I've heard Jenny Slate interviewed a bunch of times and always liked her, but after hearing her WTF I'm thinking things like, "oh yeah, your life is so awesome that you need to escape it by smoking out 24/7."
i enjoyed this one (first one i've listened to in a minute) but had the same thought for sure.
hmmm. will this be more or less uncomfortable than jeff garlin interviewing any woman ever?
ha :/
looking forward to Adam Goldberg because i kinda love Adam Goldberg.

(You guys make me feel like a freak for being annoyed by Goldberg. Turns out that hearing him talk is far preferable to watching him talk, for me anyway.)
The Melissa Etheridge one today is also really good, something special happens (usually) when Maron throws down with people his age.

Maron really oversold the emotional tug of this interview in his intro. I appreciate the things M.E. has been through, but this was really just a good chat.

stillborn baby gutted me. i have been following him on instagram for a long time, and he had posted about a crib or something around when the baby was due i think?...and then he was radio silence for a few months, i figured just bcz of having a kid, never thought anymore of itso fucking sad & awfulhopeful for his new little one, but god how scary a second time around

Oh man, I bet. Nash seems tailor-made to irritate Maron. He irritates me, tbh.

In the end they find some common ground, but it's rocky going at times.
― RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 29 December 2014 14:03 (nine years ago) link
Man. I kind of want Maron and Nash to do a quarterly podcast together. They're both sort of sociopathic to each other, but they also have the courage to call each other out about their personality defects.
It was kind of telling when Nash was talking about his father's need to always redirect the topic of conversation towards himself and his problems (and how they were just as bad or worse) and Maron butting in to talk about himself and how his father did the same thing (to just as bad a degree... or worse).

I'd forgotten how much I kinda hated "Magnolia," but wonder if I'd feel differently about it if I returned to it now.
― RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 5 January 2015 13:51 (nine years ago) link
This interview with the Playboy interviewer guy was like Maron's version of that TPM article where all of the writer's questions were a variation of "Why didn't Iggy Azalea give Charli XCX a shout-out on "Fancy"?"

I just got to the little diversion at the end where they tacked on a talk about records. It's basically the same convo Marc has had with 50 other people, but I love the jubilation he experiences when he encounters another people who listens to the same things he likes.

― pelvic slang (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 8 January 2015 22:38 (nine years ago) link
The key to my continuing enjoyment of Linklater's films is to ignore him as a person. He used to pimp Alex Jones bullshit and was passing out 9/11 Truther docs on the set of one of his movies.

i thought maron and pt anderson brought out something like the worst -- most pretentious and preening -- in one another. reminded me that although i admire some of his movies (or at least aspects of them), i still think anderson is fundamentally pretentious and shallow.

the drivers license story is great, though he didn't tell it very well.
I hope Marc was smart enough to grease the wheel of possibly getting Conway in for an episode.

Really enjoying the Andrea Martin one, even though I'm not sure I know who she is exactly. When Marc talks to women his age or older it's invariably great.

been catching up on a backlog of these recently. i had to give up on the melanie lynskey ep about 30 minutes in because mark's awkward flirting and insistence on getting her to agree that she was codependent was making me feel kinda queasy.

― virtuoso thigh slapper (Jordan), Tuesday, 27 January 2015 15:40 (nine years ago) link
Yeah, I liked the Schwartzman one. He came across as way more likable than I thought he would be. Considering the family he grew up in, he seems really grounded too.

Cameron Esposito is great and funny, but I feel like she's turned into the comedy podcast community's resident "ask a lesbian" guest and this Maron interview is no different.

turned into or wilfully positioned herself as?
― oochie wally (clean version) (sic), Monday, 9 February 2015 21:24 (nine years ago) link
I think that's a fair criticism, but about halfway through her interview with Marc, she makes some comments to the effect of "I can only imagine if when I were coming out, there were people like me saying the things I'm saying about being a lesbian. It would have made things so much easier." She totally has a little bit of a cause in her art. Not an issue for me, but it is there. Marc attempts to back off the lesbian discussion a couple times, too.
I think she's pretty funny and quite intelligent and insightful.
