Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:02 (twenty years ago)

I saw Peter Riegert last Indian Summer when he showed me (and a few other people) his movie in Seattle.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

I saw Sawyer from Lost on Brewer Street last Friday. I also saw Albert Reynolds' (ex-Irish PM) wife in Tesco on Monday. Woo!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

I saw both Alan Rough and John Beattie outside my work the other day within half an hour of each other. Non-Scottish or non-sports fans, or any combination therewith, may not care. Neither, actually, did I.

I'd rather have seen Sawyer from Lost. Or even Lara, tbh.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 22:54 (twenty years ago)

I was certain that Elvis Costello was at Avalon for the New York Dolls/Optimo shenanigans, standing way up high above and behind the stage while the bass player for Hanoi Rocks and David Johanson and the rest of the original band plowed through their old numbers. My friend said it couldn't be him because he wasn't fat enough.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 23:13 (twenty years ago)

kirstie alley at the post office, pursued by paparazzi

gear (gear), Friday, 12 May 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

mickey rourke right now at the coffee house! he looks like he's in pain.

gear (gear), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:16 (twenty years ago)

Debbie Harry (I think!) crossing Bowery westwards a few days ago.

JW (ex machina), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Steve Urkel last Friday at a restaurant my friend was DJ'ing at in Santa Monica.

kickitcricket (kickitcricket), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:45 (twenty years ago)

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Monday, 15 May 2006 07:07 (twenty years ago)

AT our local petrol station, the girl who plays Tracy Barlow, filling up. Gave me a funny look for some reason. whatever. I wasn't after her autograph or shout at her for pretending to be preg in the show or owt.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 15 May 2006 07:20 (twenty years ago)

i saw the white guy from those cingular raising the bar commercials. the sort of schlubby balding one who is paried with the asian dude. the ones that were on during the ncaa tournament. he was at the bank depositing like dozens of checks. he looked really nervous.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 15 May 2006 07:24 (twenty years ago)

omg i saw PETER STRINGFELLOW on old compton street today after work! he is not as... leathery as you expect him to be. he looked very chipper. (nb this in NO WAY = hott.)

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 15 May 2006 21:30 (twenty years ago)

my friend S saw MIA outside top shop at oxford circus, the other day.

Enrique IX: The Mediator (Enrique), Friday, 19 May 2006 07:50 (twenty years ago)

He is too leathery. Had to go to a press screening of The People v Larry Flynt and THERE HE WAS in all his orangey glory. He was I believe still glowing when they shut off the lights for the film.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:07 (twenty years ago)

Jimmy Carr was in Bodeans last night - he looks like he has an invisible piece of poo on his top lip in real life too.

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:16 (twenty years ago)

that was what i'd've thought he'd be like suzy! like that other bloke, the antiques one whose name i've forgotten. but he wasn't *that* orange or *that* leathery. still ewwwwww though. and he is TINY, like about 3 feet tall.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I saw gold medalist speed skater Apollo Ohno walking down the street the other day. Very exciting.

jergins (jergins), Friday, 19 May 2006 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Oh No Apollo Ohno Oh No!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 19 May 2006 18:31 (twenty years ago)

In the last 2 days, Moss from the IT Crowd, James Lance from Teachers & The Book Group and Beth Orton from 'She Cries Your Name'.

Clubbed with Patsy Kensit last month. She is mondo petite and has seemingly lost 20 years.

Hal! Jordan! HAL! JORDAN! (Barima), Friday, 19 May 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Wayne Coyne in the Seattle airport, wearing a dingy suit jacket and laughing with some dudes. He was towing a loveable Barbie-pink vinyl suitcase that could've been from the set of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

The singer from Suprgrss in Oxford last wednesday with partner and child(ren) in tow, heading to the new Castle development for Krispy Kremes (probably).

Even when it's 'only' the singer from suprgrss (and don't get me wrong I like them amd think them acey, etc.) I still find myself staring at them like an idiot.

Also xpost - I was in a taxi behind Peter S' limo stuck in traffic near Kings X. He got out went and got a paper, went somewhere else to get a coffee and cooly stepped back into his car (which had moved about 100 yrds). I was strangley impressed. But, yes, very orange indeed, also strange coat with odd furlike trim.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Michael Richards at First Slice, a cafe connected to an art gallery/studio six blocks from my house.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 10 June 2006 23:11 (twenty years ago)

Tom Green, found sleeping under my bed (with a bottle of Jack Daniels and Scofield Reference Bible in hand) while I was vacuuming. I nearly mistook him for a dust bunny.

latebloomer's potater chip of the proletariat (latebloomer), Sunday, 11 June 2006 00:01 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
This is stretching the definition of the thread title somewhat but I did see the lead singer of Hot Chip walking down Church St. in Stoke Newington last night.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Gary Owens in a used book store in Burbank yesterday afternoon.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

did you hear him, tho?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

Kelly Osborne and three friends eating lunch at California Pizza Kitchen at the Beverly Center last Wednesday. She looked thin and adorable.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

I wonder how many people outside the four of us even know who Gary Owens is?

