i once had a really odd conversation with my mother about how much she hated Barbara Stanwyck. it was hilarious.
― Nhex, Friday, 5 December 2014 22:02 (eleven years ago)
Almost feel bad for your mom.
― Cutset Creator (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 5 December 2014 22:03 (eleven years ago)
But if you were to recount hilarious conversation it might cheer me up.
― Cutset Creator (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 5 December 2014 22:13 (eleven years ago)
I wish I could accurately relay it, but it wasn't so much the words as the pure, unexpected, primal disgust in her face when I mentioned how much I loved Stanwyck, as she simply muttered "I don't like her. I never did." It totally came out of nowhere.
― Nhex, Friday, 5 December 2014 22:34 (eleven years ago)
Some of these have been/probably will/not/ be on tcm, but mainly it's a big free stash---suppressed yet supposedly uncut Kubrick etc: http://www.openculture.com/freemoviesonline

― touch of a love-starved cobra (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 03:44 (eleven years ago)
^^The New Yorker DVD is VHS quality. The film is as serious as one can be with an extended fight scene between two guys in mouse suits inside its running time.
― Don A Henley And Get Over It (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 31 December 2014 04:26 (eleven years ago)
it might be resnais's strangest film, and that is /really/ saying something.

Arthur Penn's The Chase late tonight, for those of us who are curious as to why Robin Wood devoted a whole chapter to it in Hollywood From Vietnam to Reagan.

Wow, that Bitter Tea of General Yen... so racist, yet apparently it failed on release because people were shocked by the miscegenation aspect!? Still, I'm kind of amazed by that Fu Manchu vampire erotic dream sequence.
I missed the recent runs of Baby Face but fortunately it's on their On Demand service for a few more days
