieces that don't quite hit a target but are generally in the area of one and that will have to do. in this case: celebrity fixation + celebrities are people too + ???? + death is sad = satire
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 8 January 2015 18:44 (eleven years ago)
o god that teens one is dark
― celfie tucker 48 (s.clover), Thursday, 8 January 2015 18:46 (eleven years ago)
its a pretty straight up juxtaposition of not just death but dark depressing death with celeb-media celebration of youth and potential. the execution is like some minimalist composition, melody not in the notes themselves but in the hidden notes hovering between the overtones of the notes you hear.
― celfie tucker 48 (s.clover), Thursday, 8 January 2015 18:48 (eleven years ago)
it also kinda feels like they're pushing a "generate article" button and it randomly rolled 7 celebs-as-teens pictures where they're all dead -- especially the hyper-generic last comment... "Just goes to show you: The grass is always greener. Amazing!" (i assume this is generic?)
dark as fuck for sure
― Francis Björk Morgan (Will M.), Thursday, 8 January 2015 18:53 (eleven years ago)

― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 8 January 2015 19:01 (eleven years ago)
is that actually yr take crut - people are "smoothing over" these things by calling them "dark"? what's their purported motivation for smoothing them over?
― The Complainte of Ray Tabano, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:05 (eleven years ago)
it's just something i see happen a lot: the onion posts something legitimately fucked up, and people go "oooh, that's some dark humor there!"
― example (crüt), Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)
...ok? this seems like a genuinely darkly comic piece about how celebrity discourse is kinda dehumanizing and gross
― The Complainte of Ray Tabano, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:12 (eleven years ago)
it's a things that make you go hmmmm... moment.
― scott seward, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:14 (eleven years ago)
isn't one of the defining characteristics of "dark humor" being really fucked up?
― Let me help you out Charlie XCX fan (DJP), Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:16 (eleven years ago)
Yeah when something is offensive/fucked up it doesn't mean that was the only intention behind it.
― Evan, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:17 (eleven years ago)
may favorite onion things have been the ones that are dark beyond belief -- porkin across america most of all i think

― Doctor Casino, Thursday, 8 January 2015 20:44 (eleven years ago)
"this seems like a genuinely darkly comic piece about how celebrity discourse is kinda dehumanizing and gross"
people are kinda dehumanizing and gross. obviously celebrities are under a microscope more. but the clickhole thing to me is just about the banality of everything and how petty everyone is and what's the point and we make fun of people's hair and then they die. more sad than dark. or nihilistic? what's the thing called where nothing really matters and people are petty and then you die? the nails had a song about it. christianity? not the nails, the fools!