Ruud Haarvest (Ken L), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

Alan Sues?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

I got confused about Take That members when I read Gary Owens.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

Lately:

Beyonce, two tables over at a crappy restaurant on Lexington, talking to some industry-looking guys about film stuff. (Best line: "I said I would only do it if it was with Mark Wahlberg.")

Fiona Apple, looking appropriately disgruntled and walking down the east end of Central Park.

Embarrassing: this girl who did a bunch of softcore teeny web porn around the turn of the millennium, sitting next to me at the movies, looking cute.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

janeane garofolo, several times recently around 14th street. so tiny... like 5ft, size 2 tiny.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

also, sarah m. gellar in my friend's shop. very friendly and also very tiny (the 26" w jeans she tried were too big for her).

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

i saw val kilmer walking around downtown this morning. he was wearing a suit.

you're killing me, larry! (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

hopped on the elevator the other day greeted by Anne-Marie Johnson who instantly shot me a 'keep it moving buddy' glare(I know, the nerve...) but I couldn't help doing a double take before I turned around. She looks the same as ever, soooo skinny in person though. I work in a screen actors guild building so I see a lot of character/commercial actors I don't know the names of, the bigger stars probably send assistants to pick up their checks or whatever it is they do there

tremendoid (tremendoid), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

Gellar is one of those celebrities I actually hope I never encounter, because I'd have a lot of actress/character confusion and probably get all OMG BUFFY I LOVE YOU about it.

ILX Carly once saw Buffy's mom (aka Earnest Excedrin User) on the subway, and I have no idea how she managed not to do a bunch of creepy "hug me, I cried for days when you died" stuff.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

2 weeks ago: WILLARD SCOTT hustling into office building on Bway.

MC: "Yo Willard you gotta do something about this heat!"

WS: [100 watt shiteating grin]"Hey How Are Ya!"

MINDERS: [angry stare] inaudible

m coleman (lovebug starski), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

Nabisco, I am envious of your Tawnee Stone sighting.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

i haf just been in edinburgh for almost a week and thus have the following list for yr delectation:

dara o'brien in waverley station (this within 30 second of getting off the train)
will self walking up the road, looking v tanned and healthy
welsh bloke from coupling, in the assembly rooms toilet
les dennis watching richard herring (we nearly sat next to him!)
bloke who plays bradley's dad in eastenders hanging around pleasance dome with his mates
drummer from khazi cheese watching josie long
half the comedians IN THE WORLD in the pleasance courtyard last night (there was a radio 4 "28 shows in 28 minutes" show on, so most of them were doing a minute on that), also alan rickman.

will this do?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 August 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

I saw this guy who looked a ton like Michael Ian Black at a Go! Team show in NY last aprilish but I'm not sure it was actually him...

Goddamnit, I go to NYC all the time and I NEVER see famous people!!!

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Thursday, 17 August 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

Did you actually *see* Alan Rickman, or are you just believing me? I thought he had gone before you arrived.

You forgot about Tinker from Lovejoy! (though I think only Neil saw him)

(I am just miffed because I was going to revive this thread and Steve beat me to it)

Fred McAulay was apparently wandering around shaking hands with people and introducing himself with "hi I'm Fred McAulay, I have a show on Radio Scotland", which NO-ONE was impressed with, which is only right and fair.

I also saw a bloke who looked like George Clooney in the bar of what used to be the North British Hotel, but for some reason I decided not to go back and double-check. If I find out that he was at the Film Festival and I missed my opportunity to do something inappropriately silly like, erm, get his autograph/get my photo taken with him/convince him to marry me (ignoring husband for now, c'mon, it's George Clooney!), then I'll be very cross. I don't think it was him though. However, blokey in the bar of what used to be the North British Hotel, you're very goodlooking and you have a definite Clooney-esque air.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 17 August 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

I am envious of Nabisco's Beyonce sighting as I have a banal crush on her.

She and Jay-Z are taped up here at my desk.

Handmaiden of Hip Hop (Molly Jones), Thursday, 17 August 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

Carsmile in "economy of scale in edinburgh" shock! (ah)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 18 August 2006 07:01 (nineteen years ago)

i just saw vernon kaye, in a car rolling on great portman street. he was in a jag. he beeped and shouted something at someone. i think i made out the word 'bowman' -- which would make sense, being near broadcasting house. i couldn't see bowman, but i didn't look very hard.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

He was shouting, "Bow man, you are in the presence of showbiz royalty!"

Dadaismus (a rattly old puffin who remembers ILX in the days when...) (Dada), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

haha

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

Mischa Barton, but I suppose it qualifies more as a meeting than a sighting. She's cool.

Badrock Example (Barima), Friday, 18 August 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Triangulatin' bastard Bill Clinton walking around on the field during batting practice at Shea Stadium.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

saw parker posey the other night. also there (so i've been told): jimmy smits, peter dinklage, liev schreiber. i'd trade em all for a clinton sighting, though!

tehresa needs more out of this relationship than she's willing to put in (tehres, Wednesday, 23 August 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)
