I really shouldn't read this site at work.

6. Modern Family

Based on the British sitcom And Jeffrey Makes Eleven.

The Emmy-winning American sitcom can trace its origins back to the hallowed British comedy And Jeffrey Makes Eleven, a show about an unconventional family consisting of eight parents and three children. Every member of the family was 45 years old. The show ran for one episode, which was 23 seconds long. It is generally considered one of the greatest programs in the history of British television.

The show returned briefly for an hour-long Christmas special titled “And Eight More Jeffries Make Nineteen,” in which the eight parents all become pregnant via Immaculate Conception and give virgin births at the same time to eight grown men named Jeffrey. They are all 45 years old.

that one is great

don't see it as mocking uk series lengths so much as bores who go on about how the british model is CLEARLY SUPERIOR to american seasons (because some hallowed piece of shit only ran for 12 eps + oblig xmas spesh)

I was surprised to learn that these xmas specials actually air on xmas day. But I guess that's what makes them special and not just an xmas themed ep.

the first time I looked at this they had the harrison ford and jon hamm picures switched. I assumed it was on purpose, but I guess not since they fixed it. I think they should have just kept it.

also:

Steven Spielberg was attempting to shoot his first documentary, Jade Mysteries: Our Planet’s Jungles, when an unknown man carrying a whip ran on set, grabbing as many things as he could find and screaming, “These belong in a museum!” Spielberg saw something special, and spliced all his jungle footage together with the stranger’s screaming in order to transform Jade Mysteries into Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

seems crazy that Fawlty had no Xmas spesh.

fawlty is where the 12 eps meme originates but it is not a piece of shit it is a v good situation comedy but it would have been better if they'd made more eps but I guess they just weren't up to it

tl:dr, gukbar, morbis detrius (wins), Sunday, 14 December 2014 11:35 (eleven years ago)

sorry for OT

tl:dr, gukbar, morbis detrius (wins), Sunday, 14 December 2014 11:35 (eleven years ago)

the "12 eps and a christmas special" thing is just Gervais repeating over and over that what he does is the perfect way of doing things, and Americans listening to the narcissistic awareness-vortex

see the Talking Funny special where the four comics are talking about how long their sets are and how they work them up gradually in clubs in front of audiences and he's all "UGH how could you possibly go in front of people who won't think your jokes are good before you say them?" and Louis CK says "I do about an hour and a half" and Gervais goes "what??" and Rock says "I can go two hours if the crowd's good" and Gervais goes "are you mental?" and Seinfeld says "I guess I do about 70 minutes" and Gervais explodes "EXACTLY! Exactly! That's what I do, yes"

Gland Of Horses (sic), Sunday, 14 December 2014 11:50 (eleven years ago)

I can't watch those things, he's just unbearable. And doesn't know shit about comedy!

Sorry I'm preaching to the choir & shitting up thread I'll shut up

tl:dr, gukbar, morbis detrius (wins), Sunday, 14 December 2014 12:58 (eleven years ago)

im sure their must be some thread where u all can talk about how many episodes there are in a season of tv shows

A couple of the episodes aren't that great - they have their moments, but.

2. What Christmas mantra do you say over and over every day at sundown until you are dismissed?

“Follow the star, retrieve the baby. Follow the star, retrieve the baby.”
“The breath of Donner sustains me; I breathe it every day.”
“No Enemy shall prosper; my Christmas is too strong.”
“I’m a good little Christmas slut; I live in a good little Christmas hut.”

scott seward, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 16:27 (eleven years ago)

I like that the Christmas one doesn't just feel like an attempt to exactly replicate the Hannukah one's vibe, it sort of has its own Christmasy feel to it.

i think part of the whole raison d'etre of Clickhole is that they can go ahead and work any kind of advertisement or mention of sponsors into the site and it just kind of enhances the verisimilitude instead of detracting from it like it often does on The Onion.

some dude, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 03:39 (eleven years ago)

All those "Lesser sites" are real, even though they look like parodies also.

Mark G, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 07:10 (eleven years ago)

that's what i mean. the whole genre their parodying constantly looks like a self-parody, so they can make easy revenue off of filling the page with ads/links that make it look more 'real.'
